Royal Pigeon Racing Association AGM Live Q&A on Proposals
Ian Evans recently re-drafted recommendations made by Hall Associates in their review of the structure of the RPRA in 2016. Since then membership has declined by an average of 6.7% per year. Now with fewer members than ever, the re-drafted recommendations have been submitted as a proposal by the East Midlands and Welsh regions to be voted on at the RPRA AGM in February.
As some regions are yet to officially vote on these proposals I have invited Ian to take part in a live Q&A session so members of the RPRA can further scrutinise the proposals, allowing them to make an informed decision on whether or not they would like to support, oppose or abstain. Questions in the chat are welcome!
A copy of the proposal can be downloaded and distributed using the link below

Pigeon Racing Interview: A Plan To Save The RPRA?
มุมมอง 6K3 หลายเดือนก่อน
It seems every fancier in the country has an opinion on how the RPRA should navigate the challenges facing the sport. Usually it's limited to voicing a few suggestions in the pub or during basketing. Some are forward thinking, some are not. Few offer such a dramatic change as those presented by former CEO of the Royal Pigeon Racing Association, Ian Evans. Here Ian answers questions about his re...

    Think got to give it a go and so long as we can learn and tweak things before they cause real problems then can't see how it can be any worse than people are saying it is now it could even be better least it would be out in the open to discuss.

    I’m new to the sport, I was a lecturer in animal care and we used pigeons in lots of different lessons. From husbandry, training, welfare, health and disease but as I had no idea about racing we didn’t race them. Why are colleges not competing in college pigeon clubs. This is a unique opportunity for learners to work with pigeons and enjoy the racing. I’m 41 years old and only had one season, I LOVE the sport but it is soooooo prehistoric and disorganised, it needs to be reborn and some younger blood and ideas implemented to survive, the old guys are incredible and so passionate but if this sport is to continue we need to bring it to 2025 and start using more technology and have a clear marketing strategy on growing number. I talk to so many people about this who now love the idea but the infrastructure only suits the older demographic. Please keep up the work Dan, we need you and so does pigeon racing

      The RPRA did have a project when it promoted pigeonnracing in schools. Within 2 years it had 6 schools competing in clubs. The council withdrew funding for the project.

    • @RoyLee-lk4zq
      @RoyLee-lk4zq 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @ that’s the problem with schools! You need to be targeting FE colleges as the loft would be an active curriculum tool for all sorts, this means the colleges would buy and support the cost of the loft and maintenance etc because it’s a resource for their curriculum. If they did set it up and colleges were then given the opportunity to race for free, supported by the rpra you would get students leaving and setting up lofts! I think as a newbie I’m getting used to it but pigeon racing is terribly marketed, if at all and it seems once tried and not achieved it’s a no go and never tried again. I think it’s so primitive and behind with the times, nobody will take it up. I’m happy to support where I can, I have a business that has a marketing department.

      @RoyLee-lk4zq hi Lee when I say the council withdrew funding I mean the RPRA board. The school loft project was built into the curriculum. Children and parents took up the sport from the projects. Further education establishments were next on the target groups.

    • @RoyLee-lk4zq
      @RoyLee-lk4zq 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @ so what hope is there for the sport with a group not supporting growth and development! I could help the rpra get in to ten colleges for the next full term in September! Sure locals will donate late breds for their upcoming old bird season. Just seems ridiculous! Time for change?

    Its a World wide thing , with any club or federation when you are dealing with Money ! You will always have the hard nosed ones that do not want to change anything despite any Logical explanations for a change. And members that simply do not vote or go to the AGMs but they expect actions. Unfortunately some of older ones running the clubs do not like change and are scared of the new technology available but it makes things so much easier. Though it does replace human Jobs!. But In the long run Tech is far more transparent than pen and pencil if done correctly. I have seen this happening in many Bird clubs and bird Federation in New Zealand. You have to upgrade to be more Efficient. Without changes you can not go forwards and Grow, it just stands still going no where. Thanks for reading my 2 cents worth lol. Great to hear you Dan and Ian. Always enjoy your you tube videos Dan very educational and fun too.

    When it come to the timer and the light it’s was always better for me to have my lights come on at midnight and go off at 0700. I lost eggs and babies before because I originally set the lights to come on at sundown and go off in the middle of the night. When the lights go off in the middle of the night sometimes the birds are off the nest and can’t get back and the eggs and babies freeze to death. The birds can naturally sit on the eggs at sundown. Just a suggestion so you don’t experience any losses.

    A quarter past the century and I just printed an ARPU membership application which had to be reformated to be fillable, put a $30 tellers check in it and mailed it. There is a huge generational gap right now because of the resistance to change and the lack of keeping up with the modern world/technology. Coolest hobby ever but the inconvenience at every turn within the governing body is killing it.

    Ok, I have only just joined the racing pigeon game, and when I say only, I’m yet to have a race…..but I am ready to get some young birds etc,,,in Jan,and do have some stock birds…. I’m not new to Pigeons, but the sport and politics are new to me, the racing club I have joined is very small and a very close group. The RPRA seems to be an odd set up, I have heard it called a business on more than one occasion, yet votes are needed to change how it works, despite it costing more money to run than its pulling in, that doesn’t work, it changes, or it goes under? You are right, people don’t want a say, they just expect it to work…..but again, if it aint coming in, it can’t go out, so there is only one outcome, if it doesn’t change??
