Wreck at Laguna Seca Corkscrew NB Miata
มุมมอง 2.9K7 วันที่ผ่านมา
Wrecked in the second lap of the second session after missing the apex at the corkscrew and running over the curb. Lots of different reasons why this happened but ultimately was driving way over my limit and wasn't respecting the track. Sharing this for educational purposes for myself and others.
First Time at Laguna Seca NB Miata | (1:58:9)
มุมมอง 1698 วันที่ผ่านมา
Okay..starting with the positives here first. First time at Laguna so I knew I wanted to take it easy. This was the second to last lap of the first session - so still technically a warm up for me. Think I was at 70% here, this being my first time I wanted to use the whole first *session* (not lap) as a wam up - which I did. This is a super fun and quick track. Things come up fast and of course ...
Thunderhill 3 Mile Bypass Stock NB Miata 2:15.604 | Turn8racing Open Track Day
มุมมอง 55หลายเดือนก่อน
First open passing track day with Turn*racing at Thunderhill 3 mile bypass thanksgiving day weekend No traffic, no antics and I set a PB in the MX5 at 2:15 and change in the first session with lots of big wins on my side. Later that day I consistently ran 2:16 - 2:17s which is a huge improvement from my last 2:19 run with cyclone. It also helped that there was little to no traffic in that run. ...

Miata Reunion HPDE Sonoma Raceway (2:12:195 Beginner Run group)
มุมมอง 1542 หลายเดือนก่อน
Did my first run at Sonoma at the Miata Reunion HPDE event. I’ve always heard that Sonoma was really tricky bt of course you don’t understand what people mean by that until you get on the tarmac there. In the first session I spun out right at turn 12 after taking a point by I probably shouldn’t have (more on that later) and focused the next two sessions on getting my confidence and bearings bac...

Friends don’t let friends early apex.
That sucks man! but glad you are okay. Also plenty of Miata’s out there to get you back in the drivers seat!
Dang sorry to see this. I run a Spec Miata locally; if you'd like to make back some $ on the chassis and hardtop, please let me know so I can put it towards my spare NB parts. Thanks!
anybody cool enough to post their Miata crash earns a sub! I have a NB-this was super interesting
Ha thanks.. wish I wanted the sub a different way but here we are. I got a new NB and I’ll be back on track in the spring or so once I’ve brushed up on all the suggestions others have given me
I butchered this corkscrew in GT7 enough that I usually eat a second off my times letting off more than needed in person.
Interesting.. I remember doing what you did in i-Racing. I can not afford to race in real life, thanks for the video.
Hard turn; Off and on throttle ; massive weight shift ; cold day ; big speed ; Good you are safe , could have been much worse. Godspeed on journey forward from this. Hopefully you have a chin up.
Need to slow tf down and learn the line before pushing on cold tires, not sure why you were turning in super early on every corner and mashing the throttle. Driving lessons are totally worth it
Change your name to PengoSlower.
Nothing like mashing the throttle when you're already going sideways to really make sure you make contact with the wall!
Yep, like you said in the description, you were driving too over the limit, and not in a way that took into account that things could go very bad, very quickly, very suddenly. I'm happy you're safe, I hate it for your NB, but your safety is #1. End of the day though, you were turning in really too soon, and you had many close calls, not even just the one that did the car in. It's a learning experience this, a costly mistake, but one that didn't harm you. You gotta respect the track, and know the lines, because when one thing becomes unsettled or didn't go quite right, you'll end up in a bigger problem.
3rd gear entry to corkscrew and that line was pretty crazy, a learning experience. Kinda surprised they dont have a tirewall there but Im guessing inner impacts are rare.
@@Battle_Garage nah, this is actually a pretty common scenario. Just what happens if you underestimate the compression effect of landing at corkscrew. It's amplified if you jump down the "shortcut"
it's a 3rd gear turn in the NA/NB Miatas
Are you getting another NB? If you're not too invested in the platform, consider getting a gen 1 86/brz. It's a little more expensive but you can join us at 86Challenge. The front-heavy FR layout with long wheelbase makes the car a lot less snappy, we have ABS, track mode (which helps a lot with moments like this), and we use SX2 tires which are a lot more communicative and progressive at the limit. Lmk if you want to know more
abs and other assists kill the fun of track driving a slower car in my honest opinion
@ saving money and being able to drive home is also pretty fun 😆 it's all pay to play out here, man
Glad you’re alright. Sucks about the car but this is certainly a learning experience.
Glad you’re ok, you can get back on track again. Just try to focus on warming up your tires during the first out lap. I went into this run group and didn’t even finish a lap before this happened :(
Damn man , you need to slow down and get some driver training with an instructor. I could see it coming from the earlier corner entry and throttle control throughout the lap .
I crash there every time in GT.
Fr bro 😂
I felt that sigh at the end. The corkscrew is not forgiving.
You missed all the apexes with that understeering early turn-in thing you're doing. The way you drive is a crash looking for a place to happen. It was inevitable. Maybe brush up on performance driving techniques. At least you're ok.
Maybe don't be condescending to someone who just totaled their car. He's aware of what he did wrong.
And get rid of the lap timer. When I'm teaching lap times are not something to worry about, as there is always a visible improvement in speed over a day and that's all they need to see
@@ddrrFA5 He is not aware. That is how he met the barrier. I was being direct and truthful. It didn't warrant a post from the mean language police. Apparently, the sensitive snowflakes among us are easily butthurt and feel compelled to call for soft language and hand-holding. Maybe you could exercise less victim mentality, especially on the behalf of others, and offer more constructive criticism to actually help, or at least motivate our subject to improve. Full disclosure: I was hoping he would respond to possibly open some dialog. I find that ruffling some feathers often invokes a response. So far that hasn't happened. Instead, I got you, the reincarnation of my Kindergarten teacher. Cancel Reply
@@dan1906 So your approach is that eliciting an argument is going to create constructive criticism in the hopes that the driver eventually bows down to your infinite wisdom? No reasonable person is going to engage in meaningful conversation that way especially when you haven't provided any credentials yourself. You can dish out however many buzzwords you want or make some sort of commentary of the younger generation, but giving objective advice does not require ruffling any feathers, nor does it require being nice for that matter. I acknowledge that he drove poorly, and that his hand gestures imply that was unaware of that, but every time there is a video like this there are multiple comments roasting the driver that dissuade them from engaging in conversation and from getting back on track - especially beginners. The success of the belief that people need to "man up" and take the criticism relies entirely on the receiver's personality and is not a scientific coaching technique.
@@ddrrFA5 Do you feel better? You're obviously very upset. Nothing like an angsty teenage rant to vent. While I'm sure the irony within your hypocrisy is lost on you, the humorous nature of all of this is comedy gold. I mean, you are actually serious, which is hilarious. This started this because YOU didn't like the wording used by me in the comments section, which had nothing to do with you. You were offended. You proceeded to insert yourself into the mix, then outline why I am wrong and that YOU have it all figured out. As long as YOU approve then it's acceptable, right? The world just needs to do it your way! This is very entertaining. Please continue.
You are safe and unharmed. That is the main thing.
Danger to others and yourself.
ive failed this corner so many times in forza motorsport
Ay listen it could have been way worse
My two hour video is gonna be uploaded in four hours if you wanna check it out! Think I got multiple vids of you on track
Hell yes!! And thanks a ton for the note on the color, it took some time to grow on me but it’s one of my favorite elements of this thing!
@ love it, the video dropped 30min ago ur car is at 33:03
I saw you on track! couldn’t get over how nice that color is. Awesome driving as well!
