Cruising Freja
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 20 พ.ย. 2021
We are cruising our luxury trawler-style yacht, a Fleming 85, through Asia and onwards to Europe.
Goodbye Philippines and welcome into our Pilothouse.
FREJA our beautiful Fleming 85 departs from the Philippines in this episode. We give a run down of our PILOTHOUSE navigation gear which is a Furuno and Simrad parallel system. We've had many requests to see more of the interior and instead of a quick walk through we try to give you more detailed snippets over the coming months.

Fleming 85 'Freja' Maiden Voyage
มุมมอง 43Kหลายเดือนก่อน
We commissioned the build of a Fleming 85 Yacht also named Freja and replacing our Fleming 65. The build was two and a half years and consumed us. The result is a magnificent cruising yacht that we intend to live aboard and travel extensively. We started in Taiwan and headed south to the Philippines and spent time in Luzon, Mindoro, Coron and Palawan. This is our little tribute video to that jo...

We sold our Fleming 65 as we wait for our Flming 85 to finish it's build. We're excited but miss the water so very much. So we decided to take a dive charter in Indonesia. It was awesome and this is a little bit of what we encountered. We tried to keep it short.
First Look at the Fleming 85 in Build

We have sold our Fleming 65 and are embarking on the journey of building and taking delivery in April 2024 of a Fleming Yachts 85. We visited Taiwan in December 2022 not quite knowing what to expect and this video is our thoughts on that trip.

Part 1 of our journey out in to the Coral Sea off the Barrier Reef of Australia in our Fleming 65 Freja. Chasing great SCUBA diving, underwater photography and the opportunity for great drone footage of the coral reefs. The Fleming 65 ran flawlessly and was as always comfortable and capable.

This is our Fleming 65 Freja. We chose Fleming Yachts for their suitability to liveaboard a trawler or motor yacht. From our home we can dive, fish and explore the world.
I remember the Fleming video when you had your 55. (Great music choice, BTW). Congratulations on your new boat. In the future, I would love to hear about your solar set up and how you use it in your cruising adventures. Thanks, Darin
Hi Congratulations on your magnificent Fleming 85. I am currently getting a boat built in NZ and planning to cruise to Indonesia Malaysia and then to phuket where we will ship the boat to the Mediterranean. I noticed you were flying the flag from the Cook Islands was there much involved in registering there. Good luck with your journey. Geoff
nice
Thanks
That is an incredibly well appointed bridge, I am a smidge jealous.
Thanks for noticing. Means a lot as i put many many hours into the layout and equipment choices
Love this Fleming iwthout that closed in flybridge.
Thanks. It works for us

Thanks jack, absolutely. Perhaps DM Johanna on insta @freja_f85 We arrive Europe in April or May 2025
Congratulations on one very beautiful vessel. We hope you have many awesome years cruising Freja. We will be watching to see where she takes you. Hope to share an anchorage with you some day. Cheers!
Thank you - not every day is a postcard type of day but worth it when it is!

