Wow, I Have NEVER Seen Or Heard Of This Fight.
More organised crime from a German arena. Suerland or Universum promotions. Organised crime. Paul Smith, Martin Murray, Mathew Macklin, Charles Brewer. Edison Miranda(1st fight v Abraham) To name but a few to be blatantly ripped off over there. Mathew Barney won 11 of the 12 rounds over there (vs Thomas Ulrich) and still 'lost'. Im still surprised Tyson Fury got the decision there. But the ref was on his case for anything desperate to penalise points and hopefully dq him
Thanks for posting this. It turned out to be Alfonso Gomez's last fight and was a nice encapsulation of his career. This was a mild upset final win for him where he showed his ability to box in a fan-friendly way(as usual) but also showed his heart and smarts at the end of the fight when Kamegai's relentless pressure slowed him down enough for Kamegai to land some solid shots. For Kamegai, he went on to have a couple more fan-friendly wars with Jesus Soto-Karass and got a title shot against Cotto, where like here he was badly outboxed but kept coming. While he was lacking in skills, particularly on defense, Kamegai had one of the best chins around and a lot of heart. If he could have adopted some more intelligence with his pressure and just a bit of defense, he might have won a belt with the right matchup.
