What is Low Point?
To visualise this, think of your golf swing as an arc. The low point is the bottom of that arc, ideally occurring just after the ball. For most skilled players, this point is around 3-4 inches after the ball when using irons. If your swing is inconsistent, your low point may vary significantly, leading to poor contact and erratic shots.
Why is Low Point Important?
When your low point is too far behind the ball, you risk hitting the ground before the ball, resulting in fat shots. Conversely, if your low point is too far forward, you might thin the shot or top it altogether. High-level players can control their low point within half an inch, while those with higher handicaps may be off by 6 inches or more. This can lead to a wide dispersion pattern in your shots and cause unnecessary frustration on the course.
Identifying Your Low Point
Let’s take a closer look at how to identify and assess your low point. One effective method is to use a Trackman or any similar technology to measure your low point during practice. For example, if you see a low point of 2.6 inches before the ball, it indicates that your swing is bottoming out too early.
In contrast, if you can achieve a low point of 3.7 inches after the ball, you’re making much better contact. This means you’re hitting the ball first and then the ground, leading to a more efficient strike.
Common Mistakes with Low Point
Many golfers struggle with the concept of low point due to common mistakes like casting the club or staying stuck on the back foot. These habits can lead to poor strikes as players often try to help the ball into the air. Instead, the focus should be on creating a downward strike and allowing the club to do the work.
Drills to Improve Your Low Point
Now that we understand the importance of low point, let’s explore some simple drills to help you improve your ball striking:
Towel Drill
Take a towel and place it about 5 inches behind the ball.
As you swing, aim to miss the towel. This encourages you to shift your weight forward onto the ball.
Initially, you might still hit the towel, but with practice, you should be able to consistently miss it.
Using Trackman for Feedback
Utilising Trackman can provide real-time feedback on your low point. You can toggle the settings to show only the low point, allowing you to see exactly where you’re striking the ground in relation to the ball. This instant feedback is invaluable for making adjustments.
Understanding the Impact of Setup
Your setup plays a crucial role in controlling your low point. Here are a few key elements to focus on:
Ball Position
Ensure your ball position is correct. For most iron shots, place the ball just inside your lead heel. This will help you strike the ball before reaching the low point of your swing arc.
Weight Distribution
At setup, aim for a slight forward tilt in your hips and shoulders, with around 55-60% of your weight on your lead side. This encourages a downward strike and helps maintain a consistent low point.
Body Alignment
Check your body alignment. If your hips or shoulders are misaligned, it can drastically affect your swing path and low point. Make sure they are stacked correctly and aligned towards your target.
Practicing on the Course
When you’re out on the course, it can be challenging to see where your low point is. A great way to practice is to scratch a line in the turf or use a tee to mark your target line. Aim to strike the ground just after this line, focusing on your body’s movement and where the club makes contact with the ground.

Mizuno's HOTTEST Irons? We Take A Look At The NEW JPX925 Irons!
I've had my ZXi5 irons for 2 months now, Love them...admittedly playing more golf now but handicap down from 26 to 15. Very happy.
Great to hear! Nice work
Should be telling people about the acoustics. I have the zxi ls and the sound is far to tingy for a 2025 driver. Sound like a Nike driver from ten years ago
Must admit - didn’t pick up on it being that bad.
I didn’t tell my Playing partners I had a new driver in the bag, first tee shot and every single one said “wtf is that”. The LS version is a lot louder than the other two for some reason. The head has no carbon so was always going to be tingy
I’m a 15 handicap (low 90s swing speed ) and just went through a fitting and this was the best fit. The 925 forged was off for me, the t150s were close but numbers, control and most importantly my confidence was through the roof. I respect the opinion and appreciate the content but I think people need to be focused on the feel of the club. I’ve been watching a bunch of videos on new clubs and really was off-put when my fitter told me to give the s-3 a swing but they really were the best option. Unsolicited advise for your viewers, get into a fitting, hit every head and shaft combo you can and find that combo that works for your game.
We’ve said this for years. We can fit a club and tell you what performs best but if you don’t enjoy the feel or even the look it’s wasted. Hence why we encourage to try plenty of choices!
nice simple test. would the Wilson Dyna power and the Cleveland 2 and the tour Edge be comparable? I'm thinking similar price point, were as the QI, Call, and ping are in a a group on there own with performance and price.
