I am sorry for her experience in life being of a non common race in Mexico. But I don’t think this is the experience of 99% of Mexicans. Who are mostly mestizos. It is very interesting information, but very abrasive coming from someone that is only working on her thesis (not even in history or sociology) and giving out her opinions from a very very particular situation. I would’ve loved a more seasoned speaker with lots of work under his/her belt. (There are thousands of PHDs who would love a platform). A more understanding approach based on science instead of opinions. I also don’t like judging people from other eras, it would’ve been nicer if this had an approach on present politicians, education system, etc. instead of policies from the 30s…. I hope the conversation stays open , good video!

Yes a small group of people definitely managed to mix up the majority. Logically impossible. Federico Navarrete, Historian, Anthropologist UNAM - Between 1821 and 1910: 3.5 million Indigenous people were categorized as Mestizo. •By the time the Mexican census of 1930 took place: 30% of the entire Mexican population who has been categorized as Indigenous, was now categorized as “Mestizo.” Historians argue that this was also done to repress “Casta Wars” and erase the power of the Indigenous population. The white elites feared that they would lose power. •Mestizaje was not a racial reality but rather a “massive linguistic displacement.” Indigenous people were whiten through language and culture markers, not racial.

In my opinion to improve this topic I believe certain terms like “white washing” is perhaps a little strong for this sensitive topic and may gain negative reaction due to terms that sound a bit aggressive towards a particular type. I would say they have changed his pigment and Europeanized his features in the attempt to make him look less of african origins.

Mexico's asian root goes well before Mexico's independence. You need to take in consideration the Galeón of Manila trading route, where many Mexicans (Criollos, indians, blacks and mestizos mainly) went to Manila and many Filipinos and Chinese came to the New Spain.
