We had super lucky conditions of an isolated storm to the south with little to no clouds for a while. Unfortunately, the clouds started to roll in as the storm moved away, so the best of it was already fading. With that said, there was still some cool action. Last night I tried capturing my first comet. Discovered in 1948, the orbital period is around 5.4 years. I saw many people online posting photos of the comet, and so yesterday I decided I would spend some time trying to capture it. I went over to O'hare for a few hours with my friend Kevin to planespot and wait for the British Airways A380 to land. I wanted to get a photo of the conjecture between Mars and Saturn, but didn't want to wake up at 5 in the morning to take the photo. My solution was to set up the camera on a timer to start taking photos around 4 and then take as many until it died. This past August the United States witnessed something quite amazing: a total solar eclipse of the sun over the continental US. I went to southern Illinois to photograph, film, and witness the event.
