Total game changer in 82 but 83 they just punched you in the face with this then 84 absolute best show in Drum Corps history and I'll fight you over that. Then 85 came with Jeremiah GTFOH. Best 3 year run of all time. Changed the game. I don't want to talk about 87 😔

The highlight of my musical career was performing Mahler 2 with the Northwest Mahlerfestival Orchestra in 2013.

Some of us Blue Knights had the chance to help them bring their podium onto the field for this. Standing there before that hit, every hair stood on end; I had to raise my arms it was so electric. That first hit is such a terrifyingly bold arrangement, and you could feel the sheer 100% commitment from everyone on the field to go big or go home. They also had about 1.5x the people in this Alumni hornline compared with a typical top 12 corps; imagine the power.

Only case of an alumni corps sounding better than the original corps in many ways

I have goosebumps and I'm watching this on TH-cam. I can't imagine being there. Star revolutionized the activity then dropped the mic.

Considering how ridiculous the "production values" have taken over DCI, you would think they would have live projection from the original shows instead of still shots on giant screens. I don't like DCI anymore. In Germany we would say something like verkocht. Too much,

For everyone who grew up watching this show on VHS, not even knowing how great it was at that time and only understanding later what Star did for the activity - THANK YOU to everyone involved.

What is up with that pianissimo snippet at the end? It just seemed so out of place after the triple forte Fermata. I saw the 1983 original, and I heard that same little snippet, yet it was way louder, although it still seemed out of place. Can somebody who played in the Cadets explain?

@usg1945: Cadets played this as the opener to their show in 1982 & 1983 and won their first DCI championship and high brass award with this in 1983. They made it legendary, which is why they still warm up with it 30 years later. If you haven't done so, check out the 83 recording...it's amazing and still one of the best DCI brass performances.

I played Rocky Point Holiday in high school at competition. We won everywhere we went, and felt pretty good about it. Now I find out that the Cadets did it as a warm up the same year! A warm-up!!!!!!! th-cam.com/video/eGi8lG54yZ4/w-d-xo.html

My goal is to see a DCI show where Cadets does this warm-up. It is indescribable.
