Lilpri is a fun little series. I think it was based on an arcade game originally, where you used the outfit cards to dress up the characters. One interesting thing it had was that if the girls' identities are ever revealed, their bracelets will stop working, and that becomes a problem in the last episode. Also rather than just being a love interest, Wish actually has a significant role in the story, sometimes helping the girls with their mission. (Also the songs are quite fun). Houkago no Pleiades was originally a collab between Gainax and the car company Subaru, which is probably why the main character is named Subaru and the girls fly on "drive shafts" rather than brooms despite having witch-like magical girl outfits. That is where the initial 6 episodes came from. They eventually expanded the idea into a proper anime series with 12 episodes. It's very existential at times, in the usual Gainax way, but it has nice animation and music.

Shugo Chara is really good! I really liked its lessons about being yourself and following your dreams, something which really stuck with me since I struggle a lot with those things. Also, like you said it has really good animation and music. Utau's songs are particularly good, which I guess is no surprise since she's voiced by Nana Mizuki. Even the theme songs (mostly by the idol group Buono) are good though. Also interestingly the manga and anime have different endings. Basically the Shugo Chara Party season plot doesn't exist in the manga, although the series' creators, Peach-Pit, have claimed that it is still canon. Also the arc with Lulu and the ? eggs is exclusive to the anime. Peach-Pit created Rozen Maiden too apparently, which has a very different feel to Shugo Chara.

I really liked Tokyo Mew Mew back in the day, though I didn't really watch the 4Kids dub (a.k.a. Mew Mew Power). I had the manga too for a while. And now, 20+ years later, we have a Mew Mew remake. Which I want to watch but haven't gotten around to (it took me a while to even figure out what streaming service it was on - it's on Hidive). I've read a bit of the Full Moon wo Sagashite manga. It is a sad story since her grandmother is so against her singing. Both the shinigami have sad pasts as well. I'm curious how it ends. Also I really love Arina Tanemura's art style. It's very distinctive and pretty. She's done a wide variety of stories too - she did Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne (covered elsewhere in this series) and Sakura Hime (a magical girl series set in feudal Japan that is only in manga form as far as I know), among others. She did a Frozen II manga adaptation recently too that I liked a lot. I would like one of her artbooks.

It's too bad Fancy Lala didn't do well. It is a good series! Apparently it got an English dub too at some point, because recently I found a box set of it, and it claims to have both Japanese and English audio I believe. I recently read the Utena manga (including the manga version of the movie Adolescence of Utena) and...man. It is a LOT. Like, I found it very interesting and engaging, but there is some crazy stuff that goes on. Like borderline disturbing at times. I mean, the whole "fighting to have Anthy as your bride" thing is weird enough, but oddly enough it gets weirder than that. In retrospect, I'm actually glad I didn't read it when it first came out, back when I was in late middle school/early high school. I don't think I would've been mature enough to really understand it. Like how I understood Jane Eyre better when I read it for 12th grade English than when I first read it in 8th grade after my uncle sent me a copy while being stationed in England. I was older, more mentally developed, and knew what it was like to be in love and experience heartbreak. So I got more out of it that time around, I guess. Utena also explores some interesting things with gender expression and identity that are pretty common discourse today but would've been unheard of back in 1997 when it was released (even probably in Japan). So there's that dimension too.

Ukyos part is so cute

Thank you for featuring Fashion Lala! It's actually a really good OAV and the opening song, "DESTINY LIGHT" (the one that plays during the segment) is really catchy and just full of '80s energy. I've watched Fancy Lala as well; it's also good. It basically takes aspects from Fashion Lala and turns it into a magical idol singer anime, which in 1998 (when it was released) was a genre that wasn't really around anymore. Unfortunately, it didn't really get the attention it deserved, with other more popular series at the time, like Cardcaptor Sakura, getting all the attention instead. I didn't know the "make your drawings real" concept originated with Pastel Yumi though. That's interesting!
