The first one was funnier in my opinion

I agree this effort is an acquired taste and it really shows how they've fallen out from the mainstream. I personally think it's great the label lets them do whatever they want. After a couple of listens I actually really enjoy this album but I admit it's a weird one. They don't even sound like themselves anymore, as if they've ripped out the entire foundation and started over again. 🤷‍♀️

Mark Foster wanted to experiment more and go for an old 70s theme? I don't remember exactly but he said something like that in his reddit AMA. Personally, I stick to their older albums. Supermodel, SHC, Torches (also new X edition), a lot of singles they released too and this new album feels like an acquired taste. I have this rule of judging songs only after forcefully listening to them 3 times in a shuffle playlist with other songs I want to check. After that I take a break and whichever song I play back in my head turns out I really like. For example from this album, "Lost In Space" song, I felt nothing about it the first time but after coming across it from shuffle playlists I started liking it. I do this on Spotify, pretty good technique for me to find music I'll enjoy, haha.😂 but Foster The People are one of my favorites, they know I'm their target audience.
