On this channel, I will focus on talking about my journey of discovering music. I will do reviews of both old and new music releases, along with the top 10 lists and reviews.
Growing up during the 1980s, when the musical scene seemed to change in new exciting directions every single day, made me a music geek for life.
There will be a lot of focus on all the brilliant music that immersed myself in during that period. And of course, new discoveries, vinyl finds and all the brilliant etceteras.

My favourite Kim Wilde album. From what I've heard from the Closer album so far, it seems to be in the Teases & Dares style. So we can really be looking forward to that.
Did you say the lead singer of The Alarm was Dave Sharp? Sorry to correct you, but Iit's actually Mike Peters
Thank you for the correction 😊
@@tobiasgronvallgreat video all the same. I love your retrospective videos
Lit's not Mike Peters. It is Mike Peters.
Oops, slip of the finger there
Great analysis, Tobias! I've certainly got into her music after the past few months. I do remember her from the 80s, but was more into rock and heavy metal at the time. I do like the fact that she was more popular in Europe than in the UK with this album. We're all Europeans regardless of Brexit 😀
Thank you. Glad you found your way to the great world of Kim Wilde's music. 😊 For me it was the other way around, I was more into pop and synth music and now days expanded my listening to rock and heavy metal and all the brilliant etceteras.
Very good review. 'Teases and Dares' is one of my favourite albums by Kim.
Thank you!
The 'Shine' song and album by Frida is underrated. I love the backing vocals Kirsty did for it. I enjoyed all the songs Kirsty co-wrote for the album.
I really enjoyed the album before Shine, Something's Going On. Really need to listen to the album in its entirety, if only because of Kirsty's contribution.
Great video. Kirsty MacColl is my favourite female solo artist. My name is in the hardback book of the 'See That Girl' 8CD box set because of my support and I provided a postcard for the release.
Thank you! Great to come across someone else who has Kirsty as their favourite female artist. Great to hear about your support and contribution to the release. I saw your name in the book after you mentioned it 😊
@tobiasgronvall Have you been to Kirstyfest? It's an annual celebration of the life and music of Kirsty. On the Sunday near her birthday (10th October), fans, friends and family gather around her bench in Soho Square to pay tribute and sing her songs. Afterwards, we go to a nearby venue for more celebrations. From 2023, I have been the Kirstyfest organiser where I make speeches and book the venue. It's an event I look forward to every year. I have been every year since 2009.
I have heard about it but over the years and thought that I have to go. But unfortunately never attended. It sounds lovely. Thank you for reminding me. I will break the trend and attend next year for sure.
@@tobiasgronvall If you attend, it will be great to see you.

Thank you!
This is my favourite Kim's album from the 80's! Great review!
Thank you 😊
Got all the singles off the album too on 7 inch.I love the b side of 'The second time". 'Lovers on a beach".Btw i Love ' Catch as catch can" from start to finish.
Great to hear 😊 I agree with your comment on Lovers on a Beach, great track. Kim usually had great b-sides for her singles. I have to give Catch as Catch Can another chance. Haven't listened to it for ages.
@@tobiasgronvall All 3 singles (7 inch) had tiny bit different mixes to the LP versions esp.''Rage to Love".
Another great review I liked the album loved the second time rage to love and the touch should have done a lot better here in the UK I also liked fit it
@@kimwildefans1354To me 'Suburbs of Moscow" was another great track.
Catch as catch can and Teases & Dares have that rich full synthesizer sound. And Kim herself started to contribute to the writing of the songs. So both are very beloved albums.
hey!One of my favest albums by KIM.
The friend and his sister……….😊
Well done, quite an amusing video, which Im sure a lot of people could relate to. Though I still dont like some of the bands/ acts you talk about, well actually any of them, even after trying to re evaluate them. Which made me think my 20 year old version of myself actually had very good taste.

Very good review! I have the first release of Love Is album on LP (German pressing) and the sound is louder than on the 2024 reissue pressing.
Thank you so much! Also, thank you for the info on the original German pressing. BTW, I checked out your channel, what a great one. Kim Wilde extravaganza indeed! 😍 You have a new subscriber. Keep up the good work.

