    My dream boat

    Also, would this be a lot less work if you just hooked the bow side of the gin pole to a separate winch and pulled it up that way, instead of undoing and redoing the main sheet lines?

    I’d like to know what the system at the base of the mast is called? A block? That pin makes for a great pivot point to raise the mast

      @mikeg7924 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It is a block and tackle system that raises the mast

    Most important thing you did not mention, AIM THE BOAT INTO THE WIND!!!!!!!! (OR ELSE)

    Would love more details on that gin pole. How is it mounted to the deck? Also what a you using for the stabilizer shrouds? Where do they attach and how do you disconnect after raising?

    • @mikeg7924
      @mikeg7924 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do you have a 32RK? The gin pole is not connected to the deck. The part sticking up in front of the mast is the Keel stick that is embedded in the keel. The gin pole is removable and does not stay with our boat. I leave it in the truck. It's just square stock with a cheek block on it. There are two shrouds on the side, a backstay and forestay. lightly swept spreaders.

      @@mikeg7924 its a very cool approach. Everyone else attaches gin pole to the mast. In my case, a catalina 30 with a forward titling tabernacle, folks use the boom as a ginpole. I chickened out and am getting it winched at a san diego yard with riggers engaged. You can’t get a mast pulled here with approved riggers at the yard and to get priority from them, you have to let them do the rigging. I would have saved like 6 grand doing myself with rigging from catalina direct online, thanks!!!

    Do you still own this boat?

    That looked to me as if someone forgot to instate the backstay.

      I think that pulley system from the main was used instead of the forstay

    Where is the Jin pole fasten too ?

    • @mikeg7924
      @mikeg7924 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It slips into the keel stick. Then just throw it in the truck when done

    I have a 2015 32RK and I bought the mast raising kit for this boat but my kit came with a set of pulleys that I assume are used instead of the mainsheet system as you demonstrate. When I purchased the boat, there was a mast raising video for the type of system I purchased. The video doesn't seem to be available on TH-cam anymore. Do you know how I could get a copy of this (is there any support info for Seaward now)?

    • @mikeg7924
      @mikeg7924 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This is the original video that was produced by hake slash SeaWorld yachts. This is not my video. I also have the same mass tracing system you do with a block and tackle system and its own line. I was not aware that there is a video besides the one of me raising my Mast using that particular system. I certainly like mine a lot better than using the main sheet anyway.

      Yes. Specifically the 32RK.

    Would a dingy davit system be possible on this boat? Possibly incorporated into an a solar arch. Thinking hard about this sailboat for retirement Bahamas sailing. Would love a dinghy davit system also for day fishing adventures. Thanks and beautiful boat.

      @mikeg7924 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the compliment on the boat. I have thought about a davit system for the boat. Currently we use a Portabote as a dingy. It's a good solution and we like it. These guys do a great job of explaining the Portabote. th-cam.com/video/WHHrLTMZSYg/w-d-xo.html It's mounted on the starboard side in SUP mounts that are mounted to the stanchions, or we lash it to the side of the cabin top. As you see, we trailer the boat so having a full arch is not an option due to height, unless it was in connecting pieces and could be disassembled for transport. Believe me, I have thought about this as an option. I believe that an arch that incorporates both davits and solar is totally doable on this boat. If you're looking for a new boat, talk to Nick at Island Packet Yachts as they are the current manufacturer. He's a great guy and could definitely help design something like what you are talking about. If going used, I would find a very reputable fabricator and work with them on it. We happen to have one in our home town which makes the idea very tempting. The previous owners of our boat had it in the Bahamas for many months before upgrading to much bigger boat, so I know it can be done pretty easy.

    I just bought an Ericson 26 swing keel, love the video, impressed with your mast raising system actually picked up few tips. You just raised my bar for possibilities here in the PNW, How does she sail, ever had her in 20k+ Beautiful Thanks for sharing

      The Seaward 32RK sails very well in my opinion. We changed the factory sail plan from a single 135 Genoa head sail to a 110% jib with a Doyle UPS (aka code zero) on a Seldon continuous furler out front. When we're under ~14 knots apparent, we can fly the UPS and really move along. When the wind freshens up, we furl that and deploy the jib. Last regatta we sailed in, the wind increased from 18 knots up to over 30 knots by the time we turned the last buoy. If I remember right, we were hitting 7.5 knots consistently on a reach and around 7 knots beating. Needless to say, we had the keel at maximum depth of 6'-5" to increase our righting moment. We have rounded up a couple of times, but that's because we pushed too hard. Now that we know where she likes to run, we don't push hard anymore. Just reef accordingly, and enjoy a fast comfortable sail.The really neat thing about this boat is that the keel retracts showing a minimum draft of 20". Yes, 20"! If there is bridge clearance (43'), I can launch her from any boat ramp and can sneak into the shallowest of waters. I don't know if this is allowed, but here is a link to the Seaward website. I think Nick Hake had some great ideas and the engineering that went into this boat for everything to work the way it does is just great. www.seawardyachts.com/32rk/

    How long does it take to set up?

    • @mikeg7924
      @mikeg7924 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      3-4 hours for everything. We used to have a Macgregor and I got the set up time down to about 1 hour on that. The Seaward is no Macgregor. This boat can go anywhere. It is solid!

      Fu Dog Whisperer We keep her in a slip. But we can take the boat anywhere we choose with a 3/4 ton truck. Try doing that with a conventional 32' sailboat. Thanks for the comment.