Absolutely we are coming to Scotland. It is high on our list (our surname is Baxter after all). Keep following and reach out when we get there.
@@cruisingfreja Awesometastic ....
As a fan of Nordhavn Videos, nice to see another brand on TH-cam with a couple solo navigating it. The fact that it's an 85 is so impressive and inspiring. Shout out from Oakland California. Got a new SUB.
Thanks for that!! We'll hit California one day in a few years, Come for a visit. Nordhavn's a great too - and the more content on TH-cam the better right?
Great film, while my TFA might stretch to a used 55 one day, and prob doesn’t matter when you run anything over 60’ what kind of consumption performance were you getting on the 85? Do you have a seakeeper? Are you running as couple or with crew? Safe watch (Lumut in Malaysia a good yard if stuck)
We have Humphree stabilisers, a Swedish company. Check them out. We typically run at 45 litres per hour and achieve 8.8 - 9.0 knots. That obviously is then affected a lot by current and tides. It's pretty good. If you slow down to 7.5 knots the consumption drops to lie 22 litres per hour (sorry if you wanted gallons per hour) :)
@@cruisingfreja perfect many thanks. Pretty good
How many crew?
We have one deck hand who takes care of running our tender, the odd watch, cleaning and detailing. He's from Papua New Guinea and a lovely young man.
Your boats bottom is immaculate. How do you keep it like that?
Easy when the water is warm and clear to jump in. But the growth does come quickly in the tropics
So great!! Thank you so much for sharing!! We are getting ready to purchase a boat next year, love your style 🎉
We wish you the absolute best. Purchase the boat that meets your needs and dont live with any regrets!
Great job you just need some work on your camera and editing quality - resolution and “jerkiness” when panning.
Thanks for the feedback, I agree the panning doesn't work - trying to shoot more from a still type of footage. Appreciate the comment
I adore your boat, but………………………..you are perfectly suited. Enjoy.
Thank you! 😃
tqvmm
You're welcome
Thank you for sharing your beautiful Fleming 85 with me. May all your journeys be safe and wonderous.
Thank you so much!
Such a great vibe in the Fleming going to nature's hidden views.
True
Fantastic boat, really like the Fleming 85. So looking forward to more Freja boat tours.
More to come! Shortly we hope
Lovely boat looking forward to seeing more thanks.
More to come! Another one on the way soon
Beautiful camera work! Nice shots with some length. So many TH-camrs jump from shot to shot that it makes you dizzy. She is a beautiful ship. Can’t wait to see more of her. Happy cruising. Safe travels!😊
Helpful comments like this are great. You words will be in my head next time I'm editing.
Fair winds and tailwinds .
Love a good tailwind. Fingers crossed
Beautifully appointed pilot house and nave station. Love that the 2 of you are driving an over 24 meter yacht. Sets a great example for me. 🙌🏻
Thank you. We appreciate your comments. More interior videos to come
What a boat and what a voyage
Off around the top of Borneo in a couple of days
Fin brygga... Är ni nöjda med elektriska stabilisatorer?
Hej! I'll reply in English - thanks. Yes we are happy with the Humphree stabilisers. The technology is good and performance also. Power consumption is low. Many good points them. Tack så mycket
*nice layout..**many blessing's..🆒💙.
Thank you! You too!
Luv the Fleming...lotto here i come .well we can all dream .ied live on a boat if i could .all the best guys
If you win lotto go for it. You wont regret it
Appreciate the walk through of your pilot house. Looking forward to seeing more of your MY.
More to come!
Would you share with us who your builders were and their contact details? Thanks in advance.
The builder was Fleming Yachts who have a dealer network in many locations. The nav gear was designed and specified by us in conjunction with Olectric (www.olectric.com). Thanks for asking
Love sailing boats.
So do I!! Classic shaped sailing yachts
I would love it if you did a video about your annual running costs. I would love to sail the world in a Fleming as well. The allure of sailing and saving money on diesel as always front of my mind though.
Actually the diesel cost is not the main driving factor. Sure it adds up over time but so does the cost of replacement sails and sheets. I haven't worked out which is cheaper - probably sailing but not by a huge margin. I spent many years on sailing yachts and loved every minute of it.
Looks like you have avoided overhead displays and kept that “clean” . I disliked that configuration as a service engineer. Trying to install or repair equipment was far more difficult. It also added to fatigue under way as you were constantly having to look up and down.
Spot on! I am not a fan of overhead displays. If looking important means something to you then put them overhead. If functionality is important don't bother.
Thanks for sharing, love your videos. Can't wait for more content.
More coming soon from the top of Borneo
Enjoyed the video. Philippines look lovely. Very well-fitted, well-thought out pilothouse. Your decision to install separate charting systems is very smart. I had a small cruiser with two different chartplotters and one chart system went down in a tight, complicated area with shallow water outside of narrow channels that I had never been in before. I was so glad to have a back-up system!
Experience dictates a lot for you and me both! Thanks for noticing the intricacy of the design and thinking process. Hoping for plain sailing but you never know.
Man I would love to be a boat like that. So relaxing, but with all the processing stuff, gets annoying I’m guessing but rewarding in the end. Just subscribed
Haha, boat life is never annoying
How many crew do you run this boat with ?
We have one young man from Papua New Guinea (Peter). He is with us for tender / deckhand work, the occasional watch, detailing, dive boat guy, etc. The boat is able to be run by two easily enough
Beautiful area beautiful boat!
It really is!
Thanks form you sharing your Journeys. Tony is proud of you, Freja has a beautiful proportion - closer to the 55 than the others. Truly Tony created a beauty.
I agree with your comment 100%. Lovely lines!!
Looking forward to a one hour walk thru of your new 85
I will let Johanna know. She'll have to open the cupboards also :)
Really well put together film. Beautiful islands too 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you. Always trying to improve without spending too many $$$ on gear
Fabulous! what are the ribs going across the bottom of the hull?
Thanks for asking. I said to my wife that someone would. They are from the cradle in the yard. Not sure why because it is antifouled. They are not speed stripes!! Well spotted tho
Thank you for showing us around the inside of your boat. Very helpful.
There is more to come. Try to make it more interesting too
Thank you for the video! Definitely a robust system lineup! A dream setup. What’s after the Philippines?
It's working well! The Simrad also gives a simple forward scan too. Next we leave in 3 days to go across the top of Borneo into Indonesia. Lots of diving but we won't bore everyone with that too much
@@cruisingfrejahaha never a bore, it’s all exciting to us! Especially for us that are working towards doing exactly what you guys are doing right now. My wife likes to dive, and that is one of our main interest to start a life of cruising. Safe travels!
Can’t wait to see the rest of the boat! Thanks for sharing.
No too far away. What next?
Love it very much! Thank you for sharing!
Thanks for watching!
First, THANK YOU so very much! For being the ONLY connection to the Fleming 85, we are looking to you - which is not fair to you. Where is Fleming?? Why isn't Burr, Chuck Hovey, etc, yelling at Fleming for doing nothing. The most important boat, the best all around cruising yacht for the owner/operator, and Fleming simply disappears? Surely I'm not the only one who's noticed this? I want a 58 more than anything, but they're too few and I'm not waiting on a new build. BTW (to Fleming), why would you offer an explorer, the only "comfortable competition" to Nordhavn;s tanks, with master staterooms in the bow? A place that's 100% useless when underway across an ocean? I'll never understand this. This makes the search for a long range Fleming w/an aft master very difficult. I think it's in poor taste that Fleming let the 1st owners of a new model, bear the brunt of what is the fault of the company for doing nothing. Great yachts, yes. But bad business is not the way to go forward. For anyone who agrees with me and wants a yacht of equal quality in every way, start looking at Marlows. They are true pieces of art and they don't let their most important customers inadvertently become spokesmen because they're simply no other option. It's very disappointing. You're boat is amazing and hopefully more than one will be built, but there's simply no way to tell. Take care and hope to see you out soon!
Thanks for the comments and there is some truth to your thoughts. Ultimately we were driven by the look / style of the boat and the reliability and redundancy underpinning that. There are other boats also very capable or perhaps more. Marlow, Nordhavn etc all respectable brands. Lastly, we love our mid ship master and more and more are being asked for in Flemings. Hope you like the next video!
