That summary says she was killed by "a mob of Christians", but both factions in the dispute were made up of Christians - it was an overwhelmingly Christian city. The dispute had nothing to do with Christianity or religion. Read any modern scholarly account of her lifem, such the recent study by Edward Watts or the one by Maria Dzielska. This commonly repeated idea that she was killed over something to do with religion is an Enlightement myth.

@@historyforatheists9363maybe you have your reasons for advocating the viewpoint that you are doing but it is like saying that the abortion ruling by SCOTUS is a political thing and it has nothing to do with religion/Christianity. Or that 9/11 was political and had nothing to do with religion. Or ongoing killing of Palestinians is a political issue. Without religion none of these issues exists. Without religious struggle between Romans and Christians the reason for killing Hypatia doesn't exist.

Both of the political factions in the political struggle that led to her death were thus made up of Christians. The struggle was over political dominance, not religion. It was between the old, established aristocratic upper city elites, led by the Prefectus Orestes and supported by the aristocratic conservative Hypatia, and the radical lower city poorer class, led by the upstart Cyril. It was not about religion. My only reason for advocating this "viewpoint" is that I've actually studied the sources and the current expert scholarship on the matter. Have you read teh books by Watts and Dzielska that I referred to? These are the works of actual scholars, not some AI slop on TH-cam. Try reading actual books by real acacademic experts.
