A computer enthusiast upgrading, refurbing and building from scratch PCs. Follow my journey from never having opened a PC as I learn the various lessons and pit falls along the way.
It all started after I bought my son a cheap computer, and he started to complain that he couldn't play various esports games. I had to do a bit of research due to his computer being a Small Form Factor, eventually upgrading his computer with a 1050TI, after watching videos showing how easy it was. Following that I upgraded the graphics card in my own computer and added an SSD, again I needed research as my PC had very small space inside.
After that I decided I quite liked this, and would love to get to the point where I was building PCs, and so the journey began. So far I've built over 40 PCs, and most of them have benchmarking videos on this channel where you can see what performance they get in various games.

When you build many PCs, occasionally a buyer comes back to me when they are looking for an upgrade, and in such cases sometimes they sell their original purchase back to me. This is what happened with this PC.
The buyer had changed the PC, but I reverted it back to a GTX 970 which it originally had (although a different model).
The original PC has the following playlist of videos:

i have the same cpu. i dont have a gpu currently, which gpus would u recommend
Good build. One doesn't need big money to have a good time PC gaming.
Its crazy the price to performance you get
Check the task manager please if i use 3d resolution 10]% i haber 72% of memory ussage and i have the same specs buth with gtx 1650 super
RAM usage was just over 11GB which would be 69% ram usage. Nothing to worry at that level of ram usage, the system should be completely stable.
"What percentage of memory does Fortnite use with that resolution? I had to use 55% of 3D resolution in Fortnite to prevent it from using too much RAM."
RAM usage was just over 11GB, Fortnite ram usage has been increasing over the last few years. The RAM usage can be seen in the MSI Afterburner overlay on the left side of the screen. I don't think the 3D resolution will effect ram usage that much, but will significantly reduce the GPU usage. VRAM (the ram on the GPU) started at 2.6GB but rose to just over 3.0GB by the end of the match. I was playing at 1080p resolution, what resolution are you playing at ?
Not 1 comment? Let alone no one mentioning it going from 170 ish fps to a whopping 50 fps because nanite geometry? Shizzle sucks i need a upgrade lol
Yeah, the higher settings in fortnite is effectively ray tracing options now which smashes performance. Personally I don't turn them on when playing on my own PC. Thanks for the comment.
Thanks bro
what's your overclock settings? we have a very similar setup except I have a GTX 960. it would be much appreciated as I am unable to play fornite with the amont of choppy game play. also my pc Has a CPU: Intel i5-4690k Ram: 16GB ram @ 1800mhz Motherboard: ASUS Z97-K Boot Drive: 240GB CRUCIAL SSD GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 960 PLEASE HELP
I put the CPU Voltage to 1.275, set the CPU ratio to 45, and set the turbo type to Fixed so the CPU clock stays at 4.5Ghz rather than moving based on usage.
How do you get no stutters and no lag? I need some help I get some ladspikes here and there and I dont know why
This CPU was overclocked to run a bit faster than stock, plus I play on Pro settings (everything on low, except View distance). Also Fortnite always has a bit of stutter the first couple of games each day you play which normally resolves itself by the 2nd or 3rd match. If you're still having issues I would suggest moving to Performance mode and capping the framerate to 120. Fortnite at low settings is very CPU reliant, you'll see in this video even through the CPU had a decent overclock it was still maxed out while playing. Hopefully something in the above 2 paragraohs helps, but if not it may be time for a cpu upgrade.
Wow, I just stumbled upon this video while also having the same specs, an i7-10700 and an RTX 2060. Great stuff dude
hey can you do the same configuration with the same game but in performance setting's
Thanks for watching and leaving a comment, but unfortunately this PC was sold shortly after this video was published
Can you try low settings on 720p?
Unfortunately I don't keep the PCs. This PC would have been listed on facebook marketplace and sold shortly after all the videos on this PC were uploaded. Looking at the video it was CPU bottlenecked, so reducing the resolution to 720p would have a negligible if any effect on the fps. Reducing the settings from Max to Low would have an impact as some of the settings would lower the load on the CPU.
@@rmgaminguk7079 its okay! have a great day!
Im in the process of buying a motherboard and cpu to build a budget pc out of old pcs i have laying around. Most ads i've found offer with ram and the ones i've been looking at comes with the same pcu (i5 4670k). I will pair this up with a 750w psu, 960gtx gpu and an kingston ssd. What difference would i notice if i upgraded from 16 to 32gb ram and are different types of ram compatible with eachother? Also i have 3 different chassies, one big one medium and one small. what would the pros/cons be between the different sizes?
