I discovered Barney Wilen when I came across the live video of Bud Powell playing at the Club Saint Germain in Paris. Stellar performance, and an incredible line up with Barney on tenor, Clark Terry on trumpet, Pierre Michelot on bass, Kenny Clarke on drums, and of course Bud Powell on piano.
It was the year 2004 when that video was on TH-cam in its full length, and at that time it felt like having found the Holy Grail of jazz! Now you can only find a few low res tracks from that recording, but luckily you can still find the audio.
Maybe someone can re-upload it for everyone to enjoy. In the meantime here's my transcription of Barney Wilen's solo, as well as the beginning of Bud's solo which I'll be posting in its entirety soon.
