This can't be him 6 months ago. Here he looks a half-lifetime younger than he looks nowadays.

Wonderful posting! Thanks so much for this (and thanks to Martha too). I hope someday we can see the complete video of Schumann's Quintet with Ivry & Martha from the Beppu Festival!
Individuality!!!
I met him several times and knew him a bit. Unfortunately, he had cleaned his Strad too often and to a point that there was very little original varnish left on it, But what a guy! there is nobody left in our boring characterless times like him.
@hartmutlindemann9735 yes, I completely agree with you.
77 year old Ivry Gitlis! As brave and direct as ever. This was more or less the final year he would play repertoire of this scope. He did a wonderful Berg concerto from the same year.
he is amazing!
What a performance, what fearless passion!
Divine! Rest in peace and Live the glory of eternity.....
Wonderful
What a delight. In 1969 it was my great privilege to study with him. To this day, when I see him as a young man, I want to thank him. I also want to tell him I remember every remark, and every piece and every observation he ever shared with me. He was-no-is, in this video-a treasure! Thanks violinviolin for posting!
Grandissimo
He is so kind.
I love you and mis your play all the way from Philippines God Bless us Always

I. Sang in the choir at this concert and I will never forget it
Wow
Qjamesling9 557 is right, and Mr Rosand is wrong about general advantage of absent SR. Important notice: Rosand advice of proper violin position is highly valuable and well proven generally. Majority, if not all of the most famous players in the old days had SHORT neck. What happened with long neck people is they were not offered SR during their musical education because in those days SR were not used at all. If SR was offered to such people, we would see many more long neck top players in those days. You have quite obvious example of Albert Markov without SR, and his son Alexander who is a head taller then his father, having quite long neck and using SR. What is more, Markov family is the initiator of Markov SR of their own construction. Still the father plays himself with no SR. Playing without SR gives better tone production so people without SR has certain musical advantage. People with long necks forced to play without SR or used to play without it, IMO have anatomical disadvantage and mechanically awkward neck position, and it is logically possibly leading to injury on the long run or after active music career. However very few small profile research is done on musicians' injuries in general, because nobody cares nor have the responsibility what happens to retired musicians, That is similar to profesional sportsmen after active period.
My dear sweet wife.
Thankyou so much for sharing this. I have been searching for a full rendition of Master Menuhin playing this Bach classic.
A Master at work.
Absolute brilliance

The final endboss
Just found your video. Excellent! Thanks for sharing your knowledge!

This man has taken "playing a violin" to a stratosphere no one can even imagine. He isn't human
What a gem!!! Thanks for sharing ❤ Le Roi Arthur, gloire du violon! One of the greatest performers of the 20th Century.
So Lyrical , Beautiful Tone , Great interpretation . "Sir Aaron Rosand"
Awesome!Bravo............
Exellent performance ❤
The second thing he plays is obviously Bach's 3rd sonata (for violin and harpsichord). I love the smile on the luthier's face so much... Is the first thing he plays from a piece as well? Sounds a little bit like Vieuxtemps?
❤
Pure genius.
Sensational ! Fabulous composition and even more fantastic playing.
Unbelievable playing from an 82 year old!
