I have a degree in classical guitar but stopped playing and practicing seriously since I graduated from the conservatory in 2017. On the 2nd of July, 2020, I decided to commit into practicing again at least 1 hour every day but transitioning to jazz, blues, and contemporary. Almost everything you'll see here in my channel is my journey to be a better musician. I can say that it's somewhat like a video journal for my progress, but the main reason why I'm posting my videos here on youtube is so everyone can see that with enough dedication and perseverance, a progress will always be a progress no matter how big or small it will be, and that hard work can beat talent. (not that it's a competition 😅)
Practicing Improvisation (Slow Haunting Blues Guitar BT in A Minor) (Day 1624 - 1630, Week 234)
Hello all. My name is Steven and I have been playing guitar for over 10 years now. It first started as a hobby then I eventually took it as a career. I graduated from a conservatory as a classical guitarist but it has always been my dream to play jazz, blues, or any other genre with a full knowledge to what I'm playing.
Tho you might expect that I should be better than this due to my degree, but to me, improvisation is something that you have to work harder on if it's not your talent to begin with. I don't have perfect pitch, and I'm still not creative enough when improvising. I do know my notes, and my music theory, but as you can see, I still cannot apply all of those straight away on the guitar.
Ever since I graduated in 2017, I completely lost the fire within me to improve, and I'm putting these series of videos out here (starting July 2, 2020) to push myself to practice more and prove that you can always learn a new skill with enough dedication.
Improvisations starts at 1:15

Great work 🤙
Thank you so much! 😀🍻
Kamangha-manghang video! 🎙 🎵💙I would have great pleasure of knowing your opinion about my content, I have several blues... I think there are some you will like.
I was looking for tutorials of this, salamat po!
Hala, you’re welcome po! 😅❤️
Can someone make a tab for this
Such a vibey song 😍 Love your dedication to learning to play by ear, it's a great idea to upload videos to keep you on track. I also play along to music by ear on piano! Has been my main musical strength since I was young. Unfortunately, did not make good use of it for most of my teenaged years, but I'm playing along to music every day now and am steadily improving my improvisational skills! Playing melodies and harmonies come pretty easy to me but I haven't yet nailed playing chords on the fly. It's such a freeing feeling to play by ear though, kudos to you!
Hey thank you so much! 😅 I still have a long way to go and I never really had good ears even after taking my degree in classical guitar. Because a lot of times in classical music, you just really need to read and play the notes 😅 It’s only when I started trying to transition to electric guitar that I realized I really do have bad ears 😅 it’s just all about the grind 💪 and I’m glad to hear you’re also practicing everyday! 🍻
Heck yeah brother this sounds really good man
Thanks man! 😀🍻
Chris i'm so sorry to hear about your loss🙏🏻🙏🏻 but once again u helping me to find this beautiful song chord, it's been a loong time a go and extremely busy with what i'm doing hahaha and here i'm, thank you so much chris you're a good men🙇🏽♀️🙇🏽♀️
Hey thanks man! It’s quite amazing that you still went back and looked into this video after a year 😅 it’s great to hear back from you and I hope I was able to help you through this video 😀 Cheers! 🍻
Hard working man! Bravo. Same with me but I still stayed in around 400 days. By the way what’s the document you used to study can you share with us?
Hey man thank you so much!🙇♂️ I still have a very long way to go 😅 Honestly, it’s just mostly any videos I can find here on yt, from Jens Larsen, to Tom Quayle, or Robbie Barnby, to Tomo Fujita etc.. I also do have the Jazz Guitar Method by Jody Fisher which I try to read from time to time. Other than that, it’s still just mostly grinding😅 More power to you man, and I hope you can still go further beyond than your 400 days 🍻
@ thanks buddy. I’ll try
Hey thanks man this sounds amazing thanks again for this keep it up man
You’re welcome! 👍😀🍻
Hey man amazing again man I hate to sound like one of those that ask to much but could you play cowgirl for charismas by drake millligan
Hey man! No worries. So sorry also if I haven’t done your first request. This Cowgirl For Christmas seems to be fun and quite timely 😀 Sure man, I’ll do that song this week 👍🍻
@ thanks man appreciate it
The video is up man. Enjoy 😀🍻
Thank you man!!!
You’re welcome! 😀🍻
I love that u still haven't been discourage I watch your videos sometimes to see what I can become and wow ive got a really long way to go and im excited to become like you one day man well done
Thank you so much! Kind words like yours helps me a lot with my sanity, but the mean ones, instead of being discouraged, are the ones that really helps me to push even more 😅 I still have a long way to go too! Just keep pushing man. Eventually it will accumulate into something 💪 see you at the peak! 😀🍻
Thank you , chords worked perfectly. Can you teach solo at the end ?
Top tier good at what you do 100% for real is there any way you could play love song for a dead man
Hey thanks man! I’ll see what I can do for my next week’s ear training 😅👍
@ your welcome and thanks man appreciate it
Smoooooooth
Thank you! ❤️😅
I would love tabs for this if you could!
Agreed
Good job Bro! Try, "Save Me". I really like ''Hero".