We should get Wilson soon!
This retails at £499 so same price point as callaway and tm, more expensive than cobra
Looks like MP 18
Srixon are the best
ye faster that last year How much faster? Ye faster that last year. How much faster? We like to tell a story . hard to say, Tighter dispersion by 2.7y longer by 2.7y easier to hit
Just ordered my zxi4 iron set 5 to pw fitted by Owen at your Kettering store very excited.
Amazing - thanks Simon… enjoy! And great choice 😍
Are you local to NorCal? I would like to get a fitting scheduled.
Sorry we’re around Cambridge UK! Definitely try them though and let us know how you get on
Thanks! Quick question how would these compare to JPX 925? I'm mostly looking at Zxi5.
I owned the Z765 and found the swing weight to be a bit low. I wonder if these are heavier?
I have both the G430's and just bought the G730's. The biggest difference is that it's MUCH easier to get through the ball with the 730's. Forgiveness? Yes! Plus the 730's are at least 15 yards better on the 9 iron. The combination of moving down to senior flex plus the lighter 45g shaft, along with streamlined design, means better accuracy. I like the looks too. Worth the $1200 I spent for 7 iron through 56. Also, as you get a little older, get refitted! My hands don't work as well in my 70's, so I need all the help I can get. New clubs are a little more upright and I went with the midsize CP2 wrap. So far, so good. !!!!
Great setup! Enjoy them 😃
Would be great if you could do a video comparing Elyte vs G440 and potentially the new Srixons . Also, would there be a susbstantial difference in metrics if you compare the G440 standard vs retro spec ?
We can do that for you! In February we will release a lot of head to heads! I’d be happy to do a fitting video on G440 with std, power and retro lofts too!
Looking forward 👍🙏💪
I bought the new T150 irons last spring.Great looking iron.I hit these irons higher and farther then the older 718teens. Same swing same guy.
WOW!
You just shifted path by 5 degrees. You didn’t change face angle.
Tried both the Ping i530 and Zxi5 recently and really stuck between the two clubs, loved the look and feel of Srixon however the biggest difference was carry distance - I lost roughly 10 yards per club (Hitting at the same swing speed) any advice on what to go for?
Can you strengthen the lofts on Zxi5 to give you distance feel ? Is distance most important?
I watched the ball stats when you were hitting that S3 7i...at 7:55 was shaking my head a bit on the carry distance and total distance...then I looked at the approach angle...51.7!! Wow. Nothing feels like a Mizuno.
thanks
Great video! Really enjoy your content. Curious how you would rate/compare the zxi5 v the t200 which u know your a huge fan of, as am I and currently game them. I was amazed with the t200 for only having a 7 iron swing speed of upper 70’s, the ball speed, distance and consistency I get with such a compact head. Good strike typical carry 160 with 7 iron. If I were to switch, would be for little more forgiveness on off center strikes. Srixon always intrigued me and curious on your thoughts between two? In past iterations zx5 models were club shorter than the 23’ t200 I game which is why never gamed them
Thanks Jason, will be close with ZXI, I think you will really see this be competitive, however t200 is tough to beat so will be a close call on test. I guess the real question is what are you looking for that t200 doesn't give you/
Thank you for prompt reply! Little more forgiveness on off center hits as a 12 handicap. But t200 are tough to beat
I was just fit at club champions with my top 2 as Zxi5 and t200s. They were so close but I had tighter dispersion on Zxi5 which came from more forgiving (distance, direction and feel) on toe side hits which are my current miss. Stiff shaft UST darts 120g. Really liked them both though
Thank you for sharing. How was your distance comparatively and did you find ball speed, distance and spin numbers Similiar?
@@jasondipasquale8960 I had better height on the ZXi 5s, very similar overall otherwise. T200 averaged a little shorter but it was really dispersion being wider front to back on shots I hit a little fat. I'm a bit of a digger, so the Zxi5 sole helped me more on the slightly fat shots. While the T200s punished me just a bit more on those with lower height, spin and distance. I would have been very happy with picking up either though. The feel on the T200s were great in the sweet spot as well, but different, more "clicky" than the buttery feel of the Srixon. Loved them both. But I highly recommend a full professional fitting. I couldn't hit the T200s at all last year. My swing has gotten better, since then, but the shaft and swing weight matter so much more than I realized!
