    I had this procedure yesterday. It was horrific. I’m in agony now and unable to walk far so sat on the sofa watching this video! They want me back under a general but no way am I going back. I don’t understand why the technology hasn’t been developed to make the instruments smaller. I was ok until the cutting equipment was introduced, then the pain was a full 10. I’m not a wimp, I’ve had four children.

    I refuse to do these procedures without general anesthesia. Gynos, female and male, don't seem to care very much about the pain women experience from gynecological procedures. It's almost like they think we deserve the pain. My doctor suggested general anesthesia because she's sure she'll do a D&C, which is very painful (my mom had several for miscarriages). If things get too painful, I'm calling it off and leaving.

    What exactly is hysteroscopy under sedation? How is it different from having it under GA?

    • @drgailbusby
      @drgailbusby 18 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @helencoates-be7pd sedation means that you are awake and conscious, but are given drugs to impair consciousness and decrease pain and decrease the memory of the procedure. You are in control of your own airway etc. General anaesthetic means you are completely asleep with your breathing etc done for you.

      @drgailbusby thank you so much for your reply. I'm wondering how a spinal block would fit into this as you would still be awake and aware but not feel anything from the waist down (as I was given for a caesarean ). Wouldn't this solve the problem of having no pain but also being aware and being able to see what was happening therefore preferable to a GA? I had it yesterday. Without any pain management. It was painful for 4 seconds at some point. Worst cramp of my life. Then it was gone. But I do have a higher pain tolerance. The doctor, the nurses were incredible and they made me feel at ease because I was anxious and crying when I arrived. They did offer me gas when I experienced pain but I did not take it because they were already finishing. I also had a cervical and uterine biopsy. Later I took 400mg ibuprofen and went home to rest. I was blessed with a great team of professionals. I still think it's best to have some type of pain management as part of this.

    The constant pauses in this video reveal that this person has seen many, many women in distress while the nurses try to distract them asking about their holiday. Everyone should be given a patient leaflet explaining that it is their right to ask for a GA. I have twice suffered agony when this has been done with no pain relief offered. The second time, I wasn’t even told that they were going to take a biopsy with no pain relief or sedation. Joined a group called Campaign Against Painful Hysteroscopies. Men would not be expected to have such an invasive, barbaric procedure without pain relief.

Still got quite bad cramping pain two days on but very pleased with my decision to have a GA - - if you are worried about this proceedure ask for pain relief or anesthesia - don't suffer in silence. Personally found the transvaginal ultrasound very painful proceeding this which is why I went for a GA. Good luck everyone being female has its moments, so best to share our common experiences to help each other.

    Im Post menopausal and went for a general anesthesia hysteroscopy today for removal/biopsy of polyps. The doctor could not get through my cervix. He wrote: Indication for Surgery: Postmenopausal bleeding, scan found endometrial thickness and a uterine polyp Procedure: Position: Lithotomy Anaesthesia: General Anaesthesia Findings Normal looking vagina and vlulva full inspection of the vagina and vulva done with the vaginoscope good view achieved. No defined cervix noted however the firm area in the anterior area found . gently tried to insert the camera through a supposedly cervical os but very stenosed and not able to enter used half size dilators small cx os to try to dilate but not possible to dilate - almost a frozen wall instead of a pinhole multiple attempts made. Ultrasound scan guided dilatation attempted but not successful. It is very likely that this is not only stemnosed cervix but completely closer cervix and will need an excision of cervix to be able to enter the uterine cavity or to consider alternative means to check for endometrial health and removal of polyp . Normal looking cervix What do you recommend? I did not like that he wrote it was almost a frozen wall instead of a pinhole.

    Thank you, this is an excellent video, probably the most honest and compassionate I’ve ever seen on hysteroscopy. Most of the videos on here are dreadful, telling women it’s painless (!!!), mildly uncomfortable and other such lies. This video is straightforward and reassuring. If only all gynaes did their jobs like this - but sadly most seem to adopt the “it’s only a woman, she’ll have to put up with it” attitude. So ladies, stand up for your rights - no-one is entitled to cause you pain like this. Advocate for yourself and refuse to be treated like your feelings don’t matter

      I’d also like to add that showing the instruments used was very helpful and whilst they are long, they are also narrow - tho I assume you showed a vaginoscope? which should be used, but seldom is unfortunately. The more honest, open information like this that women are given, the truer their consent will be and the less frightened they will be. It may put some off going thru with the procedure, but that’s not a reason to withhold information, that’s a reason to improve pain control. There is little that is more frightening than unexpected pain - you assume that something has gone wrong - at least if you know it might be painful, you can decide for yourself whether it’s right for you or not

    Abnormal endometrial thickening with a suspected focal endometrial mass, potentially a polyp or malignancy. Recommend gynecological correlation for possible malignancy. Small mildly complicated left ovarian cyst, measuring 1.5 cm. UTERUS: No focal myometrial abnormality is seen. ENDOMETRIAL COMPLEX: The endometrium is heterogenous and thickened at up to 18 mm by my measurement. A suspected focal ovoid hyperechoic structure within the endometrium measures approximately 1.4 x 1.5 x 0.8 cm. Nabothian cysts are also noted. Hi, above are some of my notes from US. I am 47 and still have regular periods. At time of US was 17 days since first day of last period. I dont have my biopsy till mid next month so am a little worried in the meantime. Can you offer any insight of how concerning my results are or are they just more standard talk and precautionary? From my google search it sounds like a hyperechoic structure is usually benign so am thinking it should be ok right? Also I am finding so many variables online as to what is considered thickening. some seem to indicate 18mm normal si it is a little confusing. Originally I went in to Dr for spotting in between period and a lot of pelvic pain. This month I have had no spotting at all but lots of pelvic pain. A few cycles ago had extreme clotting. BTW my trans vaginal US was excruciating, very weird so am worried about pain tolerance for any procedures to come. Thank you

    How about trying Vitamin B-1, I have seen on You Tube that B - 1 is successful.

    Recently had one. They were going to use a general but I said I’d prefer conscious sedation converting to general, if needed. Went great without converting to general and never felt a thing until conscious. Uncomfortable but pain controlled with just Tylenol. Couldn’t imagine without any anesthesia!
