Against The Current - Featuring Stacy Peralta
"Against The Current," is a short film documenting the artistic process of the legendary Skateboarder and Filmmaker, Stacy Peralta. Made in conjunction with his art show debuting at CCC gallery this fall and directed by Dana Shaw, it’s not just a love letter to a life of skateboarding but a celebration of the spirit of creativity and commitment.
Stacy shares his various inspirations from childhood to present day, and the challenges and lessons learned while working to develop this new visual language in his iterations of these tools of joy from the past.
The work also explores his temporal and obsessive relationship to the skateboard collection that intrinsically holds the memories of those ephemeral halcyon days. As well as the decay and degradation that entropy and time have on our prized possessions, and even ourselves.
Stacy’s show opens on October 19th 2024 on the central coast of California, with a follow up show in downtown Los Angeles in late December.

How'd you get into gyrating?
Legend and amazing painting
That left handed Les Paul Custom. He’s right handed though. 🤔 Might not be his.
This is awesome Stacy!!! Although I would think it would be impossible for you to be a kook ,your style is absolute perfection. You inspire and influence me heavily and positively. Those paintings are great
This is the most beautiful thing ive witnessed in a long time. Thank you to Stacy Peralta for leading me back to seeing the beauty in the world again

This is so inspiring; I've dedicated part of my life to painting and writing, and I always denied myself the fact I love skateboarding since high school... now is the time. Thank you, really.
Truly inspiring stuff.
Stacey Peralta is one of my favorite documentary filmmakers. full stop. And in these 10 minutes I feel you captured some of that magic. thank you.
I just learned how to skateboard at 54 so yes what this guy says, do that!
Of course he’s left handed.
what a legend
Love it! It reminds me also of a phrase with which I live by, which is to allow yourself to be a beginner and to have a beginner's mindset. This opens up the wonder and creativity, as well as the excitement of the new. Keep on rolling!
#KookLife

This man is a great source of inspiration
i love this so much
This was much more inspirational than endless reminiscent gab over the good old days re: the z-boys.
Those fiberglass Zephyr skateboards were freakin heavy.
I had Roller Sport Urethane wheels as a kid. They were really good.

I was playing professionally as a keyboard player in the early 80s in wash. Virginia and Maryland and moved to Encinitas, like 86 and started skating with two brothers, local Brazilian shredders that were my friends, my biggest accomplishment was doing a 180 on a vertical wall,a mini tom carrol on a 50 foot face, and felt such a sense of accomplishment, later in Encinitas, l was playing keyboards, guitar and bass locally while doing surf board repair with " the ding king" with bob and bill Bahne ,l was the master of surf board repair....my name was "scary carey"you are nobody if you didn't get name...happy times,l brought anew concept of fiberglass repair with my prior knowledge of drywall using a mixture of chemicals (micro balloon and cabisil) and could turn out repairs that brought their favorite boards back to life, everyone was blown away, l actually changed the industry ,bahne, channen eberly, nector got robbed one day and my repair business was demolished, l left that while the local surf companys were wondering who l was going to work with.the toxicity of the chemicals was the deciding point to leave for good, Later l am kicking back playing jazz piano and somehow l come across this person.. Austin Peralta on piano and l just broke out in such admiration..Tokyo concert as well as the other only remaining performances that are available,l have a picture of me in high school that looks exactly like Austin and you Stacy in these early days, that is so cool, and am a goofy foot left hander...l can not tell how much affirmation l get from knowing your history, Austin was the TomCarrol,80ft. Faces,180 turnarounds of jazz piano,l can see such a beautiful organic manifestation of frequency, Stacy, l will leave you with this.....l am so proud to have any connection to the energy that is our life blood,,l am sorry to ramble on,but l am an outsider,a Kook ,
The first pro skater I believe.
Thank you Stacy P ,you are a true "legend "!
Never forget Stacy sending me a signed letter when i was 12....Now im 60
Absolutely awesome brother!!! Being an artist and surf/skater from the 70s I totally understand where you head is 🤙
Stacy Peralta is to skating what Derek Hynd is to surfing.
He looks like Rocky Dennis out there on the hill looking at the sun
How can Stacey Peralta not have an Indy truck!? Lance send the perfect one though. I had several just like it. Good piece.
thanks for this, a childhood hero is still an inspiration for me pushing 50
This was great! BRAVO!
🔥❤🔥🔥
Thank You !!!!!!!64 year old skater / old man
No G&S?
1975 McCoy fiberglass deck with graphite power run cone bearings, urethane wheels, the bullet down hiller, fastest in my opinion, still got the scares 💪😎
I'm pushing 70. I remember when Cadillac wheels came out. It changed skateboarding.
Hobie brand wheels is crazy
What a treat…an inspiration…a legend…thanks Stacy!
Not dilapidated, well utilized.
