Purlwise Knitting Podcast - Episode 2: Azor Sweater, Nutiden yarn, Marit Cardigan, and more!
super cute skirt, I need to find that, I'm bored with the knit fabric skirts I keep making.
Goodness, I should have just waited til the end. EVERYTHING you've made (knit and sewn) that you showed is stunning on you. You look fantastic. I love that brown sweater at the end, lovely, I'd wear the hell out of that in Minnesota. I may look for that. I too have mystery yarn that I've been searching for a cabled pattern to use it on. Though my heart is set on a cabled cardigan, because I need more cardigans....
I think the Marit cardigan looks amazing on you! And wow, such good work. I also love the Caitlin Hunter sweater you knit, which also looks amazing on you, and genius that you knit full sleeves on it.
That tee/sweater is stunning on you! Maybe make a cowl that is like a bib to wear with it when you go on those nice evenings out to eat, so you don't get the sweater dirty/stained...
I love that brown an orange shawl, it's a great combination and the pattern is lovely. I'm in Minnesota and wear all the knits about 9-10 months out of the year, I wear the shawls I've knit as scarves/cowls on top of my handknit sweaters every day from October through June (with days in September and sometimes August).
My socks always blow through in exactly that space on the bottom of my heel. I think it's because I wear socks around the house all day like slippers (on days I'm home from my full time work), I blew through more during the nearly two years I worked from home almost exclusively during covid. I have duplicate stitched a few favorites, but since I have probably 40 pairs (maybe more) of my handknit socks in my home, I don't need to hand on to any of my socks really...
Also, I LOVE my snag merino footless tights!
I'm crocheting basket after basket similar to the grey one you just showed....really trying to get all of the acrylic out of my stash. they are so useful and gorgeous (I've made them in colour families each time). Found you through Em to the third, looking forward to catching up through you epsodes. Also love the mid century furniture!
I loved your dress. And then you showed that wonderful jacket pattern. Both are just beautiful!! Your channel was recommended by A Hand Knit Letter. I can see why. Lovely video!!
I’m back! Have you ever watched Sew Sew Live? She has a series of alterations to fit the back of your garments. I haven’t worked through it yet but you might find it helpful. I know I have a lot of fitting skills to learn about.
As a fellow fat person, hell yes. It's so hard remembering that I'm allowed to expect better and want better and not accept "good enough." Also, love the dress. I really like the teal to grey effect made by pintucking the checked fabric.
Love the bunny buttons!
<3
I have faith that our paths will cross IRL someday! Hah! ❤ Your Rhinebeck yarn is gorgggg, can’t wait to see your sweater! And so so excited for the MAL 🐑💕
Claire, your hair is amazing! I love all the sleepy yarn you bought too.
Oh what nice yarns you got ⭐️ I’ve made the Seolta and it was fun and fast. So satisfying. Happy knitting 🌜
I loved seeing and hearing about your Rhinebeck weekend. I’ve never seen the Seolta sweater before. I had to add it to my Ravelry to knit list. Yours is going to be awesome.
I started the video and thought, “I have the exact same shirt!” haha loved seeing your Rhinebeck recap! Bummed we didn’t run into each other - maybe next year! Excited to start the Harlow KAL! I’m gonna be using a braid I picked up at Indie Untangled this year :)
Our hangout was absolutely one of the best parts of the trip!! 🥰🥰🥰 So glad we were able to connect~ And eeeeee can’t wait to get started on the MAL!!! The best co-hosts. 🙏🏼
I’m so excited to hear you want to knit the Seolta Pullover. I’ve been planning on knitting it since it came out but rarely heard anyone else talk about it. I also think that it’s a great pattern to shop for in person at special occasions. I got all of my contrast colours when I went to the UK on vacation and bought only local yarn. Spend definitely over an hour just holding the colours next to each other in the yarn store 😂 I was planning on casting it on this coming spring. The colour work feels quite springy/summery but obviously it’s a beast of a project. Love your colour choices. If you’re interested I dm you on instagram when I’m close to casting on and maybe our timelines match (but obviously these things change all the time 😅) I really enjoyed you sharing your rhinebeck experience
I’m so glad Claire shared that sweater, too! I’ve never seen it before. I need it now😂❤
Yay! I'm so happy to have caught your update on Rhinebeck. I just booked my accommodation todya for next year. It will be my first time and my first overseas holiday in a decade. I literally can't wait! Love all your yarn choices. I'm definitely leaning more natural woolly colours at the moment for garments. Can't wait to see your cast ons :)
What an interesting episode. So much stuff about you! I remember when you were new to knitting as a young teen and you’d have your friends over to knit on a Friday night! So wholesome ☺️! And the dress and scarf and jacket and everything are wonderful and look great on you! So proud.
Love your Garden Dress! That pattern is high on my to-make list as well :) I really appreciate you sharing about your body acceptance journey. I'm working through that as well - it's not easy!
Hope you had a fab Rhinebeck weekend!!! Following Bronte also took me down a journaling rabbit hole lol ❤
I’m sooooo with you on the “mojo” expression. Hahhah.
Claire, great seeing you! Your dress is GORGEOUS and looks so good on you. I’m making the Panel Dress by Puff and Pencil that also has ties at the sides. So cute. Have great fun at Rhinebeck and hope to see you soon 🧦🍁 hej fra mig, Ida
Hi, that is exactly how I feel, I spend a long time making my knits, and I love them, I put them on, and it's not how I wanted them to look. I am big, and I see all the thinner people making knits, and they look fab when finished, so it spurs me on to make them. But mine don't look good 😢 x
I definitely would enjoy more book content.
