History and a Cup of Tea at Buhl Mansion in Sharon, Pennsylvania
Today we’re visiting the former home of Frank and Julia Buhl in Sharon, Pennsylvania. This stunning and majestic Richardsonian Romanesque home was completed in 1896 and remains the architectural legacy of Youngstown, Ohio architect Charles Owsley. Frank Buhl is best known as the father of the industrial Shenango Valley with many of his philanthropic efforts still evident throughout the area.
Let us share with you today a bit of history on the Buhl’s then transport you back to the gilded age as we take a peek inside this marvelous mansion while we indulge in a festive cup of tea for an event hosted by the Buhl Mansion as well as the Sharon Historical Society. All right here on History and Relics!

My grandfather knew him well, he competed against him in track and field in high school, and also Jimmy dated his cousin. @historyandrelics Thank you. Unfortunately, no photos, just the stories; and really, not many at that. But the way they were told, it wasn't bragging or anything like that, I'm 99% certain it was true. .... the only photo I ever saw of my grandfather in the 1920s, was his college team photo, the Pennsylvania Quakers, which at that time was the equivalent of professional football today. .. I have no idea where that photograph is today.

My Dad worked for Coke Cola Foods in Geneva and they had their company Christmas parties at the Unionville Tavern. I also have some pictures of the Unionville Tavern just before the Madison Preservation Society took over the building and put a fence up around it. Great video! Don't forget about the Rider Inn in Painesville, Ohio!

I toured back in 2013 as a detour from the Blue Ridge Parkway where we stayed at the Pisgah Inn. I knew nothing about the estate or the Vanderbilts until I went there. That place gave off some weird vibes. You didn't photograph the basement. Interesting graffiti on the walls. George seemed to be your classic dandy. Had family money, didnt hold a job but was quite capable of apending his inheritance on whatever bauble struck his fancy. Odd place to build a summer house when you want to make sure you can entertain and impress people. Out in the middle of nowhere, where no one can hear you scream.

Very true. I live relatively close to a couple Amish communities here in Northeast Ohio (USA). Some are very strict regarding traditions of old while others are using or introducing more Yankee or modern technology including vehicles, electric, etc. making for more diverse communities throughout. Thank you for watching and sending a comment. Best regards!

Then they will turn it into a ghoulish attraction. There were photos there of George and his hunting buddies holding rifles. Out there in the middle of no where, wanna bet they weren't hunting deer? George also looked like a flaming fag. I think he just had the obligatory child to direct suspicion away from his proclivities. Maybe she isn't even his.

Growing up a Dodger fan on the early 1970's, we had season tickets, got to watch Pete dozens of times, and always wished he was a Dodger. One of the greatest, if not the greatest player i ever saw in person, including Hank Aaron. RIP Mr. Rose.

The '81 version is more contoured than the '79 and '80 model. The rosewood '81 model, with Seth Lover humbucker, features a walnut "skunk stripe" on its neck and a BWB pick guard (the '82 is WBW) it also has a 7.25" to 12" compound radius, so you can get insanely low "shredder action" without killing any bends. Mine has .60/.40 action, which feels heavenly on a chunky 7.25" "U" shaped neck profile. These were all made in the original Fullerton Fender factory and designed by master builders who founded Fender's Custom Shop, so it's a very special and historically relevant guitar. I think these guitars are a tribute to earlier Fender's with a hot rodded twist for the Van Halen's of the 80s. A kind of, Stratocaster/Telecaster hybrid with little nods to the 50s, 60s and 70s Fender's that came before it. For example, the headstock is reminiscent of a 50s Fender and it has the same tone woods, nut width and U neck profile as one. It also has the same small vintage frets too. But its F tuners are from 60s/70s models. As the ads for it stated, they were deliberately designed to weigh over 9 pounds and it really does give them a very special tone. But I think the heavier weight of these guitars is why they didn't really catch on at the time. They were only $100 less than a Strat when they were released, so they weren't cheap or budget guitars. My one still looks brand new and I think that's a testament to its high quality construction and hardware. They're exceptional and highly playable guitars with incredible tone. I'm glad they're finally getting the recognition they deserve