To be able to overclock the cpu like I have you will need a Z series motherboard. Many older games will still use all the cores of this old i5 so being able to overclock brings real gains. As an alternative look for the i7-4770k, not as expensive as the i7-4790k but will give nearly the same performance. To get on a ddr4 platform lso look for an i7-6700k cpu and motherboard. Shouldn't be much more and the newer architecture and faster ram will help performance.. A 750 watt PSU will be more than enough for any reasonable GPU you'll be pairing the CPU with, easily enough for the GTX 960. If you can afford a slightly more expensive gpu try to get the gtx 970 or the gtx 1060 6gb, both of which should be well under £80 and be not much more than the gtx 970. While all these gpus will be fine for valorant, I would check out my other benchmark videos to see how they perform in slightly more demanding games. In reality you won't see any performance difference going up to 32gb of ram. If you look at my benchmark videos I was always way under 16gb of ram usage. With a modern system, playing the most recent games at High or Ultra settings maybe you may then need more than 16gb. On ram you should look for at least 1600mhz speed. I have encountered issues with slower ram. As an alternative look at your local facebook marketplace and even ebay for fully build PCs, you may find you're able to find a much better spec for the cost it will be to assemble a budget PC separately. Best of luck with your build and/or search.
Thank you for your answer. I found that buyìng parts and build seeems cheaper. Might actually build two, one ddr3 and one ddr4 my buddy had a better gpu and a water cooling system but that will happend later for now ddr and 960gtx will have to do ;)
the msi gtx 1050Ti is it low profile gpu?
Yes it a low profile card, there are sone standard sized gtx 1050Ti's but only a low profile one would fit in this Dell Optiplex. You can see the GPU in the case on the slide at 30 seconds into the video. Thanks for watching and commenting.
@@rmgaminguk7079 ooh i see, thanks man appreciate the video✨✨
Bro what do u suggest i7-4790 or i5-7500? Pls tell
Those two cpus are very close, and to be honest I would recommend neither and try to get a faster cpu. The i5-7500 has marginally faster per core speed, but the hyperthreading on the i7-4790 will give it the edge as all threads will be heavily utilised (as shown in this video). The average frame will not be much different but I suspect the 1% low framerates will be better with the i7 despite it being older. If you have a Z series motherboard for either platform I will go with that and get a k series cpu. While the i7-4790k is definitely overpriced on the 2nd hand market the i7-4770k can sometimes be found. For the 7th gen platform if you have a Z series motherboard the i7-6700k can normally be picked up at a good price. Both k series cpu should be easy to overclock to 4.5Ghz which will really help performance. While the i7-4790 cpu would be better, if you only have these options I would actually go with the i5-7500 because you have the option to get the cheap i7-6700 (or i7-6700k) and you are on a more modern platform with ddr4 ram, plus your motherboard might support m.2 nvme drives. However my recommendation if you are choosing between the two is to wait and get something more modern, an i5-8400 at a minimum or ideally an i5-10400 (for 6 cores with 12 threads and faster per core speed). Thanks for watching and the interesting question.
I have a dell Optiplex 790 bios a18 rx 470 4gb 16gb ram I currently have an i7-2600 processor and I would like to improve it and my option is the i7-2600k, do you think it is compatible?
I have the same pc but i only have 100-150 fps and dropping like shit
Valorant is cpu intensive, have you got anything else running on the PC, eg. spotify, discord, other game launchers, monitoring software ? I have a recent clean windows install, and nothing else running apart from geforce experience to record the footage. I would use task manager to see if anything else is using up a significant amount of cpu usage. Hope you find the cause..
My second pc is also an hp Pavillion exactly like that one same case and almost same specs. The only diference is mine has an i7 4770.
I have a question, I have nearly exactly the same pc , the only difference being the cpu. Mine is an i5 4690k , but it's clock speed is 3.89 ghz . How is it that your cpu has a clock of 4.2?
The K series CPUs are overclockable, that is to say if you have a overclockable motherboard you can set the cpu to run at a higher clock speed and if required allow it to draw more power. More power and running at a higher clock speed will lead to more heat and higher tempatures but if done right and you have sufficient cooling it can lead to increaesed performance for negigible risk. However if done bad it can lead to overheating (and it the worse case damaging) the cpu. To overclock a k series cpu you will need to be using a Z series cpu (eg. a Z97 one). Overclocking is a topic too big for a youtube comment, so I recommend that you watch some in-depth youtube videos, in particular ones using your motherboard and cpu. In CPU bound scenarios overclocking can lead to useful increases in fps, and can eliminate or reduce the stutters that are common in cpu bottlenecked scenarios.