I like your honesty
Lmao try as they might they will never produce a better looking iron than the Wilson Staff Model blade....
Nice review. Are they much better than the 425? I game it still and think it’s excellent. Have to say if these offer same forgoveness but more speed then I may be interested
tough one as 425 was great product, I would certinaly get into a fitting bay and test
61 yo. Bad hip and knees. Out growing Cleveland Xl Halo Launcher any recommendations?
Srixon ZXi 4 are incredible and a more player aspiring profile but will incredible power and forgiveness
I'm a Srixon staff player and have played the ZX MkII irons since 2023 and they are the best forged irons on the market but these new ZXi Irons take it to another level. The feel, sound, distance and accuracy are outstanding. Give them a try and watch how much your iron game improves.
Thanks for adding this Keith! Incredible irons
I had a look at the specs of the 923 and the 925 and they are virtually the same size heads. They have the same amount of offset. They are pretty much the same club. I'll be saving a lot of money if I buy the 923 forged.
Funny…. LS is me… 268 carry. K is not for me… 278 carry…. Max D not for me… 280+ Maybe reconsider what’s for you…? Could have taken 5 seconds to adjust the adapter to dial in the K. Enjoyed the comments and review.
Absolutely and we will be doing more reviews with clubs dialled in
Great review as always waiting to the heads to come into Royston. Going try out and be fitted for the Callaway or the G440.
Thanks Simon hopefully by the middle of the week
Thanks Alan
@ thank you it's a choice between the Callaway and the Ping. I will try them both and buy one with a fitting. Love my new Square to Square putter thank you.
What do you think of these vs the ZXi5 irons?
The new G440 like the callaway Elyte certainly gives off more of mid-better players iron profile - rather than a typical “game improver” so comparing them in looks isn’t way off the mark. Number similar, both offer forgiveness (ping would win on that though) - the forged face off ZXi5 feel pure. Both contenders
Nicklaus had his left ear lower at address, also it never did big John Daly any harm over swinging a little.
Yeah, they’re also some of the best players…
Looks like the 919 Tour iron. The best tour model they made.
Pure 🔥
Top Line exactly the same. Look at the specs page on Srixon. They did a great job to make the ZXi line interchangeable at address besides the offset.
The best clubs I’ve owned
😍
I would think you swing it plently fast enough to play that club. The question is whether you could accept less yardage than what you're playing currently with your irons. I personally made that choice a few years ago with no regrets, and i have a similar swing speed to you. They will will go a more consistent distance, hold more greens out of rough, and you can hit them softer and still hold the green. Yes you lose forgiveness, but you gain feedback with does improbe your ball striking over time
If I was playing more then 100% I would be fine with that. But for the amount I’m playing on course I’m used to my stock yardages so wouldn’t want to re calibrate at this moment in time…. But 100% see the value in doing so for this irons consistency! 👍🏻
Forged face
Hey, I am a regular viewer of your TH-cam channel. I came here to say that- Your content is always engaging and incredibly well-presented!" Good luck to you
Thank you
Is this tip just for driver or can it be used for irons too?
This example was more for the driver. In essence it works for irons but you want to ensure any tilt doesn’t effect the low point of the swing…. I.e hitting up early / hitting ground early 👍🏻
Currently gaming original ZX5s which took me from 12 to 8hcp but now thinking of a ZX4/ZX5 Combo or moving to the Ping I525 as looking for more distance less effort in the longer irons but want more better accuracy in the shorter Irons ? Would the ZXi combo compensate ?
