I live up in the woods of the PNW Mt St Helens area. I do the same thing. Normally on a quad. I take friends up high at night so they can see the moon and the stars on a clear night. The snow on the tree's, and maybe even some game. We have a waterfall also, but that's a daytime thing, to see and enjoy it. I'm 70 years old, and the woods are home to me and my family. Not scary but beautiful and full of life. Obviously, the driver knew where he was, and how to drive it. Alot of the "abandoned" roads and trails he was on, has power and phone boxes, as well as sub-division markers. He had more than likely been to the old cabin before also. The mud slides look like beaver slides. I'm surprised he didn't see any critters.
