Wow. I use MS since about 16 months with the upmost and profound pleasure. And hearing this confirm that I will continue for quite some times. 😇
Overall it sounds great, but that flute is wild oh my god lmao
I can't see the reverb window for some reason. Help?
Have you tried pressing F10 (Fn+F10) for the mixer? Also, did you download the Reverb plugin found in the Muse Hub effects tab? Hope this helps.
@@karolcpm- i dont see any effects tab in the Muse Hub. Is it maybe because Im on Linux?
@@mosest20 Maybe, maybe not. I would direct you to the MuseScore notation app support forums, the community will help you there.
@@karolcpm- ok thank you for the help
This is great! I am getting into MuseScore so this is a very big help! Thanks for creating and sharing!
MuseScore jave definitely come a long way. Makes you question the $200+ yearly Sibelius Ultimate subscription. A problem I have with these software is playing back what I actually write. I orchestrate for performance not midi playback. I don't like touching the midi window. When correctly written, the instruments should be fairly balanced, obviously this is also the job of the conductor. Balancing the orchestra. I tried to write something so it would sound good on the playback, just to realized I had to rewrite a lot of stuff and add unrealistic number of instruments an orchestra will never hire. It's great that we can heaar my music being play back as supposed to hearing in my head, but messing with the volume and changing texture with reverv makes me uncomfortable. I want a software that will playback sul pont. Or col legno on my string section. Violin chords have to be re written. Violins roll the bow across to reach all the notes, which gives it a unique sound. Not all the notes are play at once. I don't want 4 flutes so it sounds full when I'm writing a solo flute.
Oooo Shostakovich! nice!
I love this! Just FYI as a Viola player, the part at 2:20 is unplayable as it goes below our lowest note.
Ok I loved this walkthrough. Thank you for your knowledge.
what proeq do you use for the solo instrument, lke the piano or the harp?
Generally for piano or Harps i use Strings proeq
My reverb is gone like I downloaded it and re-download it but it still won't pop up ?
That happened to me before. I had to go to Muse Hub and redownload it after using task manager to close Musehub
@@Musescore4show how did u do it ?
Exited out of musescore, task manager quit muse hub then reopened musehub and redownloaded the reverb. The settings in the piece were gone so I had to redo it.@@Koryanders-pg8on
@@Musescore4show how do u re download the reverb I click on the like the checkmark and it doesn't do anything?
How can I change the default piano sound to almost like Grand Piano sound?
iirc there is a grand piano-esque sound sample but the majority of it probably going to come from your proeq and reverb settings
The sound is near perfect, to me the tempo seems slightly off though
I used the musescore files tempos and didn't tweak them. The sounds I tweak but not tempos
@@Musescore4show perhaps it is that, in a real performance, the pauses are much more obvious
Then, all the money i paid for virtual orchestra? Musescore is free and sound incredible !!!😢😅Congratulation for your job!!!
Impressive job!!!
I believe the pizzicatos are less strong in a real world orchestra.
You're right but also depends on mixing of a live orchestra.
@@Musescore4show Then it is a tampered reality and symphony orchestras usually do not use electrical amplifiers.
Pleaaase i beg you how did you write the cadenza pleeaaaase make a tutorial
I didn't write it. The person who wrote the musescore file is attributed in the description.
Greetings, excellent, how it sounds, how would I ask you to provide me with the score file?
The link in the description has it.
Staff Pad Hall reverb sounds very similar to the default Aux channel reverb plugin 'Muse Reverb' under 'Muse' in plugins, I'm guessing the Staffpad Hall is just there so that you can dry/wet on the master if you don't want to micro the reverb. Or do they sound different to you?
They sound similar but I use both in conjunction. It allows some instruments/parts to come out more while making others more subdued in the mix.
Note performer is much much better than this
Absolutely beautiful! Well done 👏👏
Very interesting to hear, showcases the strengths but especially the weaknesses of the MS4 playback.
Horrible!
Mark Sabatini on his MuseScore teaching channel just discussed the solo violin issue. He showed that you can change the violin sound to a baroque style that doesn't slide. You make the change on the top bar of the mixer. go to Muse sounds-strings and select violine and then change to violin 2. NO more slides.
THANK YOU SO MUCH!
*Sabatella
His TH-cam site is Mastering Muscore. It's a full fledged teaching site. He is associated with the developers, but not part of the development team.
Did you post your changed score? I'd like to download and hear the changes you've made. Thank you!
I posted the video right after! I don't reupload them on Musescore because I feel like that would fall too close to taking someones work and reposting it as mine if you get what i mean
Can you share the link for download?

This is INSANE. Musescore for life
Nice work.
Thanks to Musescore 4 Music for encouraging additional tips to help others! :) Click the replies button to see all the tips.
