I served at the Naval Hospital further up above Cubi from 67 to 69. We treated Vietnam casualties. It was from Cubi point that I took a 8mm film of the USS Saratoga puling into Subic still on fire. I think it was the Saratoga. The ship John Glens plane ignited all the bombs on deck. Lots of casualties from that one. I would have liked to see if the old Hospital bldgs were still there or did the jungle eat them ?

I was at Upper MAU Camp and Jest School with BLT 1/9 in late 1973. Most of those buildings look more modern than our Quonset hut camp. We had cold water showers and trough toilets, a small PX hut and a grassy hill side for movies. Funniest thing was watching Merrill's Marauders with a live monkey fight going on in the trees and on the plywood screen. So typical of everywhere the US departs, they loot and then it rots.

I expect this siren is a dual toned 16v2t since there is a Sentry 16v2t in Ologapo

I was there last February because my retired Marine buddies asked me to check our their old quanset huts barracks. I made it up there took a few photos but had to get on the road. I will be back again next year, Hoping to get a map of the camp then.

How times have changed ,I spent about 3 months there in 1977 with 2nd Battalion 4th Marine

I remember seeing Arachnophobia in that theatre.The movies there came out about a year after they were released in the US

Nice trip down memory lane. VMFA 122 1969 i think. Did you happen to see if the rope swing is still on that big tree next to the lower huts?. W. B. Bright spent 2 days on top of the hut trying to throw the rope over. Finally we would swing out into the jungle. Lots of fond memories. My Filipina wife and i went back there 3 years ago. So sad to see, I remember her in her golden days. Now we are headed back, investing millions over the entire country. Should have let us stay, that would have kept the PLN away.

When the Americans were here you cannot see tall grasses, you only see manicured lawns, well kept barracks, forested areas, and well kept white colored houses. As soon as the Philippines took over the facility maintenance just flew out of the window. I just think that it is not the government's priority to beautify and maintain these facilities.

Subic-Cubi Pt. was the most 2 beautiful bases in the world. How sad that they didn't keep it up and Clark Air Base wasn't chopped liver either.

Was at Osan 1985 to 1988. Wow, Aragon Alley brought back some fond memories of Cherry Boy Barbeque (best barbeque chicken ever), Skinny Mom's Club, and of course, the Aragon Club at the bottom of the alley. Would like to go back some day just for grins and see how much the town (and base) has changed.

Know them streets well 😀 In 76 to 77 i was assigned in Cubi Pt but sent permanent TDY to the Armed Forces Police which was located just to the left (parking lot there now) of the main gate as you exited Subic Base and just before walking over the world famous sh!t river bridge as it was called. I was assigned as a city town unit meaning I was assigned to patrol every street in Olongapo with a Philippine Constabulary officer as my partner, and that meant main drags as well as every side street and alley. My very first day I was finally on my own and a fleet sailor as my partner, a call went over the radio of a riot in beat 3 which was called the "jungle" area (end of magsaysay on the left side) and all units including on base units were sent to break up the riot except me as i was the rookie. Not 10 mins later I'm called into HQ code 3 using lights and siren to pick up an M-16 and belt ammo to take it to a local police officer who was standing by. So by the time i pick up the weapon and scream down magsaysay drive to get there, there's nothing but a-holes and elbows and fights all over the damn place with sailors and marines and locals all going at it and no local cops in sight to hand over the weapon to. So in my young mind, i said screw it and fired off a few rounds pointed over the buildings and towards the water area and low and behold people started scattering like wild cats and i finally see a few of my armed forces police partners scramble to safety and it was over as fast as it started. Needless to say, i was a hero for a minute or two, but the next day was called on the carpet for firing off the rounds and almost causing an international incident or so they said. So after getting my a$$ chewed, the chief of police laughed and told me he would have done the same thing had it been him. I was promoted the next day to a city wide and entire province patrol unit hahaha. Sure miss the old days 🥲
