The Paths of the Warriors Peer Support and Healing with Jason Barto
In this episode of Let's Talk Dispatch, we’re joined by Jason Barto, a dedicated Peer Supporter and founder of The Paths of the Warriors. With a rich background in emergency services, Jason has served as a Ski Patroller, Firefighter, HAZMAT Specialist, and a member of Utah Task Force One. He shares his journey through some of his most critical incidents and how personal traumas have shaped his commitment to supporting First Responders.
Jason sheds light on the challenges many First Responders face when starting their healing journeys and discusses the importance of Peer Support. He also explores transformative practices such as Equine Therapy, EMDR, Shadow Work, meditation, gratitude, and culturally competent care, including smudging, chakra work, and shamanic guidance.
Join us for a powerful conversation about finding hope, healing, and strength through non-traditional paths.
Things to Consider
What stigmas or misconceptions might I hold about seeking help for mental health, and how can I challenge those beliefs?
How do I currently cope with stress or trauma, and could practices like meditation, gratitude, or shadow work enhance my healing process?
Am I willing to explore non-traditional therapies like Equine Therapy or EMDR, and how might they help me or someone I know in navigating trauma?

I thought it would just be on the grocery store? after they turned east onto hamilton? didn't know they can have a continue to eastbound thing and go past the 1st landmark
Thank you for your channel and service. Recently, I applied to a local City Police Dispatcher position in North Texas. I was required to turn in the personal history statement by January 01, 2025. I turned the paperwork on December 18, 2024. I've been working in private security since June of 2015. I have no issues with working any shifts, long shifts, or the overtime. Currently, I am listening to serval of your videos. Thank you
i’m so nervous. mine is in 3 hours
Thank you for this video🙏
What if there are things from long ago that you can't remember, you've been disciplined for tardiness, called in sick when you weren't, or attempted suicide? Would any of those disqualify you? Also how do you obtain a Certificate of Naturalization because I need to get one for the dept. I'm applying to ?
lol I'm taking my test soon thank you!!!
@The Raspy Dispatcher I was just given a conditional offer with my county and now have to complete a Psych Evaluation. What can I expect from this? I don’t think I’ve ever completed one before. I believe this is the last step I need to complete before being considered a true Trainee. I am confident that I’ll be fine but am very curious since I have read that people have failed at this stage. Thanks in advance!
Great channel. Do you think a single mom with a young kid could be a dispatcher, without the ability to work night and weekend shifts?
As a retired Dispatcher, Dispatcher Trainer, Dispatcher Supervisor, Dispatch Manager and Division Manager, you hit the nail on the head with this video. Good job! Very useful information.
thank you for sharing the voices of dispatchers! i’m currently going through backgrounds to be a trainee in my city and your videos have been beyond helpful. thank you so much!
I'm taking the exam in March in NYC. I'm worried about my medical and psychological exam. Not the multiple choice. 😂 Isn't that something.
I feel like I'd be so good at this job but everyone on reddit says it wrecked them 😭
So good keep going
Hello, i'm deciding if I want to apply to be a 911 dispatcher. I'm just scared haha
Proud to have been part of this video! Thank you for all your efforts to show people what we do!
God bless you ❤
Coming back months later to say that I got two job offers after watching your videos. Thank you!
Hello. I am a current applicant for my local county. I have completed my PHS and my background officer just submitted my background check to whomever it may concern. My question is: Are the questions on my polygraph (irrelevant not included) limited to only the questions submitted in my PHS? will there be additional questions?
Your Polygrapher can ask you anything during the polygraph test, typically it is pulled from the history provided to them. They are yes and no questions only and you are generally given them before the test begins.
@The Raspy Dispatcher I just passed my critical test! I took the test a few times years ago but am excited to finally be chosen to move onto the interview/shadowing stage! Your videos have been very helpful and I will be watching many more to help me prepare for my interview!
Congrats and sending you all the good vibes through the rest of your process!
I see questions, but i don't see a map in the pdf. @theraspydispatcher
My panel interview is in 3 days… wish me luck! I am super excited
You got this!!
Thank you so much! I have my test this Thursday.
You are so welcome sending all the good vibes!
Thank you!!
You are so welcome!
Oh I’ll ask this question today
Awesome!
Got an interview today
Im sure you did great!
Thank you so much for all the info! I’ve been through all the steps leading up to my initial background interview(which is tomorrow!!) your insight has helped a lot with my nerves and what to expect and hope for!
You are so welcome!
God bless you for what you do! My dad was a police officer and there'd be days id beg him not to go to work 😢! I wanted to become a cop like him but i think God has other plans for me! One way i can serve God is by being a dispatcher! I mean im not there but there ar the same time! Pray for me as i find my calling in life! God bless y'all in Jesus name Amen 🙏
Good luck in your process ! So glad you found our channel!
@TheRaspyDispatcher Thank you 🙏❤️
Thanks, for your videos. I start training here in Ohio in January 2024.
Welcome to the Thin Gold Line Family!
Thank you very much for this outline. I'm taking my test in 2 weeks and this helps with my preparation! 😊
You are so welcome you got this!
