Brief shot of a passing train in Kanchanaburi province in Thailand. This cutting is about 7 km from the famous bridge over the river Kwai and part of the Thai-Burmese death railway, where during WW2 over 100,000 people including Australian prisoners of war died building the railway at the hands of the Japanese army. Take a look at the cutting in this video - cut through solid rock by war prison...

    Hello, I have another question about elevator surfing, Just out of curiosity what's the sentence if you get caught surfing an elevator in Australia ?

    • @CraigCanberra
      @CraigCanberra 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      There's no fixed penalty. If the building people called the cops then the cops would probably try and work out what offences had been committed. They might be able to get you for trespass but that could be tricky if you were in the building with permission (even though you clearly had no permission to be on top of the lift!). If they could pin trespass on you, the penalty would be up to the magistrate's court. There'd probably be a fine. What country are you in?

    • @psirvent8
      @psirvent8 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CraigCanberra I'm from France and finding information about the laws regarding either trespass or lift surfing has proven to be... well, impossible to me so far. Every time I surf a lift I get quite anxious about being caught, particularily when exiting the cartop, and potentially facing someone waiting for the lift. It has indeed occured to me a couple time, but fortulately the people that saw me exiting the cartop were quite friendly and most importantly I was not on my own, I think otherwise I might have gotten into trouble. Now I'm on my own and that makes surfing lifts much more difficult to me, in fact the last time I did surf one was probably something like 2 years ago. (I'm a bit like Beno except I don't upload anything). Find someone to go alonw with me surfing lifts is currently the biggest struggle I'm facing about that.

    • @CraigCanberra
      @CraigCanberra ปีที่แล้ว

      Suggestion: wear a high-vis vest (you know, the ones that road workers etc. wear) and carry a clipboard. If you're wearing a worker's vest and carrying paperwork, you'll look like you should be there. It is even better if you look very confident and don't look surprised or like you shouldn't be there. Once you've exited the lift, take the vest off so that you don't confuse other people in the building!

    • @CraigCanberra
      @CraigCanberra ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't usually take people with me. I can manage my own safety but I can't stop someone else suddenly doing something stupid and getting injured. However, I have taken someone with me sometimes, just to impress them! But I will never ever give them a key or let them go on their own. Never.

  • @psirvent8
    @psirvent8 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Were you surfing the lift or there was a glass window on the top for passengers to see the shaft from the car ?

    • @CraigCanberra
      @CraigCanberra 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      There was no glass ceiling. This was surfing on top of the elevator car, a practice extremely dangerous if one isn't properly trained. Most folk think that the only danger is falling off the car down the shaft, but no, there are other hidden dangers, including moving cables (so losing your hand on the pulley) and, most dangerous of all, the counterweight going in the opposite direction as the car, which can take your head off! Trained personnel only!

    • @psirvent8
      @psirvent8 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CraigCanberra Thank you for the reply. Yeah I know the dangers since I'm also a lift surfer. In fact I only surf in inspection, not in normal like you did in this video and that is for safety.

    • @CraigCanberra
      @CraigCanberra 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@psirvent8 Respect man. I appreciate your attention to safety. I can't understand why lift companies make the landing door release locks so insecure. Years ago some of them required a key which when turned exposed the hole to insert the lever but these days even they're gone - they only need the lever these days. Bizarre. And what happened to trapdoors in the car ceilings? They're gone now too.

      Well James, for starters, I wasn't asked to stop filming. I don't know where you got that idea from. I filmed freely and stopped when I chose to. Secondly, it's a public area and there are no restrictions on filming there. There ARE restrictions in customs and immigration areas for international flights but this very full overcrowded waiting area was not one of them. So your facts are indeed fiction. I believe you sir are the numbskull.
