Memories Box / Jewelry Box from Peruvian Walnut
In this video, I create a box using a beautiful piece of Peruvian walnut from our local woodshop. This was made as a gift to my girlfriend to hold photos, letters, etc. from our time together. I had a blast creating it and had several opportunities to hone some new skills along the way. Hope you enjoy :)

This was my first attempt at documenting one of my projects. This piece was commissioned by a good friend of mine. I was pleased with the end product but am open to any criticism or suggestions. beautiful! quick question, what thickness did you plane it to?
Thank you! I just went and measured the box. Looks like the walls are 1/2”. Top and bottom are around 3/8”
What router bit did you use to get the leg detail on the bottom of the box? Lovely job!
Thank you! I believe it was a 1/2" or 5/8" straight bit to hog out the material and then I did a little shaping by hand with sandpaper.

Love the Peruvian walnut. I've used it in a few of my own projects. It has such a strong, dark brown color you don't always see with NA black walnut
Thanks! I agree. It’s one of my favorite species to work with. Love the strong grain contrasts.
What’s the router blade to route the bottoms
I believe it was a 1/2” or 5/8” straight bit to hog out the material and then I did a little shaping by hand with sandpaper.
The music is awful!!!
Very nice work
Thank you!
beautiful box , would you share the plans ?
Thank you! I don’t have any plans because I just kinda winged it based on my available stock. If I recall, the dimensions were roughly 10”L x 6.5”W x 5”T. I sized it to fit folded 8.5x11 paper.
Absolutely beautiful. I love your creativity!
Thank you! :)
Спасибо, хочется смотреть без перемотки. Очень поучительно. Thanks, I want to watch it without rewinding. Very instructive.
Thank you, glad you enjoyed
Nice build. Great for the new person that doesn’t have a planer or drum sander. I was wondering why you didn’t show a check for square on your glue up or tape the outside edges of your boards to ensure that they stayed in line? Not ripping you, because you showed many good techniques in the video. Especially love the feet.
Thanks! I appreciate the feedback. Off camera I did check for square before gluing on the top but I didn’t think to include a shot if it. Something to remember for the future I guess. Regarding your question about taping the edges, this was my first time making a box like this so I wanted to make sure I could see the edges on the glue up to check for gaps, so I opted to just use the frame clamps instead of tape. I still ended up with some minor gaps on the miters so perhaps I’ll try the tape method next time. Thanks!
Quality video, quality build. I hope to see more of this, and i agree with @runs_through_the_forest would love to hear some original sounds. Keep it up
Thank you very much, I appreciate the support/feedback and look forward to making more!
Great job looks amazing
Thank you!
Riving knife, get it
Yeah… forgot to reinstall it 😅 thanks for the reminder
That's a very nice box. I enjoyed seeing it made. But just a question, won't the glued down top and base be prone to splitting due to seasonal movement?
Thank you! I really appreciate that. You make a valid point about the top. I had seen many others create a top in this fashion and assumed the minimal material overlap wouldn’t be a problem. If I get any seasonal movement, I’ll be sure to come back and leave a note.
peruvian walnut, is that a separate species? nice build and lovely wood, if i can feel free to give a tip for future video's, people love the sound of a craftsman working, the machines and the glue smearing.. and the sound of using a bench plane is the ultimate finishing touch.. :p personally i to find a woodworking video best with mostly original audio and maybe once in a while some music.. anyhow hope you can grow the channel and keep making video's cheers
Thank you for the kind words and suggestions! I too am a fan of the meditative sound of woodworking tools. As I grow the channel, I will experiment with other techniques and find a style that both I and the audience will appreciate. Appreciate the feedback! And yes, I recently discovered the species. It’s a darker walnut with very pronounced grain. I love the look
Absolutely beautiful box ☺☺
Thank you!
Great build the box turned out great 👍
Thank you! Glad you liked it
Good job :)
Thanks for the support!
