I want to keep this because I worked hard on it and quite happy with my walking at the time, especially played in one take for an assessment.

In honor of @lelandsklar6363 , who inspired me to pick up the bass in the first place and serve the music over everything else. I hope i managed to achieve that in my own way. At least this is where I’m at now on my musical journey.

Great John Scofield track with Gary Grainger. Tried to emulate as well as I could the crisp bright bass tone.

This was my live SBL Blueprint assessment piece which I recorded. I didn't record the video unfortunately! Dingwall bass with foam mute for the sound. Shout out to “Jazz for Piano” website for the tips.

cool kiru, good to seeing you play again!
Thanks! I took a little pause but the fingers still work.
Great job! I play drums and always play to the live recordings. You sound really good.
Thanks!
Surprisingly acoustic vibe to the sound. Not sure what JSB would think of the blue and orange electric bass but….
I like to think he would be playing outdoor concerts with blue and orange lasers! Probably not. I spent a while tweaking the treble control on the bass to tame the zingy metallic sound but keep a tiny hint of raspy overtones to give some warmth. It’s a very fine balance, a little one way and it sounds woolly and muffled and the other way sounds edgy and clicky.
WELL DONE KIRU.
Hey! Thanks Richard and it’s great to hear from you! Hope you are well. How is the music going?
👍🏼
Great cover.
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Heyy soo cool! since when do you play the Bass? I also have a Fender bass, I really love Fender, they also have nice guitars!
This song has a bass track?
Amazing bass track by the great Tony Levin! There are a few videos on TH-cam about this iconic bassline if you search for it. It’s well worth it if you like this song!
Sounds super. I’ve got the five string Thumb fretless, you make the four sound wonderful.
Thanks! The octave pedal makes a huge difference.
Hey can you do another copy of this with isolated Bass you sound amazing🎉❤
Thanks for listening and the kind words! I have the bass recorded in Logic Pro - the signal chain is Warwick Fretless -> MXR Bass Octave Deluxe -> Boss CE5 Chorus -> UAD interface adding some compression while I was recording. The original track had the bass stripped out with Moises which is an amazing tool for studying music.
The algorithm brought me here. Nice !
Beautiful playing, superb job. I found it really cool when your son walked in the room that you smiled and remained calm and talked to him instead of getting mad, it shows you're a great dad.
Brazil here ! Perfect cover exactly like the original record ! Congratulations !! In the future i hope see a Barry White 's ¨You´re the first the last my everything ¨ bass cover !!
Wow, thank you!
Beautiful !!! I wonder if its possible to do it on 4-string bass..? Just listened (not studied in detail the notes and strings), but some sounds really appeared sooo low and deep..! (not accessible by 4-strings base..?)
Thanks! Actually this was an exercise entirely aimed at tickling out the very low frequencies from my Dingwall. There is a Db in there but most of the notes are accessible on 4-string. The real trick I found was to play very lightly, which focuses the fundamental and not the overtones. If you play hard it loses all the low end. Then I did boost the bass with the active preamp but after that i kept the signal chain very clean so not lose any of the good stuff in phase effects or other noise. The DI sounds is the purest sound of the vibrating string.
Sick bass. I loved playing through these minuets on viola as a youngster. Something about bach just scratches an itch.
Thanks! It’s a great exercise - I’m just developing my chops and posting my progress but Bach really helps to fine tune the technique. Thanks for listening!
Drums TOO LOUD, bass to low..bass players....TURN UP THE BASS VOLUME.
Thanks, appreciate the feedback. Still working on my bass playing and still have a long way to go on the mixing front!
Amazing work! I'm planning on getting my first fanned fret bass soon, how's the learning curve?
Much easier than you would think. After a few hours you won’t notice the frets but you will notice how great it sounds!
Hey, what are the books on the back about?
Just random books collected over years. Nothing to do with bass particularly!
Beautiful dingwall, great tone.
Glad you like it!
10/10
Thanks!
well done
Thanks!
do you play cello?
i don't, but thanks for asking
No I don’t but I am learning bass so this was quite an exercise for me! I wish I did play cello - such a nice sound.
der Bass klingt echt klasse !!!
Danke schön!
Great job....I see my Dingwall is the background. Was this at Walters?
My lovely wife offered to get me one during lockdown and Dingwall offered your signature model in the gorgeous Le Mans colours. This was during covid and I was just starting to learn bass while watching your TH-cam channel! Thanks for watching, it’s an honour. I’m taking online lessons and posting my efforts on my channel to observe my progress over time. The location is my humble study at home in London, England.
Watched all your posted videos. Doing a very good job. Keep it up and enjoy! All my best wishes, lee
Nice Dingwall! Is that the Lee Sklar signature?
It is indeed!
Wow this is cool! We are a kids family band from NZ and thought you might like to see our version too :) thanks th-cam.com/video/FF-lZKO0YbU/w-d-xo.html
