@TheFleetofOceans So about that carrier After the Imperial Japanese Navy finished its first purpose-built aircraft carrier the IJN Hosho, it wanted to build a second ship named IJN Shokaku. This new carrier would be very similar to Hosho itself though of course improvements to be made. Apparently two versions were considered, both with the same flight deck as Hosho, but a wider aft part for safer landings, heavier armament for both anti-surface and anti-air warfare and a slightly larger aircraft complement. To reach this the designers widened the hull and increased its length to maintain and even increase the speed. The new ship compared to Hsoho would have been armoured by 51mm belt armour to protect against destroyer calibre fire. The major difference between the two proposed (or survived proposals) was that the larger ship would have been much faster with a larger power plant though of a similar style to that of Hosho with separate oil and mixed burning boilers instead of full mixed burning that of the first variant.

I think Foxo needs to look up all the times the axis tried attacking Ark Royal with aircraft, in the med with escort from fighters before getting onto whether carriers can't manoeuvre against air attacks. Plus as a further point G3M's like most Japanese aircraft are rather prone to exploding from being shot at, plus it wouldn't be sea Gladiators at this point it be Fulmars and potentially Seafires so I have my doubts of them being able to escape even Fulmars.
