    Watching your techniques. What's the grit of the hones ? I take it that the eccentric movement is normal. Just used my dial bore indicator on a cracked 4.7 Chrusler rod that spun, and now measures .003 out of round, so paperweight ?

    Great vid just wondering after resizing do you still use the stock size bearing ?

    • @m.a.p.4hp737
      @m.a.p.4hp737 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The outside diameter of the bearings is the stock size. The inside diameter of the bearing depends on the crankshaft journal size.

    Why bother to spend the money for the bolts and then also pay the labor to install them and re size them ? wouldn't it be better to just buy a forged set of rods ? I mean if you were the machinist and just your time or a buddy doing you a favor the cost of a set of bolts is a no brainer but SHIT who wants to pay machinist labor rates for a marginal upgrade that is vastly inferior to just getting a low cost set of 4340 rods ? Now I can see where a shady machinist would push this upgrade because its mostly labor and if it fails he gets a repeat customer that needs a lot of expensive engine work done. This is like telling a crewman on a nuclear submarine that sinks to the bottom of the ocean to simply take a deep breath and swim to the surface .. no worries

    Have to disagree with the power ratings. I’d say 600-700 with decent tune is about the cut off where you’re not rolling the dice. But plenty making more than that for a long time. Crank is good for far more than that. Although it will start to flex around 1000+. Which isn’t good.

    I didn't understand about the chamfer part.

    • @Kenny-1958
      @Kenny-1958 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The chamfer on the rod goes toward the radius on the crank journals. One side of the rod has a bigger radius than the other side.

    • @michaeldose2041
      @michaeldose2041 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      He did a really mumbo jumbo answer for something simple. The chamfer goes toward the crank and the flat goes toward the other rod on the journal. So the chamfer on piston one would face the front of the engine and the chamfer on piston two would face the rear of the engine. Repeat for the remaining six. Odd numbers chamfer forward, even rearward.

    For those deck torque plates, do you need to buy a lot? Like for every engine manufacturer? Or can you make your own with a drill press? I can’t imagine headbolt patterns match maker to maker. They wouldn’t be that nice lol. Great video love the setup

    • @doggettsautomotivemachinin675
      @doggettsautomotivemachinin675 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Jack thanks for the kind words. Your right on bolt patterns, different manufacturers have different head bolt placement around the cylinders. They have steel and aluminum torque plates depending on what heads you will be running would determine what torque plate to use with the appropriate gasket! Also head bolts / studs come into play as well. You always wanna use what you will be assembling the engine with!
