Fairlane RestoMod: Episode 6 - Shock Tower reinforcements
A very unnecessary modification to replicate the BOSS 302 Mustang Shock Tower reinforcements. These are not available for the Fairlane, so I did the best I could fabricating some from 7 gauge steel.

Fairlane RestoMod: Episode 5 - Rust repair
มุมมอง 3.7K2 ปีที่แล้ว
Apologies for the camera pointing at my back so much. When I was grinding on the railroad track, the sparks pretty much melted the front lens on my camera. I had to move it back to prevent any more damage. This was a challenge for sure. If this part could have been sourced from AMD, I most certainly would have gone that route. The only option was to buy two entire quarter panels and that just w...

Floorpan rough install. There is still some finessing to be done when I get to the underside.. mostly pinholes and thin metal. Comments will be in the Closed Captions track Before I get too much scrutiny, I am by no means a sheet metal expert. I wanted to do butt welds to minimize appearance of the repair, so this was first for me. I will defiantly be paying for my lack of skill later when I fi...

This is my first video for the 1967 Fairlane "RestoMod". In a strange turn of events, Colorado requires me to have a VIN inspection to register the car. To do this, I must drive 1.8 miles. I had planned to tear the engine and transmission down before any driving, but that's not how it panned out. I had to make a temporary throttle linkage for this, so don't judge! The new one is in the mail. I ...
1967 Ford Fairlane 500 Restomod | Intro
มุมมอง 8K3 ปีที่แล้ว
This will be a series on the restomod of a well loved 1967 Ford Fairlane 500 fastback. The idea is not to make it a museum piece, rather a renewal of the car. My intention is to drive this car, so modern upgrades are welcome, but with some respect to the design of the original design sensibilities .

      @@rafaelallenblock I did have two rust holes right under the front windows drains (under the cowl i suppose).. I already patched them up. I though it was gonna be quick and trivial, but it was kinda involved.. that said, I didn't film it as I though it was a tiny little repair. I was mistaken! I ended up patching all that with a lap joint after cutting the rusty parts out. I figure that was the best method to keep water going where it should. I did take a few stills.. Other than replacing the carb, what are your plans for the engine? Simple rebuild to factory specs or more power by conenvional means like carb, cam, exhaust, etc?

    • @eythanholladay
      @eythanholladay 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have been all over the map on this one (I should make a video :-) ) - So the current plan is to keep the engine bay stock. This means going with a roller 302 for me. I could have gone 351, but I already have the engine from a 93 F150 now. The block has been taken .020 out, so I think that lands at a 304 CI. The previous owner stated the CR is 9.5:1, but I will need to measure all of that when I start the engine build. I scored a set of nice GT40 3 bar heads with "Omega 1.7" roller rockers, so those will make a nice little bump from the e7 heads that came on the F150 302. The look like they may have a bit of polishing done, but I have not tanked them, so I am not really sure.. they haven't really been cleaned and inspected yet. (Cheers Dave!) Cam wise, I am still waffling.. I am thinking I will go with a E303 or a TF stage 1, converting the roller "ready" block to full roller. For the F150's they were roller blocks with the taller lifter guides & the dogbone retainer bosses, but were fitted with hydraulic flat lifters. The current cam is rumored to be a "hot" truck cam, but the previous owner of the block said many things :-D For fuel delivery, I am still thinking I will stick with the Demon, but I will be adding a return line when I get to re-lining everything. I am at altitude (5000'), so I am strongly considering a EFI system. For the carb, I will be sticking with the cast iron manifold ( c40e-9425-b ) for the moment. If I go EFI, I will likely either build something with EEC parts & a megasquirt or I will just bite it and go with a Pro Flo 4. With the fuel delivery question in flux, I will stick with points for now ( just adding a steel distributor gear to cope with the the hardened gear on the roller cam). If I go with the PF4, that has the intake, TB, manifold, injectors, and the distributor all as one kit. If you are at my starting point, the PF4 works out to be about the same as the Holley Sniper EFI, with the added bonus of "real" injectors in the right place vs the TBI injectors. For the fuel pump, I will likely just fit it with a High pressure unit that will feed any of my EFI desires, and get a return-style regulator. Even if I stick with a carburetor, running a return style regulator will help keep my fuel cool, make tuning a bit more predictable and combat any potential for vapor lock.. not to mention the heavy lifting will already be done if I go EFI.. it would just take swapping the 5-9 regulator out with a 35-75 (or whatever). Header wise, I am leaning toward a 4-2-1 style header vs the 4-1 .. I am still researching this, but for a weekend cruiser, I won't be spending much time above 5000RPM, so the benefits of the 4-1 likely won't be worth the space they take up vs the 4-2-1, but we shall see. I have already received exhaust system. nothing too fancy, 409 stainless steel, 2.5" mandrel bent pipes with Flowmaster super 50 mufflers (.. yeah, I know, not very creative! ) To get it to the road, I have acquired a T5 WC from a 86.5 Mustang GT ( 3.15, 3.35, 1.93, 1.29, 1.0, 0.68 ). I will likely convert to a hydro throw-out, but still undecided. I have a Lakewood scatter shield, so there are rumors the fork gets weird with that setup. The car was an automatic, so I have a fresh canvas for the pedal assembly. I am not a fan of the z-bar, nor am I a fan of the mechanical throttle, so that will all likely get updated. For the rear , I am going disc with the brakes, So I think it makes sense to swap out the 3.00 8" with a 8.8" from an Explorer. I will take what I can find, but I am thinking a 3.73 with a locking diff should fit the bill. 4.10 will also work, but from what I am reading, the only thing I gain is noise on the highway with MARGINAL 0-60 improvements. Braking for the front is also a bit of waffling, but I am currently thinking the Scarebird setup. Off the shelf parts, modestly priced and easy to change my mind later... For other bits, I am torn between serpentine & v-belt. .I have most of the serpentine setup from the f150, but I am a manual steering, no-ac car. I need to see if I have any advantage either way. I am flexible for the radiator, so I have no opinion about outlet side, so either pump will work. It would be nice to go with a modern alternator and scrap the external regulator, so there is that. If all this tumbles into place, the engine bay *should* look very close to stock & I should see 250ish at the wheels.. I may be overestimating, but it will be a decided improvement over the stock 289 / C4 that it rolled out of the factory with. I just want a nice little pull and a nice, classic, not too loud sound. It may or may not get dynoed after all this tinkering is done. Phew! with all that out of the way, I also thought about shoving a Coyote ( or the Engine that cannot be named ) in it! :-D