This his such a great review I would have put out who do you think you are has the second single then the brilliant million miles away has the 3rd single
Thanks for the review. I was a big fan of this album. Have been pondering the expanded set. I must get!
I'm very glad to hear that you had a great surround sound experience. I paid $15 and the right channel was completely missing. Very disappointing.
I agree; that is very disappointing. If you have a surround system at home, I hope it will be released on DVD/Blu-ray, and you will be able to listen to it properly.
A McCartney fan from day one. Interesting to hear your story on how you got into him. I have the One Hand Clapping and have sung its praises on my channel. It’s the one album that has JUST Geoff Britton my favorite drummer of wings! BTW, congrats on over a thousand views! New Sub! ❤

@@tobiasgronvall 👌❤️
Just saw this in theatre. Loved it!!! Paul was so cool, he was having fun playing these songs. And I was also surprised how much I laughed. The video quality was rough, but they prepared us for well, that I think. But the sound quality was amazing!!! So glad we got it!! ✌️💙
One noticeable disappointment for me (in contrast to the double album - no EP version) was the omission of 'Let It Be' & 'Long And Winding Road.'
Yes, you would think there were more filmed during these sessions, and that they would include that in this new 'remastered' version of the film. Especially the Beatles songs he did. But it may be lost in time...
I was going to take my mom to see the film on Saturday but $34 after taxes for a 68 minute show including titles? Nope.
Yes, I agree, the prices are bonkers. I paid £12 for my ticket, which I thought was steep, but I have seen figures ranging from £10 to £17 depending on the venue. I understand it is a limited release and all that, but still...
Nice review and granular detail, I like it. Could you review Stella Donnellys EP and first album?
She’s a very unique and touching artist, I would love to hear what you think!
I'll check it out and see what I think of it. Thank you for the recommendation.
Lindsey Buckingham's GO INSANE is a great track that truly stands the test of time. I've rediscovered it in recent years. It's a right boogie! Well-produced. TURN IT UP. Wiggle it!
Art Of Noise actually got a little bit higher than that in the UK it was backed with Moments In Love and reached no 51 and Evelyn Thomas’s High Energy was a very big hit in the UK reaching no 5 and spending 17 weeks on the chart so I'm not sure where the no 77 chart placing came from but I'm enjoying these episodes on 1984 👍
Thank you! Glad to hear that you enjoy these retrospectives 😀 You are absolutely correct. I returned to my notebook for this episode, and I have gotten the chart peak, and weeks wrong for Evelyn Thomas. Really don't know what happened there. 🙃 I will correct it in my last retrospective special (and any other mishaps). Thank you for pointing it out.👍 The Art of Noise single, Moments in Love/Beat Box, I believe came out in 1985 though (?).
Good Portuguese pronunciation! Obrigado for sharing your collection, very nice!
Thank you 😊
I know others might disagree, but I don't mind content creators taking a break. There's so much out there, I'm glad my TH-cam subscriptions and podcast eps come with gaps. Enjoy your break. And good luck with your copyright nightmares. As we say in Sweden: "Njördig, njördig, njördig ... Bårk! Bårk! Bårk!" Allegedly. 🤣
Thank you! 😊 And you are of course right, among the many old sayings in Sweden, "Njördig, njördig, njördig ... Bårk! Bårk! Bårk!" is the most common one we use in situations like this.

My favourite record of the year so far: Egyptian Lover: Emotions/Dirty Passionate Yell. A brilliant electro 12" single from one of the inventors of the genre. Check it out if you haven't already!
The one track that really stuck with me is 'Emotions' is such a good track. Once again The Egyptian Lover delivered the goods. Thank you for recommending this 😃

