2011 Cadets Hornline - DCI Finals Indoor Warmup: Rocky Point Holiday
Due to inclement weather, the 2011 Cadets had to warmup indoors prior to their championship winning performance of "Between Angels and Demons". Obviously the acoustics in this room aren't ideal, but it's Finals so this had to be shared!
It's Rocky Point. 'nuff said.

Cadets 2010 Hornline Finals Warmups - Rocky Point Holiday

Rocky Point Holiday was the piece that won the Cadets their first World Championship in 1983. Since then, it became the standard "hype" parking lot warmup in 2000.

Another part of the Cadet's historic library, "Hymnsong of Philip Bliss" was the ballad in the 1993 Championship program "In the Springtime, When Kings Go Off to War". Hear the 2010 hornline perform it before they head to the stadium for their final performance of the summer.

    Total game changer in 82 but 83 they just punched you in the face with this then 84 absolute best show in Drum Corps history and I'll fight you over that. Then 85 came with Jeremiah GTFOH. Best 3 year run of all time. Changed the game. I don't want to talk about 87 😔

    Some of us Blue Knights had the chance to help them bring their podium onto the field for this. Standing there before that hit, every hair stood on end; I had to raise my arms it was so electric. That first hit is such a terrifyingly bold arrangement, and you could feel the sheer 100% commitment from everyone on the field to go big or go home. They also had about 1.5x the people in this Alumni hornline compared with a typical top 12 corps; imagine the power.

    Considering how ridiculous the "production values" have taken over DCI, you would think they would have live projection from the original shows instead of still shots on giant screens. I don't like DCI anymore. In Germany we would say something like verkocht. Too much,

    • @highstimulation2497
      @highstimulation2497 ปีที่แล้ว

      they do have live projection, you just can't see it in this video. it is in fact mostly synced up with this live performance, after the very beginning bit, remarkably. th-cam.com/video/MPrmJ37Sfjk/w-d-xo.html

    • @BruceRichardsonMusic
      @BruceRichardsonMusic 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, so disappointing. You really hear it on "When you Wish Upon a Star." Anyone who imagines that Bb horns were a good idea should just have a listen to how Star's sound completely changed. And note that the intonation on the Bb horns is not one bit better, because that is a myth.

    What is up with that pianissimo snippet at the end? It just seemed so out of place after the triple forte Fermata. I saw the 1983 original, and I heard that same little snippet, yet it was way louder, although it still seemed out of place. Can somebody who played in the Cadets explain?

    @usg1945: Cadets played this as the opener to their show in 1982 & 1983 and won their first DCI championship and high brass award with this in 1983. They made it legendary, which is why they still warm up with it 30 years later. If you haven't done so, check out the 83 recording...it's amazing and still one of the best DCI brass performances.
