The Willamette Heights Craftsman is a harmonious blend of past and future-a historic renovation infused with countless design details and a modern build that showcases Passive House building principles.
Perched on a hillside with panoramic views stretching north and east, the Willamette Heights Craftsman seamlessly integrates with its surroundings while commanding attention. With its cedar shingle facade and continuous steam-bent swoop detail, the home’s exterior begins to tell its story: a delightful dichotomy, where a traditional vernacular meets high performance building. This home shows us, with detail after detail, that nostalgia need not compromise in the name of the Passive House standards; that not only the two can coexist, they can mutually elevate the other.
While technically a remodel, this project involved carefully deconstructing the original home, piece by piece, and rebuilding it with precision. The footprint remains nearly unchanged, but thoughtful planning allowed for the addition of a spacious main bedroom and bathroom on the second floor, offering sweeping views of downtown Portland and beyond.
