diaTribe Musings - T1D Management: Revolutionized, but Challenges Remain
Live Broadcast from July 24, 2024
Advances in technology - particularly continuous glucose monitors and automated insulin delivery systems - are revolutionizing diabetes management and helping people with T1D monitor, understand and more intentionally manage their diabetes. But anyone living with or caring for a loved one with T1D knows that the battle is far from won and significant challenges remain - ranging from tech challenges, skin irritations, hormonal issues, to the 24/7 mental burden of diabetes.
This expert panel featuring clinicians, researchers and individuals living with T1D explores what needs more attention and what the next steps are to making our lives easier.
Speakers: Philly De Piante, dQ&A - The Diabetes Research Company; Dr. Osagie Ebekozien, T1D Exchange; Prof. Jennifer Sherr, Yale University School of Medicine, moderated by Julie Heverly, The diaTribe Foundation.
This Musings Panel was made possible with the support of

    I absolutely LOVE an overnight chia pudding..! I use chia, almond milk, some frozen summer or autumn berries, unsweetened plantmilk yoghurt (all layered) and either coconut for 'tropical' or a dusting of cocao powder or nibs for a 'black forest gateau' flavour! make overnight and pop in my work bag in the morning.

    Excellent case study for Sam and Lucy that demonstrates the utility of CGM (and analyzing the data)! What does it mean to "tighten the carb ratio' (from the second case)? Does it mean have fewer carbs? Oh, also, I understand what flat and in range mean, but what does narrow mean? Thanks!

    • @pssst3
      @pssst3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tightening the carb ratio means to more accurately match the insulin to the amount of carbs that are being eaten. Narrowing happens indirectly. When, over a period of several weeks, the day-to- day pattern becomes more similar and the glucose level at a particular time of day is closer to the average, then the high level to low level difference at that time of day becomes smaller and the 50% and 90% curves narrow.

  • @thecollected1669

    Please don't do this. Chia seeds need to soak up liquid and can expand up to 10x their size and like 20x+ in weight, so doing this can wreck your digestive system. If you can, soak them overnight. Once they've fully absorbed all the liquid they can hold, they're safe to eat.

    Could someone explain to me why type 1 diabetics are not using low carb diets as a tool to manage their blood sugar and more importantly why the medical community isn’t advocating for this? A diet high in protein and fat creates a long flat glucose response in type 2 diabetics so why wouldnt it allow type 1 diabetics to achieve the same goal and require far less insulin use?

    • @linuxssh
      @linuxssh 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Because T1D doesn't have to be about restrictions. You can achieve an over 90% time in range eating normal. But you have to take count of other stuff. They say here that 75% TIR is great... It can easily be much greater.

    • @doubledutch3439
      @doubledutch3439 ปีที่แล้ว

      It would. Plus your TIR would be 100% and your GV could be as low as ~10%.
