How To Upholster a Drop-in Seat
In this episode of the Drunken Upholsterer, we cover the process of building a drop in seat for an interesting antique chair. Because this is an antique we also cover some tips for how to distinguish an antique chair from a modern or reproduction chair.
Some repairs have been made to the drop-in seat in the past. We talk about how to use saw dust and wood glue to fill in holes and damaged portions of wooden furniture. We also cover the full process of upholstering the drop in seat including checking to make sure the drop in seat fits properly, cutting the fabric for the seat, applying the webbing and covering the seat with the fabric.
There is a mystery attached to this chair that remains unsolved. Some markings on the back of the chair are unidentified. We show the markings in this video here: th-cam.com/video/6fPiy8T4qmc/w-d-xo.html

Finally
My zipper pulls don’t go on as easily as yours.
Terrific
What type of staple comes in that brown bottle!? Lol
Love that holster for the shears. Nice work! Thanks!
Someone get this guy a @Coors sponsorship!
Even with my martini you've clearly provided much need info. I thank you as a senior looking to work I can do at home.
What's the name/ supplier of the synthetic webbing you showed in the beginning? I'm having a 60s Kroehler gondola sofa (107" long) reupholstered, but they want to use jute. It originally had Pirelli webbing. Help! What should I tell them to use? Don't know if clips or staples were used in the original. Tia, Jan.
Cool video. Simple and to the point.
I had to subscribe to your channel just because of its name😂
You need to change the name
Many thanks! Perhaps I missed it, but what type/quality/thickness is the foam you're using? It looks pretty thin
Can’t see any details for corners! Need a close up!
im having a hard time finding a stapler thats says its compatible to shoot the short leg 5/32'' staples..only a few models say they will..do you know if the 5/32 leg staples will work in a gun that says 1/4'' but not 5/32''?...or why they wont work
Thank you! such a great explanation
Hi, Can you tell me the type of shear you carry with you? Also, can you tell me the info for carrying your scissors? The holder on my kit is open on the top so you could cause the scissor to pop out at times. Thank you, Steven
This cushionees sound great, but Google can’t find it. Any more details for tracking some down? Doesn’t help that I am in the u.k. 😢

I have dining room chairs that have sunking in ...can I build it up without reupholstering the whole seat?
I have the same Juki sewing machine. I noticed when you raise the presser foot you do it by hand and you do not use the knee press method. Is there a reason for that?
Thanks for this video. It is very helpful!
Have issue with Tr45 stanley stapley gun. STAPLES wont fit into loading part
Nice video! I'll drink to that : )
really bad!! join AA and get rid of your really bad sickness!!
cheers!
Just found your channel.
A great instructional video for the self taught DIY'er
Thanks so much! This was really helpful
I always watch upholstering videos. I like to see everyone’s take, learn something new. But, your channel name is very off putting. I had a brother who died of alcoholism so an alcohol habit will never be amusing. Especially first thing in the morning. I will continue to binge on your videos.
I bought a Bauer 3/8” crown battery powered stapler and some 18-gauge 3/8” crown staples. Works great. But then I needed to use 22-gauge 3/8” crown staples so I bought some. Unfortunately, the 22-gauge staples do not fit in the gun. I thought “crown” means width. So why is it that an 18-gauge staple that is 3/8” wide is much wider than a 22-gauge staple that is 3/8” wide? What am I running into? Thank you in advance for some insight on my situation.
Do you think the BEA stapler with a 3/8 crown and depth would be ok for upholstering walls with a heavier fabric?
YOU HAVE A AWESOME PERSONALITY .
You are amazing teacher! Thank you very much!!!
How 'bout taking on an Antique barber chair? They usually have two foot/ calf rests, a drop in seat cushion, and a two sided back. And a head rest.. I'm restoring one at present.
How long are the staples you use?
I have a question, where do you buy your foam? I have a car needs serious upholstery work. Thanks for the video, super good info and nice and short like my attention span! Thank you!
goog uholsterery
Thank you for all the great information!

Always been a fan of cowhide furniture. Trying to learn how to reupholster myself, so any advice is appreciated. Thanks!
where did you purchase your cowhide?
『p』『r』『o』『m』『o』『s』『m』 😓
What die and buttons do you recommend for heavier fabrics? I’m working with velvet and wanting to cover some buttons. Thanks for the advice!
Maybe you can make a built in cooler under the chair for the beers 🍻
Please, what are the gauges for a staple? I was under an impression that the gauge indicates the size of the wire cross-section. I have a Craftsman stapler that says it uses 20 gauge staples. First, it is very hard to find (20 gauge staples are hard to find at HD, Lowe's, and Menard's). I got some "20 gauges" 1/2 in crown 3/8 in leg from Amazon but found the thickness of the wire that came were a lot more than that's allow to go through the slot of my stapler. So, exactly what defines the gauge of the staple?