Omg I wished I came across your podcast a long time ago, this preparation I did not know. I had my first 911 dispatch interview with a desired department but I have doubt I didn’t do very well. I still attempted and answered all their questions they asked me. I was not prepared enough which I’m beating myself for. I have 3 to 4 years of dispatch experience working for a college university on the Public safety level not exactly 911 but I wish I would have came across this source of information much sooner. I’m still waiting for my results and it’s been a week. I would love to get a second chance but it feels like you only get 1 chance 😢
Apply for more agencies and dont get discouraged if you have to apply again LOTS of people have to give it a few trys!
@@TheRaspyDispatcherthank you, I’ll keep that in mind.
hey! any update? 🥹
“It’s not an emergency, but…” (Call the Non Emergency Line) “Can’t you just map me?” (They Can’t) [I think] “I didn’t call 911” (Well someone did, could be you with your short term memory loss) “Is this 911?” (You dialed 9-1-1 into the keypad, so of course)
hahah You understand!
Great video . I wish they had schools/ training here in California LA area .
I have always had a passion for helping people as a 911 Dispatcher, it was a dream of me to become one. Ever sense I had 2 seizures in my room 😭😭😭😭my mom and brother were on the phone with 911 Dispatchers who kept them calm the entire time when I was shaking in front of them and that made me strive to help save others lives as a Dispatcher. I looked up videos concerning 911 Dispatchers to learn about becoming a Dispatcher because I really want to be one and I found you. My boyfriend is one and both of you are helping me so far, I just applied for a Dispatcher position, I haven’t heard anything from them yet, I have butterflies in my stomach but just wanted to say thank you for these Tips they was very helpful ❤️❤️❤️❤️oh yes I forgot to mention I am a new subscriber too; however, I will be watching more of your videos now.
I am so glad you found us ! The journey into this role is long so buckle up! Sending you all the good vibes!
😂😂😂❤❤❤ #accurate. One month left of training and my family and friends and kids all think I've legitimately gone insane or snapped. My ditz tendency has become full fledged can't remember anything at all ever that isn't coding or call related hahaa
hahahaha ! You got this!
RIP❤
❤❤❤
Wait, where can I access the panel handbook for an interview guide?
Winning over the panel can be purchased at theraspydispatcher.com
Imagine the number of people she helped and the lives she saved. My prayers are with Priscilla's family and her Dispatch family.

Is this the same as the Nex Test?
Different programs but testing on the same things
Terrific video RD! The only suggestion I have after watching some of your videos is to bring up the level on your audio. The content of your videos is very good and educational for dispatchers and communication officers.
Great feedback we are in the process of reshooting our videos as we have learned much about media since then haha!
Hi! i’m currently going to do a polygraph next week and i will admit that in the past i was peer pressured into certain things that i was not very comfortable in wanting to do will that automatically disqualify me?
Usually when you enter the polygraph section you have already submitted your backgrounds and have already told the department everything. Theoretically at this point you should not be disclosing any new information so the polygraph is only reaffirming what you have already disclosed.
I have a question, is there like a certain degree or program you have to go into to be able to be a 911 dispatcher.
Nope, not at all. It is entry level and departments train in house so no degree or certification needed but more and more we are seeing higher ed programs starting up that allow for certification before entering a role but it is usually not a requirement
Oh my gosh!! I really needed to hear this 🥹 it’s been tough getting criticism for 12 hours at a time, 4 days a week and trying so hard to remember everything I’m told. Surviving day to day and praying it gets easier ❤️
It really is tough and it will get better!! I'm so glad this found you !
Well spoken ❤ i just had my panel interview yesterday im hoping to hear good news soon
Sending all the good vibes your way!
@@TheRaspyDispatcher update : I got my offer letter today to start Decembers academy I'm so excited and thankful and will be watching more of your videos to prepare me for what's yet to come THANK YOU ♥️♥️♥️ from Arkansas
This is a fascinating guest. I love hearing about the way his career has played out over time. It's incredibly inspiring.
It was such a good episode!
You have no idea how helpful you are. Blessings.
I am so glad you found it helpful!
If post is all done in paper does this mean all this training won't really help? Or will we be able to use computer during the post test? Or should I be writing all of this down in paper with the data entry? I am using job test prep to prepare and using your resources as well but since I am doing the POST test idk if this can help :(
It will help, just the way you submit your answers is different, typing in general is good because no matter how you submit the test, you will still be typing in the job.
Hi! Thank you so much for your videos! I am preparing for the Criticall test and am trying to download your PDF but I don't see one called "Critical Criticall" on the link to your website. I do see 3 dispatch practice tests, a map practice and panel interview prep worksheets. Is it one of these or am I missing something? Thank you for your help
That is an outdated pdf it has been replaced with a career in dispatch, good luck in your process!
Hi I have a question. I’m applying to be Cal Fire dispatcher. Do you know if this dispatch position is much different than 911 dispatcher?
It is not much different at all just working in the fire department so would be dealing with fire and medical 911 dipatching rather then criminal
You are awesome for doing this!
I am so glad you found the videos helpful!
