"Elevator 2"
This piece recently came back from a gallery so I thought I’d share some new video of it. It’s called “Elevator 2” and it features some of the objects that you might have seen in my regular posts.

DIY Pepper's Ghost 2024
มุมมอง 1.6K3 หลายเดือนก่อน
Last year, I made a post about how to make a “Pepper’s Ghost” reflection illusion using just a phone and plastic dome drink lid. I’ve recently created templates for the correct shape of plastic that goes inside the lid. Hopefully, this makes it a little easier for people to try out this demo. You can find the templates and a video to test out the effect here: ellingson.notion.site/Rubber-Ducky-...

Doggie Diner
มุมมอง 1914 หลายเดือนก่อน
In this experiment, a Doggie Diner mascot travels between a sideways television and a dome to the tune of “Let’s All Go To The Lobby”. Doggie Diner (1948-1986) was a beloved Bay Area fast food chain. It’s long gone but its endearing dachshund mascot remains an iconic symbol of all things absurd and interesting in the San Francisco. Art instigator and all-around hero @johnwilliamlaw has three or...

Here are some clips from Audible’s footage from the making of the visual trailer for their audio production of George Orwell’s “1984”. "1984" Theatrical Ad for Audible
มุมมอง 27K5 หลายเดือนก่อน
I helped create this ad for Audible’s new adaptation of George Orwell’s “1984”. It’s the result of a collaboration between Territory Studio, director James Medcraft, and Alphabetical Studio. Alphabetical found my work online and thought I would be a good fit as a Key Artist for the project. We re-imagined the novel’s “telescreen” devices as all-watching bubble domes, worked with real cathode ra...

Wednesday Night AV Dance Party

Wednesday night synthesizering with a vintage Jet National commercial, a sample from an RCA stereo promo film, and some oscilloscope graphics. The images in the dome are produced with a technique called “Pepper’s Ghost”, which is a reflection effect commonly used in film, theme parks, and stage shows. It dates back to the later 1800s, which is why it has that old-timey name. I’m manipulating th...
Video Wall Demo

Each of my projects is different, but here’s a brief post that might help answer questions about how I span video across many different displays. In this eight monitor setup, I’m dividing the top four monitors and the bottom four monitors between two 2x2 video wall controllers. Each of the video wall controllers splits the signal into four HDMI outputs which I then run into four HDMI-to-analog ...

Triple "Pepper's Ghost" with Theremin
Thank youuy
So ironic considering who's making it
Is a container necessary? Can't you just use a reflector?
Another question: is the dome necessary? Can you get the same effect without using one?
I've tried several times to use clear plastic at a 45 degree angle to create this illusion, but although I can create a reflection with it, the reflection is so obvious you can tell what's happening, and destroys the effect. How do you manage to make yours so effective? Do you green screen out anything but the central image first before you project it onto the clear plastic?
I usually film things with a black background because anything black appears transparent in a "Pepper's Ghost" reflection illusion. Filming with a better camera than a phone also helps, if you can get access to one. Hope that helps.
@@ellingsonTV, Thanks, that tells me exactly what I needed to know. I wonder if there is a library of such videos where the subject is recorded against a black background?
its so good
just shared a half dozen of your vids.... i love your work...
so epic.... great movement and dance between the audio and visual on this one...
waiting for you to get into oscilloscopes too... or maybe you already have and i havent seen it yet... big fun.... it's also fun to circuit bend your crt tv's/monitors into oscilloscope visualizers.... but i have found over the years that some kind of fizzle out if you dont have proper impedance loads etc... so i've switched to dedicated oscilloscopes but they arent as big of a display
scratching my head wondering how u get the tv to display sideways lol
a real artist doesnt hide his processes... you'll be off to inventing new things while you let others explore your processes.... wonderful... very generous indeed
are you using rf modulators to broadcast signal to the old tv?
i love a magician that doesnt mind exposing his tricks and an artist that shares his process secrets... a fb friend tagged me on one of your reels and a week later i found your yt page... brilliant... subscribed and sharing
i love your work and wish we could collaborate... another option to connect to this device would possibly be an rf modulator ... ?
so glad i found your work... profound.... i love it
That's cool man, thanks for making this video.
Hi Josh! Got a very similar TV. When I have connected everything up the display will rotate from up to down? I feel like i have tried everything to fix it, any help would be so appreciated, Thanks!
Hi. That sounds like an issue with the vertical hold. If there's a "V-Hold" knob or dial somewhere on your set, you can slowly adjust it until it pops into place. The dial might appear as just a plastic stem on the back of the TV that you can turn. If you've already tried the "V-hold" control, it could be that the capacitor on the verical hold circuit is bad. You might look into how to "recap" the board or just buy a new TV, if that's the case. Best of luck!
Hey Joshua! I’m just now catching onto Pepper’s Ghost and I think this is so cool. I’ve watched your tutorials but I don’t think you mentioned how you made this type of pepper’s ghost. Can you tell me how you made the fish transfer from the tv to the bell jar?
I have this
this video lives rent free in my head and i wish to show it to many more people

I’m getting a vibe of the 1980’s Apple commercial and the mobile game Vector and video game of Inside all combined together.
Well this is supposed to be a movie but tks to winny some people it got cancelled
Well there’s already a 1984 movie, this was originally supposed to be like a sequel or a reboot?

This was an incredible adaptation. I was familiar with the themes of the source material but wasn’t aware of exactly how horrifying the plot gets. I planned on going to sleep listening, I ended up staying up half the night just shook to the core. Amazing performances and sound engineering. Just don’t expect it to be a bedtime story 😅

Amazing that the image scrolls past all the screens up and down and then to the top flat screen aka dome. I imagine some sort of video editing is required and video multi out switcher or something. Regardless, this is a great illusion. Also I love the electromagnetic glitch effect that not only affects the video but audio. Well done 👍🏼
I wish this was a movie
There’s already a 1984 movie

This is truly terrifying, this exactly what the democrats want.
Like which Democrat policies will make the US Orwellian?
Good example of blatantly misunderstanding everything. Reducing good commentary to team sports like yours doesn’t wanna see you bleed

This is where we are heading as a society. A government who believes they know what's best for society, a government that twists everything so that you will believe them, and punish you if you don't. And finally, the WEF, who have admitted at numerous Davis conferences, that they are close to perfecting technology that can track all human movements at any time! COMRADES, THIS IS BIG BROTHER. AND I AM ALWAYS WATCHING... CONRADES, THIS IS THE WEF, AND WE ARE ALWAYS WATCHING...

Unfortunately my simple crt tv doesn't work with the hdmi converter. It's a simple scart output. So annoying