Love it! I’m still rocking i7 2600 to play Val😂
Yeah, its a legendary chip, can still high fps in games like Valorant
Pls do pubg pc aswell
why you dont record the gameplay on 50 / 60 fps?
I leave the frame rate uncapped so people can see what performance the PC can do. When playing its definitely an option to cap the frame rate to 60 fps which will reduce any frame rate dips.
can u make video of overclock setting pls
I watched your video you're getting like 170-200 stable fps I have the same specs 16gb and I'm having fps drops i'm getting like 60-90-120 fps what could be the issue?
Valorant is normally an easy game to run. What GPU are you running ? You shouldn't need a powerful for valorant (the one I was using was only being about half used). I would also check t o see if something is not using your CPU in the background. I will close any other apps, such as chrome tabs, spotify, discord, other games launchers (eg. Epic, Steam). Also look at task manager to see if any process is using more than a few percentage of the cpu (eg. a virus could be using up cpu performance). Also check your CPU isn't overheating. If the CPU overheats it will usually downclock (ie. slow its speed) to prevent it overheating further and damaging itself. Use something like HW Info or the MSI Afterburner overlay to monitor temperatures.
Hi, if I would use a 144hz monitor with the same pc specs as yours. would the fps remain at 144hz on my game? I'm new to pc building
Your monitor will be able to display 144 frames a second, in the game if you limited the frame rate to 144 fps it will stick to 144 frame per second. Even if you don't limit the frame rate, when the PC is capable to displaying more frames than 144, the monitor will only be able to display 144 frames, so in that case its best to limit the frame rate to 144. As well as telling the game to limit the frame rate to 144 you can tell the came to turn on vsync this will tell it to limit the frame rate to what you monitor can display. Thanks for watching, and for the question.

I7 4790k price? Pls tell
I find i7-4790k's to be too expensive when they are for sale separately. I tend to look our for them in combos with the motherboard or in older gaming PCs that someone is getting rid of. In this case it was someone local to me who had upgraded, so I bought the CPU, RAM & Motherboard all together in an ebay auction for £85. I occasionally look for local pickup only ebay auctions, because they tend to go under the radar as most people on ebay are looking to have things posted to them.

It's smooth without recordings?
Hey im using the same build however the cpu is at stock speed and only 8gb of 1333mhz ram, on siege it stutters alot even on 720p!
I'm surprised the ram would make that much difference, as this PC was only using just over 6gb of ram. Its worth checking to see what else in running in the background, and to see what you ram usage is. If there are things running in the background it could mean you are running out of ram leading to the stutters. Thanks for watching.

Nice
Did you need to change the power supply to be able to use the gtx 1050 ti?
No, the 1050ti doesn't need any extra power from the power supply and gets all the power it need from the connection to the motherboard which can supply it with up to 75 watts. It's one of the things that makes the 1050ti and 1650 (non super) so great for upgrading office PCs. Thanks for watching and your great question.
@@rmgaminguk7079 thank you my friend !
how big difference between i7 4790 vs non s 4790
It's a very small difference. The S version has a lower base clock but the turbo speed (ie. the speed it would go up to under load) was the same. The S version was also had a lower power usage. I didn't really notice any difference, plus it would only come up in CPU bound scenarios. Looking at the Passmark comparison website (www.cpubenchmark.net/compare/2226vs2258/Intel-i7-4790-vs-Intel-i7-4790S) it's showed a 1.4% difference in single core speed and a 3.4% difference in all core workloads. A difference that would be unnoticeable. Thanks for watching the video and leaving a comment

No I didn't. The old dell optiplexes came with good quality PSUs, the main issue being that they would have low wattage. The 1050ti doesn't need any extra power from the PSU and the i7 wasn't overclocked (it couldn't be on the dell motherboard) so the existing PSU was fine.
This is my exact setup bro and it work pefectly fine
Спасибо
the game is yust poor optimized they really need to put some work on the performence of the game like come if they can make it run on xbox one the big let down is the water it eats alot of fps and other effects
Yeah, its definitely the game I see most people on forums and facebook groups asking for advise on how to improve performance.
Bro rlly bought the perfect pc for forza 💀
Thanks, it did really work out well.
