It might be the grain turning it if you look at the lines of the grain they are tighter on the left and straight on right so the timber flows in that direction. Oh dear this is even more frighting than the other vid of yours I saw. Please watch someone with some simple tips for safely carving. I feel I better make one tomorrow because it isn't much between basic knowledge to be safe and doing everything the most dangerous way possible. ultimately the safest info I can suggest now is you want your arms quite straight, saw around waste height . that way you can almost brace your arms and the saw to your body so the hand on the handle hardly moves and is a pivot point and trigger hand steering up down. if that makes sense.

Ummm I think getting your self a carving bar and chain to match. And I normally would never say this but I think It could be helpful to watch me carving just to see how you can use similar saw with carving bar and chain. Really lets you almost draw curves and shapes, the tip becomes a lot easier to get in where you want. seriously the way you were leveling the top is to scary to watch. with the carving bar you can just cut a line on the out side first and when you happy go deeper and deeper till its thru. you don't want to use the saw backwards like that especially when it can slip off the wood. Nothing is a Fail or Mistake - it is all learning something. so I started just following curves and lines drawn with chalk on a slab and also using the tip side to side just to feel and learn how the saw behaves and It took me a few sessions before really be able to have good accurate control, I've worked on tree crew for years Full trained and experienced using chainsaws so its worth just practicing skills a little rather than expecting to first do a masterpiece & learn skills later, NO DOUBT YOU WILL BE CREATING WONDERFUL THINGS IN NO TIME I normally say ""don't copy my lack of safety gear use or dancing with a chainsaw while carving."" so be smart and USE personal protective equipment Chainsaws are Extremely Dangerous

I have a cb 70 too I carve with. I love it!

Keep on keeping on it’s looking good a lot of sanding by hand, but you do feel the wood better with your hand specially, when you’re getting into the detail
