A Christmas Story with Special Guests
For our last episode of 2024, we explore a Christmas film many are not familiar with, unless you live in the USA.
A Christmas Story is a staple of an American Christmas, so much so, it gets looped for forty-eight hours on its own TV channel every year. Jason and Chris attempt to try and figure out why that is and whether it will resonate with the audiences from the rest of the world.
We didn't do this alone, as we were kindly sent in some voicemails from American friends who shared their memories of the film and their thoughts on why this film hasn't resonated with people outside of the states. Massive thanks to Seth, Brad, and Matt, and you can find links to their podcasts right here (Spotify links):

Bernard and the Genie With Ben Dawber
มุมมอง 60814 วันที่ผ่านมา
Its time to get into the festive spirit here at The Wolfie Pod, and a miracle did happen when Jason remembered a listener requesting that we cover this TV film back in December 2023. This is very unusual for Jason, as he normally can't remember what happened yesterday, let alone a year ago; it truly is a Christmas miracle!! We invited Ben, the listener who requested this fine film and a former ...
The Wizard of Speed and Time w/ Jerden Cooke
มุมมอง 2228 วันที่ผ่านมา
With Rich and Steve out of action, Jason called up Jerden Cooke to fill the gap, and with him came a film choice that neither Jason nor Chris had heard of before. The Wizard of Speed and Time will be an unknown for many, but as we found out, it is a wonderful film for many reasons, which we get into in the episode. Many thanks to Jerden for guest hosting with us, and if you need any type of mus...
Toy Story
มุมมอง 62หลายเดือนก่อน
For the first time, Chris takes up the hosting seat to discuss his choice, which is the monumental and incredibly influential film, Toy Story. With just Chris and Jason, this ends up being a cosy chat about the film, its cast and characters and the realisation of how many layers this film actually holds. One of the reasons Chris chose this film was as a small dedication to a friend who recently...

Shaun of the Dead
มุมมอง 843 หลายเดือนก่อน
Shaun of the Dead turns twenty, and what a perfect time to revisit this iconic, and some would say influential, film. A film that is close to many people's hearts, not just for its comedy or its references to George Romero's zombie films, but also because it brought the guys from Spaced, to the big screen and in such a fantastic fashion. We do touch on Spaced in the episode, as well as the usua...
Battlefield Earth
มุมมอง 54 หลายเดือนก่อน
This episode brings a slight format change, where each of us will now host the show in rotation and who hosts will pick the film or TV show we cover. Rich kicks this off with his choice, Battlefield Earth. It was a film that was panned by everyone when it was released, and it is still labelled as one of the worst films ever made. Did we agree? Could we find some light in the darkness? Or is it ...

The Flintstones (1994)
มุมมอง 6K5 หลายเดือนก่อน
It seems the cartoon and live-action film of The Flintstones seem to of been forgotten, but not by us, and its recent 30th anniversary was the excuse we needed for it to be our feature this week. The extremely talented cast does a great job of conveying the plot of friendship and embezzlement and we cover this plus our favourite moments of the film, reminisce over the BC 52's hit tie in song, a...
Prepare to Fast Forward Reviews | Hundreds of Beavers
มุมมอง 265 หลายเดือนก่อน
Hundreds of Beavers is an independent film where a cider farmer suddenly ends up in the snowy wilderness, and this is his tale of survival from the elements, the local wildlife, and falling in love. This truly is a unique film that takes its inspiration from old silent movies and Loony Tunes cartoons, with plenty of originality and totally shot in black and white. We break down our feelings on ...

The Muppet Christmas Carol | With The Amazing Cliff
This is my favourite xmas movie and I watch it every year. They actually did an American remake (last year I think) but it's nowhere near as good. The original has an excellent script, cast, acting, premise, music. PS: I have seen "The High Life", I remember liking it as a kid but I have a feeling it might not actually be very good. It was very camp, I think that was the main joke.
Yeah, we were shocked to learn of the remake. Kinda intrigued to watch it just to see how much they mucked it up 😂 but it will never be the same without Lenny Henry in it. Did you ever grab the VHS of Bernard and the Genie?