Oh! I have a question! What knitting/sewing podcasts/vlogs do you enjoy? I really appreciate you and other sincere sweeties/weirdos and would love to find more to follow. TY!
The jacket is super cute! So happy to hear you are going to Rhinebeck! Have fun!
Hi Claire, l adore and admire everything you make.😍 It's as if you are chosing and making all the projects I subconsciously am aiming for but end up with all the boring stuff😉. So thank you so much for loads of inspiration! The garden dress looks absolutely stunning & very beautiful on you🤩 I wonder and would love to know what literature you used to read🙏Love, Marcella from Zürich/Switzerland
Ah I love your latest finished sewing projects! Enjoy Rhinebeck x
Great video. Love the colour of your dress, looks great on you!👕
Yay! Let me tuck into my sweater and catch this episode 😃👏🏼🥰🧶🧶🧶
WHAAAT! That's why your hair always look so good! What's the fabric store? I wanna come visit (and ask a ton of questions). :)
I never get circular yokes to fit me nicely :(
Omg that pintucked dress 😍 my jaw is on the floor
Beautiful projects!
thank you!!
I love the pleats! Do you use a special foot on your machine for that?
thanks patricia!! the pintucks are sewn with a 1/4 inch seam allowance so i used a 1/4 inch foot i bought for quilting!
You're such a talented knitter and I love seeing all your colourwork. Your color pairings are always so good! For fit w/ circular yokes, I was reading that if you're moving the sieeves when separating, to only do it by a few stitches vs multiple inches. A little goes a long way, apparently. And since your yokes are turning out big, i know that sometimes people will pick a size based on upper bust measurement then cast on the extra stitches they need when they split for sleeves. I hope to see you post again before rhinebeck, but if not have a great time!!
thanks so much, these are great tips!!
Your sheep camp is beautiful!!!
thank you!!
Your handspun Harlow is absolutely GORG!!! I always love your handspun so much. I haven’t spun anything for a few months, you’re inspiring me to get back to my wheel ❤
thanks madison!! i should also get back on the wheel so i can make more hats!!
Hi Claire, I was super excited to see another video of yours pop up to watch. Yours are always my favorite to watch on a chill morning with my own knitting. And the insights that you bring to your design process are really helpful when thinking about knitting myself too. I love seeing all the things you make, and this time was no exception! I hope you have a good time at Reinebeck, and get to wear your wonderful sewn and knit garments!
thank you so much michele, you’re too kind!! and thanks for watching :)
I’ve also been having lots of thoughts about my circular yoke sweaters recently. I get a bit of bunching in the same spot you were pointing to. But I know I’ll make more in future because I love the designs so much. My ruminating at the moment is that maybe my upper bust is disproportionately smaller than my full bust. Because my chest sits quite low, like the widest measurement is a pretty far below where I separate for sleeves. So I’ve been considering for my next one that I’ll size down for the colourwork and then do some increases after finishing the yoke. Or maybe cast on quite a few extra underarm stitches? Lol I’m just thinking out loud into your comments 😂 maybe this is not a fully fleshed out plan… Anyway! I love the ways you’re finding to use your handspun. They feel very timeless
hahaha, feel free to think out loud here any time! i do think that might be my issue as well. i think my bust is proportionally small for my size… so much to consider. but it’s true that it’s worth considering because there are so many lovely round yoke sweaters out there!
Having the same round yoke issues as well.... my sleeves feel too big, as does the front. Thinking next time I will experiment with using my upper bust measurements for the yolk then increase to full bust size.
this seems to be what i should try next as well!
Go Claire <3
😎
You're a talented human, there Claire. I love how you analyze your sweaters. I just got my knitting mojo back after a long dry summer and it feels good to be at it again. Your podcast was quite timely. Thanks!
thanks so much ann! i’m glad the video came at a good time :))
Have you ever used Illimani Sabri?! One of my favorite yarns of all time and sounds right up your street for summer.
i have not! but i’d love to try it, thanks for the suggestion!
Hi Claire! I'm always so happy when you post a new video. Your videos are my comfort watch every time. Your purple lace tee and Sheep Camp sweater are incredible! I'm not a sewer at all but wow, your projects blew my mind. When you tried on your bedsheet dress, I actually gasped! And that gingham pintuck one...I think that's my dream dress! I love seeing all the projects you've been up to. Looking forward to your next video already.
ohh thank you you’re too kind!! i’m so glad you like the videos and the things i make :)))
Beautiful knits! The purple lace tee looks amazing on you. Just had to chime in to say I’m pretty sure that yarn is named after an old Metric song (Succexy) 😊 which is a thing I know because I am old 😂
hahaha i think you must be right!! i haven’t thought about metric in a long time… so thank you for the reminder!
I made an Azor earlier this year! It was very fun to knit and it’s quite pretty; I think my only quibble is I could’ve done with fewer short rows / something about the fit feels a SMIDGE off but I’m struggling to articulate it without the piece in front of me
hmmm yes there are quite a lot of short rows at the back under the yoke, i could see it maybe feeling too long back there?? but we’ll see! i feel like maybe some of them could be moved to the back of the neck instead.
