breeding discus: blue&red pair getting ready to lay eggs
My first time trying to breed discus. The mismatch pair finally getting ready to lay eggs in a separate breeding tank.

My very low-tech water change routine in the main tank. 2-3 times per week, 30-50%. Siphon the bottom every time, add dechlorinator (Prodac Aquasana), water comes straight from the tap at trickle speed. It is quite slow but almost no pH swing and very little micro bubbles. The fish are not stressed at all, they often bite my hands hoping for food and chill under the "waterfall".

This is my new project, intended to house some fry / young discus eventually. The single fish testing the new tank here is the headstanding female from the trio I bought in the summer, that suffered the worst damage from Camacell. I have kept her in a small hospital tank with low water level for a couple months now, and she has significantly improved, although she still has some balance issues ...

This pair is getting good at parenting! This is the second time they've had free swimmers survive for a little while. These are now almost 2 days free swimming, attaching to the parents and there are still about 15 left.
strange behaviour, stress and head standing caused by Camacell???

7 weeks in quarantine, towards the end of Camacell treatment (at 5 3 days everthing done according to instructions), previously healthy and vigorous new discus developed these symptoms.

the females have been fighting, and one of them got eye damage...

New guy has settled in. He (? - I really hope so) eats beefheart with a good appetite but otherwise is feeling quite awkward... the two girls are shaking at each other again and chasing him around, they clearly just want some privacy, not a male :-)

Eggs hatched and parents immediately started moving them to the driftwood from the leaf they spawned on.

The new guy getting reaqcuainted with the girls. Both my new discus turned out to be female, both laying eggs. Now there is (hopefully) a male to pair up with them. He is from the same breeder, same shop, same tank so could be added directly into the same qt tank.

Day 10 of qt. No medications yet, since there was a nitrite spike after day 3. Despite that they spawned... both fish laid eggs on the filter one day apart. So I have two females. May need to get one more...

This clip shows the fish being stressed, darkened colour and staying out of the way while the others are eating. Luckily turns out it was just indigestion and he was back to normal the next day.
I was a bit worried about this behaviour and darkened colour, but turn out it was just indegestion. He was back to normal and eating well the next day .

Quarantine?. What do you feed them on daily basis?
Yep, my new fish always go through 6-8 weeks quarantine period with deworming, before going into the main tank. I feed very varied diet, frozen seafood mixes and beefheart, artemia, mysis, different flakes and granules, even freeze dried tubifex and bloodworms.
