Living in Crossville Tennessee
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 24 ต.ค. 2011
I am a lifelong resident of Crossville, TN. My husband and I have four children and three fur babies. All of my kids are nationally ranked trap and skeet shooters. When we're not at the shooting range, we love to travel. My husband and I also enjoy building and rehabbing houses. If I have a free minute, you'll usually catch me with a book in my hand.
I graduated from Tennessee Tech University with a BS and MA in education. I have taught math from 7th grade through the college level for almost 20 years, and I been an instructor in math workshops for teachers for 15 years.
I started my career in real estate in 2005. In 2015, I decided to pursue real estate full time. A year later, I had an opportunity to purchase my own firm, and I decided to franchise with Weichert in 2018.
My passion is combining my love of education and my knowledge of real estate to help people with one of the biggest decisions of their lives.

Both towns are depressing.
Y'all have it so good smh 😂
@@mr.nibblenips4231 agree.
If you want to do them alone, your good. Really not friendly and boring. Not much going on here.
Don't do Crossville. Cookeville is much better.
What's so bad about it looks beautiful
@Doobieskyflyer all of Tennessee is beautiful. Crossville, is controlled by the good old boys, and not much in entertainment, or job opportunities. Just plain boring. They say it is the VD capitol because of how people entertain themselves there. Cookeville is more modern. My opinion have been here 6 years.
@@lindaregan4770 thanks for your input I'm from a really bad part of the city a lot of gang violence and I wanna escape to Crossville because my girlfriend lives there and they are very welcome unlike us people up north but all the people there seem to be wannabe thugs in some parts so I was just checking to make sure I'm not going from hell hole to hell hole thank you for your input
I disagree. There is beauty and hiking and outside things to do, but that is it in my opinion. I regret moving here.
It's definitely not for everyone. That's why I'm trying to put out information so that people can decide.
@sherylwebb me too.
My wife and I have enjoyed many of your TH-cam videos. Considering a move there from Mountain City, TN.
Don't do it. I have moved just North here, and regret it. For the beauty love it, but that is it. If you like extreme Red Necks, Maga, Religious, Extreme Male chauvinist, then there ya go. Some people are nice, but forget it. They portray themselves as conservatives, but I have been told it is the swinging VD capital. The Amish and Mennonites use their religion to sell you over priced items, all the while laughing at you behind your back.
So, you not only missed AJ's Diner you also missed the most important hospital in your town!? What else did you left out. Did you have a sponsor?
@system1654, I’m working on a video about our medical facilities. It was not my intent to call out every business but to give an overview of what is here so that people could decide if the town has the kinds of eating and shopping they are expecting.
@@sherylwebb Wouldn’t medical facilities be on top in the beginning? Giving the people you are focused on.
Yeah, thanks. Tennessee has been invaded and its changing and not for the better. It really sucks.
At least once when I visit my brother Lars on Dogwood Aveny in Crossville from my home in Sweden I would love to go AJ's Diner on 549 S Main St, you missed that one didn’t you. It is a historic place for me and others. So maybe you right some wrong then…
Ahh! You're right! I need to go on down past the hosptial. I remember as a kid when it was a drive in.
Can you explain what you mean when you say that Crossville has an older population so there are less employment opportunities? I would think that it would be the other way around. 🤔
@@cornfedlife hmmm why do you think that older people bring jobs? Most of those jobs besides medical are low paying. The wages in Crossville are low. The older people are in designated areas. Like Fairfield Glade, which is inclusive, and doesn't offer great paying jobs, and is a good distance from the Crossville hub. Remember real estate agents benefit here. Most younger people want to leave, but cannot afford to. They live barely pay check to pay check. This is just how I see it. I am sure others see it differently.
Looks like there's plenty of everything. Thank you!
Thanks for watching!
We need information on places to live rentals, apartments, Senior living, that kind of thing. I'd like to move from New York to down to Tennessee when I retire and I'm not rich. Joe, you need affordable solutions I guess
We have quite a few senior living apartments. Call me, and I can point you in the right direction.
Bird flu capital of Tennessee. just my opinion.
I find videos like these to be very helpful, especially for those of us out of state. It provides a great way to get a feel for the area without driving to the area. I hope you do more just like this for other areas and appreciate the time you took to make it.
