Just got my ‘23 base KLR and received this today - you were absolutely right! Was $25 total for me in the US, thanks so much for the clutch tip!
Awesome, good to hear it worked for another person. Heaps of us have now scored this deal. I find them great I use soft panniers and having that bottom tie off point is fantastic. Enjoy and safe riding
Such a simple solution. Love it.
Yep works really well. Just did 1770km off road over 4 days and neither side came loose.
Have you had any problems with these vibrating loose over time?
Never - they have all the original sleeve and rubber etc and you can get them nice and tight by hand. Overall on my KLR I haven’t had anything come loose except one peg bolt (after a crash hitting it - think it popped a thread etc)
@ cool thanks for getting back to me. I just picked up a Gen1 Klr and was looking for a good seat mod like this
Is that an ET pulsar in your shed?
Nah it’s an AE82 Twincam 16v (4age motor) same as the AE86 - same era and I guess competitor car really - it’s an 87 model.
Ohh awesome. Very cool 👌 i love the magic rubber, ive just sent this vid to my mate who is trying to restore a plastic tank on his older yz
@ yeh I sort of forgot about the magic eraser and then remembered just before I grabbed plastics off bike.
Hey Oli, I am planning a Vic trip and looking at doing a very similar loop of the high country. Coming from Tassie on christmas eve, I am riding solo and a bit of a maniac for punishing myself on the bike for long hours, would you say this trip would be do-able in 2.5 days if riding long hours with only short rest stops? Thanks for the videos mate they helped me figure my route out.
hi mate, yep should be fine. if you private message me an email i can send you the gpx files so you can check them over etc.
I will have to try this!
Excellent video guys. I'm sure a lot of the guys there would love to see this. Keep them coming.
16:29 is my dad. Reddy orange can-am. We were across the path from you with the yellow can-am marquee. We did wonder what you guys were doing running around with a gopro. Really cool to bring some popularity to a vinduro, Awesome vid lads
Awesome, you have some great bikes. I didn’t ride broadford event - volunteered a bit and then filming really. We really enjoyed the event and I had wanted to join for last 15 years really - just now the timing works. I got back from broadford and by Monday noon I had purchased a bike so I can join in :). I had planned to do up an old TS185 as i have 3 in parts but I’m too big and would wreck it….stumbled across an 85 KLR250 within my tight arse budget so picking it up tonight ready for 2025 events. Catch you at the next one
@@OliReu Awesome. Next season will be a blast. Just picked up a nice ts250 that needs some work but we have time till the next season anyway
I have a 66i and the sos does work through your phone but you have to set it up.
Sounds good - thanks for the info.
gday all, fellow adv riders, just saying that ive done this road in the hyundai excel, next is my new mode of transport the klr.
ps i was a learner until last week and passed my license assement, 😁
Congrats mate, enjoy the bike !
Thanks for the video mate, how are these panniers going these day's?
Hey mate still all good - just did a 1200km ride and all fine ready for next trip.
@@OliReu cheers for that.
I’ve also got a 2000~km trip coming up mid November so will have further feedback then
Appreciate the demo/ build
Cheers mate, it works well. I have one strapped to bike permanently which I haven’t had to use yet, then one at home I use for quick chain cleaning / oiling
I have the same ones. Transfered them to my DRZ, KLX, and now my KLR. They hold their shape pretty good once u got it set. What I like is them folding down for traveling in back of truck, they aint howling in the wind. And with the first two bikes I could load bike in truck, fold mirrors down and still fit in garage for leaving early AM or coming home late when raining.
Yep love them and still working after 1000s km
Heated gloves next mate 😂
Ha yes I keep looking at them online and also the price !!!
Love the old bangers oh I regret selling some bikes 😢
thanks mate
Cheers mate, been on for a few thousand kms now and all perfect
Why you driving on the wrong side of the Rd mate? Lol
Beautiful country by the way
Good feedback mate, I'm excited to get mine, I ordered the 28L kit for my crf300 rally
This is the kind of review I like to see, straight to the point and showing the actual product that you’re talking about. Get other creators that have the camera on them but you wanna see more of what they’re talking about. This was great mate, I ordered the 28L set earlier tonight, keen to go for a ride when they’re arrive!
Cheers sounds good, since this I just completed a 1200km ride with them (see recent videos) where they performed perfect again.
Hi mate - recent update from last week - Rhinowalk Panniers long term review | 2500km | mainly off-road th-cam.com/video/zwoiGrLJ6dM/w-d-xo.html
Excellent thanks Simon :)
Thank you for showing us this aaaa
Awesome ride mate! Looking forward to day 3 🙂
Cheers mate, it was really enjoyable. Great spending time with the older guys with the bike and life skills etc. making the vids makes me want to go back and do it all again right now !
Awesome.
Hey guys. The routes you were riding would be great in slightly better weather.
yes 100% - it was fun in the rain / mud but would be fantastic and alot easier in the dry - except sand would be worse. The Ingleton Track is one that we feel you just attempt it every trip moving forward regardless of weather and see how you go :)
😅😅😂😂. Makes sense. Would be great if you could share the GPX
@@Skuffy1969 yep it’s shared in the description :)
KLR 3rd gen that I have is only 30 mm long and not 35 so the 35 mm bolts I bought are too long and I have to cut them off. they now hit the frame
Thanks for feedback, i have checked over video and screen shot in there shows 30mm ones (must be what i purchased) the error was in the video description i noted 35mm which i have now altered to 30mm - sorry mate, atleast an easy fix cut 5mm off and all done.