@@tobiasgronvall Siobhan Donaghy's "Ghosts" album is perfection
I agree. Not hearing many talk about that album. It is a great one.
Several artists working with him during trial: Mariah Carey, The Weekend, Doja Cat, SZA, Latto, Shakira, Pitbull, Jason Derulo, Jennifer Lopez, Becky G, Nicki Minaj, Juicy J, Wiz Khalifa, Maroon 5, Ne-Yo, Enrique Iglesias, Yelle, R City, J Cole, Fifth Harmony, Flo Rida, Ciara, Thalia, Rick Ross, Usher, Pusha T, Phoebe Ryan, Trey Songz, Kim Petras, Fergie, Iggy Azalea, Azealia Banks, Tyga, Kygo, Lil Wayne, Saweetie, Juice Wrld, DaBaby, The Kid Lorai, Young Thug, Lourdiz, Coi Leray, Lil Durk, Morgan Wallen, Polo G, Paris Hilton, Burna Boy, Lu Kala, to name fews, and dont get any backlash.
Sure, all those "to name fews", which means that it's at least double the amount lmao. And that during trial? I get that there's several artist who has worked with him but not that many during trial
@TB-om4dd I will speculate (not stating facts) that one of the reasons Katy's collaboration with him has garnered attention at the moment is the fact that Perry was a part of the lawsuit in 2014, even if she was involuntarily involved based on further accusations from Kesha, which Katy denied. But that probably led to Katy's decision to exclude him from Witness and Smile. Wise move. One of the many parts might be the anticipation of the 'comeback album', and when the news drops that a certain producer/writer will also join her on that album, the winds start to blow. Another part of the attention she is getting atm is the 'message' in the lyrics for her new single, 'Woman’s World', where some claim that her take on feminism doesn't work. It is a perfect storm (or perhaps Katy would call it imperfect). I know that Dr Luke has denied all of the allegations directed at him, and he has not been found guilty. And I am not saying that he is guilty. But, with that kind of reputation accusations directed towards him, it is surprising that Katy chose to collaborate with him. Even if Katy was OK with this, someone on her team must have raised this topic at some point and advised her that this might not be the best move, that it may take away the focus on her new music, her comeback album and also bad in a business/brand sense. I like the new single. I am not dissecting the lyrics, or slander them for being shallow or hollow. It is a pop song (in that case we should criticise/cancel 98% of all music lyrics in pop music for the last 100 years). But a song that is both written and produced by Luke, a song whose lyrics highlight and celebrate women is yet another layer of this controversy and leaves a bitter aftertaste. Guilty or not, the reputation lingers and it can easily ruin careers, and that is why her decision is so frustrating to me as a fan.
@@gangstaboy9387 mariah, sza, the weekend, dona cat, j cole and more more was during trial
Sure, but I'd argue that their collaboration is a bit more awkward in this particular case since he was hired for a song about female empowerment. For those who do believe the allegations against him, his credit undermines the entire message of the song.
I love seeing MDNA cd in the background. I keep finding myself listening to that album these days. It's just Soo gooood! ❤ Thank you! Regarding the new Katy Perry single, I love it! I'm a bit sad she is getting a lot of hate and comparisons to other artists and all. I like your analysis and where her head space might be making this album and all the choices she made, so hopefully she can do more interviews and discuss that further and acknowledge the elephant in the room! Keep up! 😁
Thank you for your comment. Yes, that MDNA album sure is a gem among her many albums 🤩
Clairo has released a new album recently. 'Sexy to Someone' is a single off it that I love. Would be curious as to what you think of it. If you like Charli XCX, then you should listen to 'HEAT' by Tove Lo. Not so familiar with her other stuff though. Very much looking forward to Empire of the Sun new album!
Thank you for the recommendation for Clairo. I haven't listen to her before. I had a listen to the single, 'Sexy To Someone', and I really liked it. Interesting production, sounds like a traditional setup when in comes to instrumentation, but there is something in the production that breaks that mould. Could be the distortion on various instruments that gives it a bit of a gritty feel. The track I really got stuck with, on further listening, is 'Sofia' from the album 'Immunity'. Very good pop track with, yet again, a very interesting production. Great stuff! I will do some listening to Tove Lo's albums as well.

Wow Tobias fantastic, im only about 30 miles from Reading. I saw about 3 or 4 grails on the intro, particulaly A Guy Called Geralds album. As a fan of 12" singles & electronic stuff that looks like heaven. I have to check that out! Me & you have a heck of a lot of crossover in our collection. Hello Tobias, was very nice to meet you and I am enjoying your videos. Looking forward for the one of today. Hope to see you again browsing the crates.
Thank you! It was very nice to meet you too 😀 I really hope we meet up soon in the store and discuss some more music.
Agree with you on "(Feels like) Heaven" - absolutely one of the best pop songs of the 80's. I bought the vinyl a few years ago and the whole album is pretty good. "Ghost of Love" was probably also a single from this album that sounds a lot like 1984.
I love & appreciate how all over the map you are! :-)
A few decent record shops out here in Newbury Tobias!
Thank you for the tip. I really need to visit Newbury. Can you believe I have been living here for that long and never been there. It needs to be rectified this summer.
Tobias - have you ever been to any of the Amoeba Records locations in California? They have tons of vinyl.
I haven't been to any of the Amoeba locations. I have seen videos from the one in LA and it's definitely on my list to visit at some point. With the amount of vinyl records they have, I would probably need to schedule a full day just for that store. 😊
@@tobiasgronvall I spent three hours there on the first visit. Plan on spending lots of cash. There is so much to choose from.
I go to record shows to find some hidden gems. My town only has four good record stores with tons of used vinyl. So I attend these shows, which travel to nearby towns. They are held every two weeks. I find a lot of foreign pressings and stuff never released in Canada.