Glad it was helpful! I’ll try to do more.
This was wonderful. Thank you for taking the time to do this video. Our family is in the early process of looking to TN. For someone who has never been in Crossville (or any other part ) TN before, this gives a huge help.I have been narrowing areas of interest down and and I am liking this area more and more.
Glad you liked it! If I can answer any questions, please let me know.
Thanks for the tour!
You're welcome!
I know the last thing. These citizens in Crossville, Tennessee would like is a stampede of people into their town. I was a medical rep 14 years in Alabama, Tennessee, and Georgia. I had my favorite towns, and out of all three states, Crossville Tennessee was one of my top three. It is almost the perfect place to live. When you've seen so much of the South as I have, you know a good thing when you say it. The people who live in Crossville should be very proud! It would be my dream to retire there.
Nobody cares Karen. We all have Google will find it when it’s done.
Keep making these videos and it will be just another overrun city
Quit cityfying my Once Small, Country, town!!! We don't want Crossville to be the size of Knoxville or Nashville. Keep It Small!!! Who's with me?
Don't forget NO income tax .
Crossville is a generational famiies run city that is crooked as hell. This is a crooked place.
As soon as you mentioned the Bible Belt,I wanted to move there. I’ve been looking at moving to any area surrounding Knoxville Tennessee and I’m surprised I haven’t looked at this place yet. Thank you!
What a lovely town. Thank you for your walk around!! Enjoyed this from Virginia!!
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it.
I can tell you we really don't need any more people in crossville it getting too crowded, so stay where you are and where you belong
No.
If you want to keep it that way you shouldn’t be making videos like this….
I moved here from NC and I can give you another Con, the local government is typical "Good 'ol Boy" network, nothing gets done unless you're related to somebody in power. Terrible county road maintenance, and not enough fire stations. The waste management is pathetic, county transfer stations that look like dumps and built 70 years ago. The trade off for very low taxes is poor infrastructure and government services. Cookeville/Putnam County is more popular for a lot of reasons.
Absolutely agree. The religious zealots in your face, but behind the scenes another story all together. I have never been anywhere the people are completely taken in by the people in charge. There is a lot of money here, but first snow fall, and school has been out for over a week, because the county is too cheap to spread salt on back roads.
Very informative!
Glad you think so!
Easier to follow if you use town names and not county names as I got lost 😮
Crossville is Cumberland County. Cookeville is Putnam County.
Oh how depressing looking. The theatre sign & theatre are beautiful. Thank God they didn't get rid of it. Does anyone know how far the next town is that has a town square that isn't spread out & cold looking? There's no one walking. 'It;'s all cars & box stores around it seems
It was a little early, and the sidewalk construction is keeping some people away. There was good activity around Grinderhouse. It is really a nice downtown with almost no empty buildings.
@@sherylwebb thank you for your reply.
We have enough people! Stay in your state! They have ruined cookeville and surrounding communities to many people!!!
If you’re a liberal or progressive, stay where you are, we don’t like your kind
I would also add that this is not a great place to live as a minority. I can't even begin to describe how my minority status negatively affected many aspects of my life growing up there. Diversity is hugely lacking- Diversity not only in race, but in culture and world views. Also, though, once you get old enough to have mental integrity and be able to shrug it off, it's not bad enough to significantly impact your life. Certainly not bad when you compare it to gang related activities of city life. Also, I can verify your statement regarding cost of living. The home I live in now costs the equivalent to maybe 10 homes in Cumberland County. That said, my career could never flourish there either- so I had to leave.
Agree
Hi I need a peace of land owner financial!!! Let me know please
I remember the original skating rink. It was terrifying for a young kid. It was small and the hardwood floor was all warped and we were learning to skate. It was full of people and if you fell, you were getting run over - no doubt about it. Ben Franklin and Lays 5 & 10 (5 and dime) were our favorites when we were kids. My dad would take us to eat breakfast at Rexall drugs which I don't think she mentioned. We would always get waffles because we never had those at home. She probably didn't know about Maude's restaurant either. Who remember's Maude's??? Tiny little place with a concrete floor, but the best food and THE BEST rolls. Yum! I think the building is still there - no idea what is in it. I remember standing around the memorial and marching and playing in the freezing rain, snow, etc. It seemed like it was awful terrible weather for Veterans day. I think most of us kids hated that day more than anything. We just didn't understand the significance of it and the bad weather always made it so much worse.