@@OliReu no worries my friend I already took my Dremel tool out and shortening them right. up I do appreciate the you good idea
Day 1 looked like fun. Would be great to join you guys in future trips.
Cheers mate, should get the rest of the videos (maybe 2) up over next week or so. Are you melb based ?
@@OliReu Geelong based actually.
I did it, works well. Thanks!
Great video love it do you mind putting a link to the app your using since I cant finded on the play store as four stroke
Cheers mate, it’s FourStroke on IOS if android there’s once called drive mode dashboard 2 ppl seem to use
Plastics did end up fitting fine with hand covers on in the end.
Cheers mate 🍻
Great Video would you mind putting the links for the items that you purchased ! THANKZZZ
Cheers have updated the video description with the items I purchased
so what did you unplug?
Not sure what you mean? Nothing unplugged the klr is made with 3 sets of 12v wiring present ready. They are supposed to be for 12v usb / plugs Driving lights Heated grips. I tapped into the driving lights wiring for my usb as closest to access etc.
@OliReu the red plug. Was that just extra, or did you have to disconnect it from somthing to use the app ?
@@not_batman3888 red plug is obd2 port for diagnostics. I have since used that plug to plug in a converter to standard obd2 port and a Bluetooth adaptor to phone app to view bike data. There is another video on this aspect I’m fairly sure i made.
@OliReu ok, I just wanted to make sure you weren't unplugging the existing dash.
@@not_batman3888 no that all remains as is. The obd2 just allows you to diagnose - or plug in a setup with Bluetooth like I have to allow data readout on a phone app. I just wanted it to know revs at certain speeds and coolant temp. I maybe check the app once a ride just if I’m curious if coolant temp etc
hi there looking at this or the 7" Carpuride how's the OttoCast holding up also do you have a problem with it sticking so far out away from the dash ...as always thanks for all your info videos
Hi it’s holding up fine- I’ve full pressure washed bike with it on all fine. As far as sticking out I haven’t hit or bumped it as it doesn’t actually come forward that much really. I think a 7” would be good for viewing but then harder to fit and keep out of your way.
Does it work for the front wheel?
Nah not really, she’s fairly hard to balance and get the klr off the ground for front wheel. For front I think I’d just lay her over or lift skid plate up onto rock or something. Perfect for rear especially quick chain lubes etc
Hey can u give me a small feedback after 1 year using them? still waterproof? die plastic snap or did u fall and they ripped?
All fine, I ripped one strap clip off as I left it undone and got caught in wheel, I just stole another clip off an old backpack which happened to suit perfect. So they have been fine after 1 year. Will be doing another 4 day trip at end of July so will have further feedback then.
Can u still put gas in while it on
Top clips you wrap around steering stem, I cross them and add a zip tie so they stay there. You just unclip these (2 seconds) and fold bag towards seat and fill then reclip, very easy. It stays held by the rear clips at all times
image on kawasaki site and revzilla has no bottom bar, just the main bar, decided not to buy
Yep need to check diff schematic - needs to be the 2024 adventure model schematic / option
Just ordered mine for my new 2024 klr650
Good stuff, enjoy they work really well
One question. Can you remove the unit from the base?
Yes it just unclips, but is then held for security with a single bolt that is held captive in the mount and screws into a female thread on the main unit either hand tight for easy removal or add a turn with some pliers so it’s basically safe from opportunistic thieves
did the setup....can you get the speedo to work.....maybe change vehicle...any suggestions?
To be honest I haven’t checked as just use it for Tacho occasionally and coolant temp. Sorry mate.
Thanks for this , I never thought of that. The factory bolts really suck.
Where you get the rhinowalk harness at?
I got it from adventureonstore. Great to deal with Aus company. Can also buy off Amazon
Does the adapter power down with the ignition off?
Yep it doesn’t work / connect to phone until ignition on
Had to share this one with you I got one of those plastic tool tubes $14 EBay and found the screw holes line up exactly with the screws holding the shinny black plastic side cover So with some longer screws and rubber washers I was able to mount the tube vertical down the side of the wheel arch looks good wish I could send photo Thanks for all your mod’s inspiration 😊
Sounds good mate - feel free to send me a pic sberton@hotmail.com
you must remove side panels on gen 2 bikes as the seat bolts are beneath them.
K, so that’s another improvement on the gen 3 which is good. I haven’t had to access using them yet but atleast it’s a quick tool free job now.
looking at GPS just wondering why you chose the 661 over the larger Zumo for visibility while riding great info video once again cheers
Cheers mate - I don’t use it for the gps function at all really (can and good backup knowing it’s there if needed) I use it to record my route which then allows me to save all trips I’ve done as gpx and organise these within Garmin explore and mainly within Gaia.- I use the iPhone and downloaded maps on Gaia or Garmin explorer then connected to ottocast. I chose the 66i for its SOS as its portable and can then come with me easily on any hikes or camping non Moto stuff but it has the routing and all the topo aspects like the zumo - so yeh it was purchased to be used for multiple purposes and ofcourse I really should have it mounted on me so when flip / crash the SOS function is on me to press
Klr so capable!
Yep it goes well :)
Enjoyed the video mate! Stay upright 🙂
That’s a good first bike. I love that ole KLR. KLX might have been a good new rider choice as well.
Cheers mate, yes I’m enjoying the bike - almost time for another rear tyre - pretty sure I’m going to go the failsafe D606