Thank you! I’ll give “Save Me” a shot this week 👍 Hopefully I can handle it 😅
I'm basically you but nowhere near as good as to have a degree in classical music but I only achieved grade 8 in classical a couple of years back. I have the exact same problem as you used to have, never learning improv so when people ask me to jam I am much worse than i seem. I also didn't fee like a musician because although i can sight read sheet music, play melodies by ear etc, if someone asked to jam with me i couldn't do it without sounding like ass. Ironic enough this situation of someone asking to jam with me is what made me realise why I wanted to learn guitar. I am currently around this stage you are in this video and thought there was some specific info or theory I was missing but seeing your most recent video has just made me realise it really is just as simple as putting the work in each day and staying consistent.
Hey man, you nailed it. Even though I have a degree in classical guitar, I was also still feeling like as if I still cannot play what I want. The discipline is just different, and that’s why I started trying to practice and learn how to improvise. There are some times that some people still think too little of me and expect so much because of my degree and how much days/hours and videos I have posted here on yt. But the point of my videos is not to show off, but to show to everyone that no matter how small my improvements are every video, as long as I keep going and stay consistent, eventually it will accumulate to something. I’m hoping for your “Day 1” soon man! I’m sure you can do it 🍻
Sounds amazing! Keep it up man!
Hey man thank you so much! 🙇♂️ I still have a long way to go 😅 but I really appreciate the kind words 🍻
Nakaka inspire ka Steven, keep it up
Uy potek. Hahaha salamat pre! 😅❤️🙇♂️
Hi! Is there any way you can show the guitar tabs?
Nah you are not focusing on any chord tones. Study the backing track, find the chords, find their triads on the neck and target those on chord changes. Right now it sounds awful sorry buddy. Hope this comment helps, let me know if you want yt resources.
Hey thanks man. I really appreciate the honesty. I never claim that I’m very good at this hence the videos of my practice sessions haha. I’m still trying my best to always hit the chord tones but it has been really quite challenging 😅 Send me those resources man! I’m sure it would be a huge help! 🙇♂️

Thank you so much! 😅 I agree! She is great! 😀
That's sickkk😍
Hello Sir, you do the GREAT job. I'm impressed. I wonder if you could take a look at a song called "Push comes to shove" by Aerosmith. I've been trying to figured the chords out for many years. Best wishes 👍
Hello! Sure man 😀 I’ll see what I can do for next week 👍 Thank you 🍻
please can you learn “by and by” made by fog lake! I love this song
Hey sure! I’ll try give it a shot for my next video next week 👍😀
Good work man... although I am hearing the second chord in the verse as A6sus (which is like DMaj / A)
That chord can also work man 👍 Since this is clearly played by more than one guitar 😀 Thank you! 🍻
you can write the chords plss, awesome job sound exactly the same broo
Great Video! Could you teach us how you strum so well?
Sounds awesome what chord are you playing that uses only the higher strings?
Hi! It’s the same chords as the ones I said in this video 😀 Just simplified, and all you have to do is just press the higher strings from your bar chords 😀
calmmmm
Salamat dude was hoping there would be a tutorial of sorts.
You’re welcome po! So sorry but the point of this video is not really a tutorial for the song 😅 but just really an ear training for me and just sharing what l did 😅
Just saw this thank you sounds amazing
You’re welcome, man! I’m glad I was able to help 👍😀
Never stop
I will not. Thank you! 🙇♂️
hello! back at an ungodly hour, but I found this out while listening to the chords myself! Please consider the following chords on your next listen--I think they're closer to the song. I hope this helps cus it also took me some time! My main chord suggestions happen in the Choruses and the Instrumental after the bridge part that goes Bm7 , C#m7 , Dmaj7 , E7. There's a small change at the bottom of this comment that isn't as big a deal as the changes in the chorus and especially the instrumental. Enjoy! Chorus: E , Gmaj7 E Gmaj7, A E , Gmaj7 E Gmaj7 A Verse: Bm7... You'll see that the chorus chords lead up nicely to the Bm7. The E to G to A to B movement in the bass. Instrumental (of nature's ways): Gmaj7 , Amaj7 Gmaj7 , Amaj7 Gmaj7 , F#m7 , Em7 , F#m7 F7 The distinct part here is the movement in the bass; listen for it. It should go G, F#, E, F# and lead you to that nice Dominant F7 before the final verse. Last Verse : Bm7... Also, consider changing the bass note in the section right before Chorus. 16:38 is the timestamp of what I mean, you could go from F#m7 --> F#m7/C#. Or F#m7 without the bass (so you make the fifth of the chord the root). I also distinctly hear a little hammer-on going from open A --> that C#. So maybe it's better to think of the timestamp as F#m7 --> A/C#. Importantly, these chord changes happen *every* time before the start of a new verse or leading you to chorus. Thanks again and questions encouraged! I love ear training
Oh wow! Hey thank you so much for this, man! I’ll check these suggestions and corrections out once I have the time. I’ll pin this comment of yours also so others can choose whichever sounds better for them! 😀 cheers! 🍻
Good job, Steven!!! It sounds great!!!! 🎧😎🎸🎶🎙