@@jkoucheki, I’ve heard of Maude’s, but I don’t know where it was.
@@sherylwebb If you turn left beside Mitchell's drug store, it would be a very small white building (provided it's still there) on the left. It had it's own parking lot. I believe there is a road that runs downs there beside it on the left. I THINK Roger York's law office used to be or may still be there. I'm not exactly sure about that, but the location is right.
Excellent tour. Thanks. My memories of Main Street include Post Office, Jenkins & Darwin, Brewer's, Dooley's Grocery, Hale's Grocery, Lay's 5*10, train Depot, My Barber Shop, many more. Anyone else recall these? Crossville my hometown, though I left in 1979.
@@feathersax, thank you! I remember those. I don’t think I’ve heard of Jenkins and Darwin. Where was that?
@@sherylwebb Jenkins & Darwin was a department store on the same block as Thurman's Men's Store, K&W Shoe Store & Lay's. It was managed by Leon Vandever, a fine fellow. This old curmudgeon has a good long-term memory but can't find his sunglasses, car keys, cellphone, etc.
Thank you. I miss visiting Crossville
Nice tour of downtown - great job, Sheryl!
@@kathybuechel8076, thank uou!
We're eyeing this place for our move next year trying to get closer to home
@@volcom21d , let me know what questions you have. Would love to help you decide where is right for you.
Think again. It's pretty and that is all.
@@lindaregan4770 spill the deets
We've been treated very poorly since moving here and told repeatedly to "go back where you came from". The woefully bad employment and low wages are shameful. Combined with the housing shortage, it has caused an abundance of problems with homelessness and drug addiction. I think Crossville should continue to be sold as a retirement community for people who possess the funds to live comfortably without having to work. But this is not the place for working couples or those with young kids. There are not opportunities for growth or prosperity here, nor are there ample youth programs to keep kids thriving and out of trouble. The number of people who smoke, panhandle, abuse animals, and cut you off in traffic is astounding. Many people choose to live in squalor and most of the county commissioners like it that way, even if they speak a different story. Many want this community to remain lost in time and resent anyone coming in as an "outsider" trying to change things, even when those changes are advantageous to the citizens. I will miss the beauty of the mountains and my quiet acreage, but the southern hospitality has been a myth and much more hostile than welcoming. I pray for the locals who embrace living like this and hope they find happiness, but it will be without my family's contributions. I look forward to returning to my hometown where we embrace and invest in newcomers.
One big reason not to move to Crossville is the dang traffic. Where have these people come from?
I’m a new subscriber. Love the videos and hope to see more. Seriously considering a move to crossville or cookeville next summer.
You hit the nail on the head! If I was younger, I would pick Cookeville. I ended up choosing Crossville because it has a smaller town feel, less traffic, cooler weather/less humidity, and way less tornados.
@@truthbetold6942 traffic has gotten worse in my opinion.
Does anyone have any information about Lake Breckenridge and why it did not take off like Lake Tansi, which is about minutes away? I believe they were by the same developer.
Not really sure why it didn't take off. Could be that it didn't have a golf course, which has always been one of the biggest draws to Lake Tansi.
@sherylwebb Thanks for your response. I recently inherited an undeveloped plot of land in Breckenridge after my dad's death. Just curious why so many undeveloped plots after all of these years since I am not from the area.
Does anyone have any information about Lake Breckenridge and why it did not take off like Lake Tansi which is about 5 minutes away? I believe there were by the same developer.
Show us th3 downtown M mall and shopping.
I'll work on that.
Crossville is such an underrated part of East Tennessee.
Not sure if I’d agree with your traffic assessment. Of course there’s not much traffic compared with a big city but for a town this size there is more traffic than one might expect. Great video! We’re certainly happy to be here! 😃
Yes it does get cold here always has.
Don't move here. It's been overrun by people from other states and people who don't live here renting their property out to druggies and illegals. Crime has skyrocketed, traffic is horrible, and the good-natured, polite southerners who grew up here are outnumbered. Traitors keep moving here claiming they don't vote blue, but our once great state is being taken over by the blue disease.