#1 Before proceeding, I recommend saving a backup copy of the score; best done when the piece is complete.
#2: Turn off the default reverb on each part (as shown on 3:57). The Muse Sounds Reverb plugin (from the Muse Hub) has better options. I find StaffPad Hall is excellent option for calm pieces, though it may result in a muddier reverberation with pieces that are fast and loud. Medium Room Reverb is dryer than StaffPad Hall, but it will retain instrument details and provide a very realistic reverb, even with past and loud paced pieces. Feel free to experiment with other reverb options for an option that works best for your piece.
#3: Important step already mentioned in the previous comment: Playback the loudest part in the entire piece and adjust the master volume in the mixer, until the meter reads around 0 units during loudest passages. This will eliminate any clipping in the audio export.
#4: Cinematic orchestral panning will generally balance the instruments to be easy on the ear while perceiving a soundscape (as was done at 8:29). However, the method for classical pieces often pan the horns at the left, rest of the brass at the right or center, violins 1 at the far left, etc... If you want to pan based on the standard orchestral layout, you can search for "orchestral panning graphs" for a visual guide, or download the template guide found in the description below my tutorial video.
#5: MuseScore and any other notation apps are not live performers and often have playback issues interpreting dynamics in scores, especially scores not natively made in notation software. Keep in mind perceived loudness (how loud the performer is playing as heard by the ear) and the actual loudness (how loud the volume is, regardless to the player's dynamics). For (an extreme) example, you can have a solo instrument clearly audible at PPP while the rest of the orchestra is at FF (though this would sound unrealistic). A piano playing quietly at PP would be very soft compared to a hard F. If an instrument is not loud enough, is it because the dynamic is too soft or because the instrument volume is too soft. In my experience, Muse Sounds trumpets and bass drum usually need a good boost to be reasonably audible. Once satisfied with the dynamics (as on 18:46), adjust the individual part volumes until the important instruments are reasonably audible. Unfortunately depending on the piece, you may not be able to make everything audible or mud will result. The original MS Basic sounds most are used to are synthesized to be clear and very audible, while Muse Sounds are sampled for better realism. The goal in this step is to make the most significant passages reasonably audible.
Interesting approach, removing the reverb sends and adding reverb on the master bus. Why not edit the reverb effect in Aux 1? Then you can still have the individual control of how much reverb each instrument is given.
Generally, I blanket everything in 1 reverb on master and apply to specific ones if needed. If its a piece that requires odd things in terms of instruments then I would only do it individually.
jsyk there’s a button right in the top of the screen called mixer that if you click will show the mixer, you don’t have to go through the view dialogue. also as far as navigating in your score i noticed you use your mouse a lot, using the scroll wheel combined with the shift and control buttons can (after some getting used to) help navigate a lot faster!
Usually, I always have the mixer out automatically on my second monitor I just explained where it is for the people who haven't used it yet. Most of the time I barely zoom in or scroll but for the video, I had to show specific areas/emphasize them. Thank you for the comments! I hope it can help others :)!
How many tries did it take before you got it to load and play through without crashing?
Not sure what you mean but I've only had the program crash on me a few times and it was doing a 45min+ piece and it failed a save or something.
Great video and good sample of how powerfull the Muse Sounds can be. Hope in a next video you can include the popup dialogs as well, had the program opened together with the video to understand what you did in effects.
I will try my best to have the popups in next time! I just didn't notice it until it happened and thought well lets just roll with it haha
@@Musescore4show it is a nice method to trick people in following along using the software. Though at the beginning a bit odd as you mention the dialog content and it does not show. Thanks for the effort.
Did you use reverb per instrument or through the master?
I did it through the master and only on some individual
Thank you ! Very helpful 🙏🏻
what would you say with percussion? Like timpani, or other percussive instruments?
For pitched percussion like Timpani I use Organic Drums for FX. Depending on the use I'll put Snappy Drums or Big Band for a drum set
@@Musescore4show you’re amazing, thank you so much!
Nice tips! I never thought about using a violin section through a vocal booth to substitute for a more realistic solo violin. There have not been many tutorials on making MuseScore 4 Muse Sounds sound better, so I am glad to know here is one. (Brief MuseScore 4 Muse Sounds tip below.) Particularly for loud pieces: If the exported audio is clipping (distorting in the MP3/WAV/FLAC export but not in the MuseScore 4 application), playback the piece at the loudest passage and set the master volume until the meter reads around 0 units. This tip has always worked in the MuseScore community, so I thought I share here since it is a common problem. Hope this helps for anyone having playback problems. P.S. Musescore 4 Music, would you mind if I commented a few more tips on MuseScore with Muse Sounds? Edit: Here are the tips! th-cam.com/video/5p6KLjMSna8/w-d-xo.html&lc=UgyFyrwTanPkjdS-OVJ4AaABAg