100% Zxi combo could be awesome,
How would you compare these to the 245s? What does one do better than the other
Ones a lot more cost effective for start. Forged is such an underrated iron for me, everyone jumps on the hollow 245 , but this iron is just as powerful as 245
Interesting 🧐 I like Srixon balls the soft feel AD333 the Q star but I lost my two Q star balls but I find the AD333 a brilliant what I call a £2 ball best ever £2 ball I lost the Z star also that’s like a Pro V1X heavy ball £5 balls I call them , love finding golf balls . I like both soft and heavy balls . Nice to hear clubs are a affordable price . I’m definitely looking to upgrade to a Srixon I’m a high handicapper but I’m improving fast . So I need the ZX4i but what I might do is get a Srixon ZX the old ones which might be cheaper now this ZXi has come out You said the Seixon’s feel like butter 🧈 that’s great to hear 👂 I recon you had the old ones in mind also from experience of hitting them clubs Iv got very old clubs hand me downs from my older brother and dad 20 year old Howson Attack clubs 6 7 9 SW Howson Aggression PW also 6 iron 5 iron . I lost some clubs both 8 irons so I had to buy a 8 iron online . Hunter Howson it’s called I’m so used to them Howson steel irons the weight is important to me . I havnt hit any other club . But Hippo took over Howson . Maybe Srixon will be a good thing I’m thinking 🤔 I have to jump shit to another brand . That’s so nuts lol the club they ain’t even around anymore them Howson I mostly hit my 7 iron . I wonder how further the ball would go from 20 plus years ago clubs to recent clubs . I’m decades behind lol 😂 but I’m getting good with old clubs . I’m looking to break say 95 or even 90 with these Howsons for now , but the weather is like ice ❄️ out their at the mo . A lot more difficult to play in the cold but it’s half doable still though
You’ll definitely enjoy hitting the ZXi 4 or even the ZX4! Fantastic clubs!
Great review. How do you think it compares with last years G430
G430 max 10k will still offer the most stability- but you can expect more speed in this with incredible stability!
Beautiful!
It’s the same blue as the G30 line, so lets call it G30 blue!
Do you hit down on it?
depends on the swing,
Nice comparison video. Since both of these irons are marketed for mid to high handicap, it would have nice to see intentional toe and heel strikes to see how they compare for how they are designed. Also include screen shots of the impact area on the heads.
We will definitely take that feedback onboard- thanks 👍🏻
Great review Ping make great products but for me I have never liked the turbulators and looks wise not much change. I shall wait for your test on the new Wilson Dynapwr. Which should be £80-100 cheaper.
Thanks Seve! As soon as we have it to review it will be done for you 👍🏻
@ Many thanks a review worth waiting for!
RRP $/£200 per club, pretty standard pricing amongst the big manufacturers nowadays and still cheaper than 245s. Weird that you'd say they're seriously expensive / not cheap... they aren't Miuras. Also if you put them in the bag for 4+ years, they work out cheaper 😉
Good way of thinking of it 😃 anything over £200 is definitely a considered purchase and up there when you consider the cost of ZXi as a comparison 👍🏻
@@AFGOLFSTORE Good point and I agree, £200 for an iron is certainly up there. Ridiculous that it's become almost the norm for the flagship new releases from the big brands 😫
I think I’ll stick with my Takomo 301 Combos. Half the price and does the same exact thing.
As far as I know, the ZXi5 and ZXi7 are fully forged, only the ZXi4 that face is forged only.
Zxi7 or S3’s?? 👀
S3’s are significantly closer to blades than Zxi7 which are far more forgiving by comparison I gamed some JPX 923 Tours for a year as a low single-digit handicap, but I would only consider something like a Zxi7 or Pro 243 in the future. They are just so much more forgiving that there is no point in gaming blades anymore. You are sacrificing almost nothing by comparison to blades and gaining a ton of forgiveness
@BigDawgCAM so would you say the ZXi7’s are closer to a 243 or closer to the new JPX925 Forged??
@ Great question! I would say Pro 243 because the JPX 923 are closer to game improvement. I would strongly recommend Ping i230, Cobra Limit3d/King Tour, Mizuno 243, and Srixon Zxi7 based on some independent data testing I’ve seen. All in the “players distance” category
Great question. For starters they both feel great. On look and feel I’m on the fence. With the numbers I’m edging ZXi as it gives me the outcome I’m personally looking for. Definitely worth trying both
I would go with 243 just
you should show the height in the data ;)
Great idea
