I don't understand where the exta two axis come from. Am I wrong in thinking only 3 exist? Or does the same movement from the chuck get counted as its own?
5axis machines have X,Y, Z+A, and B or C axis. That machine has X, Y, Z+A, and B axis
@dleorb910_StellarStellar Perhaps I wasn't clear in my question. Only 3 axis of movement exist in the universe we live in. It's quite impossible to create new ones until we find new dimensions. Telling me what they're called doesn't explain what the heck they are? I'm guessing the tool and chuck movements are just counted separately even though they share axis.
@PorkChopAChunky A, B, C axis are rotated around the X, Y, Z axis. They're not another axis. We just call them A,B,C axis.
There's more than 3 axis of movement. I think you are confusing it with three dimensions. We have three dimensions yes, but we have upto six axis of freedom of movement called quaternions. You can position a cube anywhere with three axis, but each rotational axis counts as a seperate axis. That adds up to six axis
@ariyavellenga3455 I must be missing something. We have up/down, left/right and in and out. Where in a space will those planes of movement not take you?

“Why is a million dollar five axis mill turn better?” Probably because it’s a million dollar five axis mill turn.
Less setup time in between jobs if you have a common tooling package, higher hp in the B axis for more aggressive milling than you could ever do in a live tooling lathe, get a two channel machine with a lower turret and you’ve got a powerhouse for more complex parts. Yes it is overkill for more simple shafts and tubes, I get that.
Cnc jobs always made me wish I was dead from 🇺🇸
