Went to chase some wb's and caught this at pincher creek on the crow sub.
CPKC stall #2 today or the saga of CPKC 8171
มุมมอง 4687 หลายเดือนก่อน
I really felt bad for the engineer and conductor on this train when I watched them double up twice while 2 eb empty's with 5 locos each cruised right by them. They stalled shortly after rebuilding their train and the video and audio speaks for itself. Shame on you CPKC!

First stall of the day and I only got it on it's second try but if you look close you will see the conductor on the front with a broom on the left rail.

CN leading a CPKC potash train through the frank slide
มุมมอง 2.9K7 หลายเดือนก่อน
We dont get many CN locos in CPKC territory and especially leading. Long video because it was a long train. This is the crow sub in southern Alberta Canada pulling a potash through Canada's deadliest rock slide the frank slide.

He came from lethbridge and was down to 4mph at burmis so cant believe he made the hill. Long video and I froze taking it.

CPKC double stacks through the frank slide

This is very rare on the crowsnest sub for stack trains to be seen. Last one was 2 years ago and he took down a powerline. Not to be outdone this one took out a couple lines.Feb.6 2024 frank slide southern Alberta Canada.

Trains getting stuck their has been happening since for ever. Seen it many times. Why can't they figure it out? Stewpid does stewpid.
isn’t frank slide the steepest grade in north america?
No far from it.
Hello demos
Damn, that’s a lot of weight being pulled
Cool BAR unit , far from it's old home. Nice video.
Thanks sharing the outstanding video with magnificent locomotives.Railfanning endeavors are prominent. Bliss
The extra power did it come from the crew change point at Crowsnest?
No,an eb was waiting at the siding and eb's are mainly empty so they gave the wb potash a loco.
@@demos9677 precision scheduled railroading. LOL
They seem to have lots of problems with they're Locos, good thing it's not -30
Never a dull moment on the crow sub.
151 vids,lots at -30C. Love me a good stall!
Teamwork!
That lead Loco was a DPU on the coal trains for to long, Keep the exc videos coming.
Busy day on the Crowsnest Sub.
Excellent video 💯
That opening shot was great. Cool mountain backdrop. Good video Demos 👍
I live at the base of that mountain.
@@demos9677That's pretty cool. A nice place to live.
200 car potash trains rarely stall with 2x2x1 power. I have only filmed one stall and thats because one engine dropped out.
Grain elevator, windmills and the rocky mountains and these 2 beautiful locomotives.
Nice video Excellent my friend
Nicely done sir
Just a side show! It was a not bad day so I have more trains from today coming.
The power is almost down on it's knees working that grade! I can smell the traction motors.
I get 1 a week here,go back to some of of my older vids to see the ones that did not make it.
These 200 car potash trains run 2x2x1 and i have only seen one stall out.
Talk about a workout!😮
Old outdated system

I have a Model Railway in my Basement. From where I sit I can control 2-3 Trains. With DCC Controls and remote Control Switches, I can switch Trains onto Siding Tracks and park Them waiting on other Trains to pass. With AI coming into the Picture, I can see all Humanity taken out of Trains like this.
Years ago for Christmas, I received an HO Scale Bridge and Tressle Set. After which I could only take up 1/2 the Train. I later found out that It had a 6% grade. The most the Canadian Pacific Railway after construction in 1886 had was a 4%
Nice video cool
Did the eb with the 5 locos say he couldn't spare 1
More or less yes! He was being sarcastic. lol Both eb's had 5 loco's
Where CP's operating philosophy of no more than 12 AC axles powered together makes no sense.
Cutting edge technology with the conductor up front with a broom sweeping the rail but whatever works right?
Excellent video fantástic Capture my friend Like 👍🏻 And Greeting 🙋🏻
I expect to see a loco catch fire here someday, due to severe overloading.
1 CN & 1 CPKC for leading locomotives 2 CPKC mid train DPU locomotives & 1 CPKC rear locomotive
The lines by my place are a little bit over 1%. I see 2 or 3 locomotives slug it out with 150 cars, and occasionally i see 225 cars with 4 locomotives working hard up the grade. The longest and heaviest trains I have seen were 250 cars with about I guess 30,000 tons on CPKC headed to the Lakehead at Thunder Bay, Ontario.
Wow! That sounds spectacular! I love the sound of the engines working hard.
Excellent video fantástic Capture my friend Like 👍🏻 And Greeting 🙋🏻
Anybody know the % grade here?
2.2%
I got dozens of stalls and rescues on my channel from here. They usually put just enough power on the trains here so if one is not up to 100% they stall like what happened here. Add some rain or snow and your gonna have a bad time. They cut the grade down in the 70's I think so they did not need pushers. The hill is still about 3 kilometers long with an s curve and track greasers so it is a hard pull untill they hit the BC border and then its all downhill.
Noisy unit.
Can you imagine a pure diesel train trying to pull this load up that grade?
least you could do is not have shaky cam sheesh!
Trains a mile away and zoomed in and a 45 mph wind so it's gonna shake even with a tripod.
Would this maybe be like a diversion from the transcontinental cause I know that that’s very uncommon…
The other lines were down. Last double stacks through here were 2 years ago and they took out powerlines just like this one did. lol!
I’ve always wondered, how steep is the frank slide? I’ve looked at it on google earth compared to places like the grande cache sub and the spiral tunnels and compared to those this looks like a 3% grade
a little over 2%
TrainmanSky Click on the "show elevation" radio button in the "ruler tool" of Google Earth. It's under the "path" tab. You'll see a nice pinkish display open at the bottom of "Google earth." It will show you the grade (visually, not as a number) after you've selected the "start" and "finish" points. I use it to see if there's terrain interfering between my 2-meter ham radio antenna and the station I'm trying to talk with. It's a handy feature.
I have done elevation shots with 2 separate gps units and it's approx 2.2% It used to be worse before they cut it down and pushers had to be used constantly.
how many cars?! Listen those engines
They're diesel-electric hybrids. Sounds the same as any other modern train.
CN loves this video😂
Awesome capture my friend Like 👍🏻 And Greeting 🙋🏻
With the derailment at Revelstoke, might this train be rerouted into the USA to reach Vancouver?
No,trading hours. it has been on this sub all week.
Nice! I also saw this train! Just didn’t post it yet.
Boy she is working hard, nice!
Potash guys get the good locomotives.
Sweet cacth 😎
Nicely done sir
This is very cool! You won’t usually see them here because they are only on the main! So this is very rare!
Great video! He was detoured because of avalanches in Roger's Pass ? That ace sounds good pushing on the tail end.
A derailment I think. They rarely come through here and he took out a bunch of powerlines.
Those GE's are just howling as they pull that tonnage up the grade. Excellent video 👍