@@TheWolfiePod I had a VHS recorded from the TV. When I left home and didn't take that with me, I would watch it on TH-cam but the quality was pretty bad. I can't recall if I then bought it on Amazon or found it elsewhere, and the quality was a bit better
It’s a staple of my Christmas too!! I’d love to hear a review of Flint Street Nativity
Oh wow, hearing this title unlodged a memory of this. We’ll absolutely take a look at this next Christmas!
Bottle! 🤣 Absolutely love Bernard The Genie. When it came out, I would have been about 14-15 at the time, and remember taping it on VHS, and me and my sisters would watch it over again, and laugh like a drains. You'll be pleased to hear, I still highlight the TV planner, when it comes through, it's a annual tradition, I've never stopped. Anyway thanks for reviewing this gem and Merry Christmas guys! 🎄😍
Lovely to hear of your memories with this film. And I’m so happy that highlighting is still happening somewhere, great work Katie!
I was 13 when released. I saw it on vhs. I remember the film being very different (more like original short). Thoroughly enjoying this.
Thank you, glad you’re enjoying the episode and hopefully bringing back some happy memories of watching the film when you were 13!
Yooka-Replaylee
Great title!
@TheWolfiePod thanks
Thank you so much for checking out our game! 😻
Can vouch for Decline's Drops being a fun time. Creator has more planned too, apparently. For demos, i've experienced and enjoyed Kraino Rebirth, Magenta Horizon and am looking forward to My Familiar and Immortal: And the Death that Follows. For another game where the creator wants to support it for the long term, there's Cookie Cutter from late 2023. Resonated with it very strongly and am excited for more. And want to give a quick mention to Soulstice from 2022 and Clash: Artifacts of Chaos from 2023. Likewise very fond of those. Blud and Zet Zillions were fun too! Others i'm looking forward to or keeping my eye on are the likes of Genokids, Near-Mage, The Dungeon Experience, Ruffy and the Riverside, Enenra Daemon Core, Mightreya, Bad Boro, The Midnight Walk, Voidwrought, Lost in Random: The Eternal Die, Resistor, Pipistrello and the Cursed Yoyo, The Eternal Life of Goldman, and probably more that i'm currently forgetting.
So many games! I’m looking forward to playing through full version of Decline’s Drops. You mentioned Ruffy in your list, which I am very excited for, love a paper mario style aesthetic.
I'll try out Locomotive! Thanks for the suggestion
Great pick! Hope you like it.
Nice video. I've downloaded a few of the ones you've recommended and added some others to my wishlist: I've tried a few demos and quite liked Mandragora and Pyrene. I also have the following on my list, if I have time: Spy Drops, To Kill A God, Simulakros, Silly Polly Beast, Permafrost and New Arc Line
Thank you! That’s a great list and I’ve not tried any of those, which is crazy as I’ve played about thirty demos so far!
@@TheWolfiePod Haha. Too many demos, so little time :)
100%
Time stamps for likes.
Don´t forget Royal Revolt Warriors!
Great shout, I’ve put that on the list!
Nice suggestions, I put most of them on my demo playlist :)
Excellent news! Have fun, there’s some great titles there.
Keep Driving is exciting since i need like type of game since i played Heading Out early this year
Really excited for Keep Driving, it’s promising to be quite the original game! And I’ve not heard of Heading Out, but it went straight on the wishlist after checking out the trailer!
@@TheWolfiePod Good to know also both games soundtrack hooked me up!
One of the best parts of Keep Driving. I couldn’t believe the quality of the music in the demo.
@@TheWolfiePod only 2 bands exist in the demo currently
Ah yes, I do remember not being able to choose many other songs. Look forward to hearing the full soundtrack.
Show
It's really good😊
Merry Christmas Guys thanks for the pods
Thank you tobod, hope you had a good one too!
As a kid i loved city hunter. But have to agree not the best watch as ive got older.Always loved the SF sequence though
Oh, yeah, definitely the strongest scene of the movie. Jackie Chan Chung Li 👌
Brilliant again guys absloutley loved hearing everyones memories of this classic
Absolutely love Firefly, I missed it years ago, but my other half managed to see it on the Scifi channel and was so annoyed when it got cancelled. I was intoduced later on, when we saw Serenity at the cinema and have since rewatched the series on DVD and Serenity again and its a joy to watch, again and again. Joss Weadon's writing is just brilliant, he chose wisely with the actors who played the characters, they just gel, so well. Love the spaceship, western look, it's so cool and different. Firefly forever! 😍
Something we didn’t say on the episode is how they managed to nail this in its first series. So many shows take a couple to really get in their stride (looking at you Star Trek) but Firefly just got it from the start. It was a special show and as you say, that cast was something else. I am really happy you got to experience it.
Great episode definitely gives me inspiration to finally get my self to an expo.Fantastic again guys
Thanks ToBod. You should certainly make the effort as they are a lot of fun and NottsVGE sounds like a great day.
This inspired me to show my 15 year old Robocop finally he loved it.And possibly terrified of it 😂😂😂 Fantastic as usual guys
Fantastic! I’d love to of been there to see their reaction to a couple of scenes.
As you can imagine the acid scene was a particular shocker for him 😂😂😂
Haha, I can imagine. That scene still makes me shiver a little every time I think about it.
Thanks for having us on your bonus podcast! Very fun indeed
Your welcome and I very much enjoyed our chat. All the best for a successful expo guys and hopefully see you at the next one!
Just catching up guys.Absloutley loved this great insight from Rik
Such a wonderful chat and still laugh at a few of the stories he told. I could of talked to Rik for hours!
Really great podcast here guys and hearing the stories from the guests at the expo and also Rowan (MPBUK) who joined you in the studio - hope you all had a great OLL23 weekend!

Me too! And it holds up (mostly) to this day as just a really fun, no brainer action flick.