@@rmgaminguk7079 can you record in 60fps in ur vids next time
Do you have anything overclocked ? With these specs
Unfortunately I don't have any videos uploaded I remember the FX CPU always had great headroom to overclock the two FX 8350 CPUs I've had both overclocked over 4.5Ghz, I remember one went to a stable 4.7Ghz. This overclock really helped the frame rate and allowed the FX chip to compete with a locked i5 4th generation CPU. I would still take an unlocked 4th gen i5 or i7 over the FX 8000 series.
Lmao this is my exact my configuration! Funny how back in 2015 this was the top gaming pc you could build; today is begging to feel its age, lowering quality on new titles
Considering that's 8 years ago now I'm impressed it's still doing so well. I think the CPU could keep up with a faster GPU in sole games. I've temporarily put a 1660 Super in the PC to see what effect it has. Should be a decent uplift in any game that was GPU bottlenecked. How are you finding your PC ? Thinking of an upgrade or does it do everything you want ? Thanks for watching and commenting.
@@rmgaminguk7079 i did some bottleneck tests and seems like the gpu is slowing the cpu you're right. After all, it's just 3.5 vram so should be upgraded to a new 8 or 11gb at least. the cpu could still work if cooled well, in my case it's about 90-100° C under load 💀 pretty stressed but still manages to gain good fps. however as it's so old it has no reason to be upgraded. as you change the gpu then the cpu could give bottleneck, if you change cpu then you gotta change motherboard and rams too. it's a new pc then lol
@@simoschv I was thinking something inbetween the 970 and something new, such as a second hand 1660 super could be worth it to extend the life of the PC. However you're right in that anything more powerful and you should build a new PC from scratch or buy a new one.
I am getting 85 fps on same exact specs on high settings what do i do?
Even on high settings Valorant is CPU bottlenecked, so I would first look to your CPU to see if anything effecting its performance. Have you got anything else running in the background ? When I record these videos I have nothing running except the Valorant launcher, MSI Afterburner and Riva tuner (for the onscreen stats) and Nvidia Experience to record the gameplay, Other launchers looking for updates or downloading updates, Windows virus checker doing a scan, or Windows update downloading updates can all effect performance, as well as virus' doing background work. Next I would to see if you CPU is running at the expected speed. Check to ensure that the CPU is not down-clocking because it is overheating. I would use something like HWMonitor to check temps as you game. I like the feature that it shows maximum stats (ie. temp) as well as current and average, rather than having to look at the real time stats while gaming. Although the CPU is the main limiter for Valorant performance its worth checking the GPU is working ok. If the system is somehow using integrated graphics rather than your GPU that would also lower temps. Again look for GPU temps to make sure its not overheating and down-clocking the GPU speed. Hope some of this helps find the issue for you. Thanks for watching the video.
@@rmgaminguk7079 cpu is running at 80 to 90% but gpu only 20 to 40%
@@simules3530 That's roughly what I would expect playing valorant. Have you checked Task Manager to see if anything else is running in the background ? It's worth checking the CPU temps to see if its overheating and down-clocking.
@@rmgaminguk7079 nothing is running in background except the windows services
Thanks for this video! I actually ordered a Dell optiplex build from these TH-camrs I like called toasty bros, I plan on upgrading it (or making a new one) as I go along since I don't know much about PCs just yet. The description of the video gave me a lot ideas.
Glad I could help. I watch the Toasty Bros videos a lot myself, they know their stuff. When it comes to upgrading, it's worth watching a video where someone has upgraded your exact model. Dell has changed overtime what can be upgraded and what non-standard connectors they use. The Dell Optiplexes are still a good option for upgrading the ram to 16gb and slapping a GPU that will work to get a vert cost effective budget gaming PC.
*graphics not graphical
yeah rocket league has an easy time getting 120+ frames, if you turned down the ingame setting too you can probably get easily 200+ as well
While the i5-11400 will be 5-10% faster than the i5-10400, the GTX 1660 Super will be much much faster than the GTX 1650. The 1650 is more for office machines as it doesn't need supplimentary power from the power supply. The website techpowerup rates the 1660 Super as 68% faster than the 1650 which you would see come through to much greater performance in games. Thanks for watching and commenting.
I m surprise for it BE able to Run actually Apex Legends as someone who already okay with 1050 ik it is playable for someone who is not used for high frame rate, people used to low fps ONLY become unplayable when the game starts freezing for complet but its playable and able to enjoy
Yes, once you lower the settings to medium/low its more the playable and a pleasant experience. Thanks for watching and commenting.
