Grain Surfboards
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 2 ต.ค. 2007
We build wood surfboards that surf great, step lightly on the planet, and last a lifetime. Big thanks to all the folks who have sent us video or posted great stuff for us to add to the Grain TH-cam Channel.
Meet Joe Murphy
Joe recently finished his 3rd grain surfboard and we're so glad he shared a little bit about his experience with us and with you!

dream board!
Epic! nice film!
Can someone please explain to me what the Grain logo is?
it's a bench plane, he is using a variant of it on the cork
@@irpeterson Thank you!!
Do the cork rails make it heavier then the wood strip rails?
This is the board I want
Incredible board … work of art
Would this be good for a kid/beginner?
This would be more suitable for someone who has a little bit of experience, but it's large volume does make catching waves very easy. Kids could likely ride a smaller board.
That is beautiful! I’m dying to try out one of your boards.
What wood is being used in this build? My next board is going to be a blonde and i really like the grain pattern in this one.
We use primarily Northern White Cedar, with a little bit of reclaimed Western Red Cedar for accent stripes
Sick board!
I’m watching all the videos and taking some screen grabs and notes for working on my sapling. I zoomed in at the note in the board... can’t help but wonder if you remembered whatever you had to do on the 15th at 3pm. Lol. Thanks for putting these videos together! Appreciate it.
haha that was a note about when one of the rail pieces was glued down...at 3pm, so we could remember when it would be ready for the next one!
Thanks so much for this video I need help with tying ropes. I am clamping a large table with ropes and your strap is the closest so far to the application I have Can you tell me about a way to wrap a rope around a table that can create clamping strength? The problems I am having is that -I need to tie the rope as a loop (tie its end to its start) -I need it to tighten like the ratchet mechanism (when I pull it tightens and conserve strength and don't get lose)
This may be a bit late, but the "trucker's hitch" is a knot that might be what you're looking for. Just Google it and you'll find instructions for how to tie it. All you need are stable places to hook your rope into (like hooks on the side of the table). A very useful knot for making a loop at the end of a rope (i.e. a fixed-size loop which does not shrink when the rope is pulled) is called the "bowline" knot. It's worth it to know these two knots 🙂 Hope it helps
You guys did a GREAT job with these tips. Very nice!!!
Awesome kits! Thank you for the tricks&tips.
I'd love to try that board for body surfing .
Nice vid
why did he cut his hair?
SE VEN HERMOSAS LAS TABLAS PERO SERAN BIEN PESADAS ASI SEAN HUECAS EL PESO ES UN FASTIDIO
Hi Grain. Great vid. What board is the "producer" riding at the end? I really wish you had more videos of your boards in the water. I've scoured your site, and the web. Hard to make a buying decision ;)
Hey guys great video! I know im late but any ideas of what song this is? The acoustic one?
Love the music!!! who plays it??
Hi there, I´m a great fan of your work! This surfboards take the surf to another level, not like foam boards produced in mass scale! I would like to build one, probably not as good as yours, but would be a great experience. Ricardo from Brazil!
Sickest boar I've ever seen! Hands down
toxicity, uke or mandolin cover, great song acousticly!! yewwwww
Congrats guys!
Oh I wish I could be there, I send my congrats from the Haida Gwaii, BC, Kudos Grain Surfboards, keep up the great work!! Hope that we get to meet one day!
beautiful
can you give me details? where in oz?
wheres that?
fuckin amazing
These look great untill you crack it and water gets in hollow and wooden isnt the answer these are better off used for decoration.
That can easily be repaired. Like a regular board you just have to dry it out and then repair the laminate. If anything it's less risky than foam because they have a vent port. Any water left in your foam board after repair, and it will delaminate if it gets hot.
anyone know who the musics by and what its called?
No truer statement has been made, "Don't try surfing unless you're prepared to change your life"
Just finished fixing my dads 5'4 fish, so stoked to ride it soon
That is one SWEET OLD SCHOOL FISH!!
I definitely do not like the two piece stringer, I would change that to a single piece. The stringer is the backbone and should be one continuous piece.
i need this board man!
Hey guys quick question. Which Grain Kit are you working on?
Can't wait to see part 5! Nice works guys.
I love Maine. I lived there for seven years -by far my favorite state in the U.S. These boards you're making are quite beautiful. I started carpentry when I lived and surfed in Maine. I've often thought of making a wooden surfboard. What worries me about hollow core construction is what happens when it's pierced by a rock or another's fin? Does the whole thing fill up with water and later de-laminate? How can it be dried out? I'm thinking a solid (light wood) wooden board is safer.
@JAVI3R1980 It would have looked like kindling if it went into those rocks at the shore. Leashes aren't worn for fashion, they're insurance.
The haircut was LONG overdue...lol
that is just plaining BEAUTIFUL!!!!
Really cool board and great surfing. Would have looked nicer with no leash
Javier Bellido yeah the leash really punished it for me.
song sounds like a loop of cali p's jah rule the world speed up
@jonno69098887776766 dont mock till you try
THat was siiiiick that board looks awesome
