    When i was a kid in Vermont i was in a foster home where my faster father worked with cattle. I saw how these cows where treated. I was really sad for them. I am a sensitive and i can feel peoples presents when i can't even see them. I felt theses cows presents and looked into there eyes and i saw there souls. I prayed and prayed and cried for GOD to find someone to help these cows in a more humane way. I understand that we are not going to stop killing cows overnight but at least there is a better way to treat them. I just want to thank you for what you have come up with. I would like to be Mayor of Burlington Vermont and when i do i would like to invite you here for some discussions on solving issues. @@cherylmiller2124 Thank you for you conformation. I am a slaughterman and have watched all Temple Grandins videos, which are very informative. I am also an organic farmer. I do not consider CO2 stunning/ killing to be humane compared to captive bolt or electric stunning. Then there is a legal requirement in the UK that should protect us from un-stunned meat like kosher and halal. It states," any animal destined for human consumption must be pre-stunned prior to slaughter" The exemption given to muslims and jews to slaughter without pre-stunning in 1932, was on the proviso that the meat from these non stun slaughter practices was for their consumption only. Due however to the fact that the jewish community only eating the front end of any animal they kill, all the rear ends of prime beef, lamb and chicken are sold straight on to the national meat market illegally and I am sick of the abuse of my fellow indigenous people of this once great island.

      @cherylmiller2124 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dear Tony - I really appreciate your comments. Captive bolt and electrical stunning both induce instantaneous unconsciousness. I have observed many pigs reacting to CO2. Some pigs react with vigorous struggling and escape attempts and in others, the induction, is relatively peaceful. The differences are probably due to genetics. Recently I was shown a video from Switzerland of pigs in a CO2 machine and the reactions were mild. A recent Australian study showed that the percentage of pigs that had a bad reaction ranged from under 1% at one abattoir and up to 42% at another. This difference is likely due to genetics. In the pork industry, abattoirs are often vertically integrated with the pig farms so that different slaughter plants would have different genetics. REFERENCE: Jongman, E.C. et al. (2020) Pre-slaughter factors linked to variation in responses to carbon dioxide gas stunning in pig abattoirs, Animal 2020, 100134. From Temple Grandin

      @@cherylmiller2124 Thank you for taking the time to reply to my comment, I understand your statement on genetics as I used to rear organic pigs bought from stock that was listed as not having the stress gene. Just to further comment on kosher slaughter, the jewish people and slaughtermen, do not understand the fact that the severing of the carotid artery will not bring instant unconsciousness as claimed, because the brain is fed also by the vertibral arteries on either side of the spinal column which join up below the brain to create the basilar artery. I remember in a video, you did on this particular subject, that you mentioned that the position of the cut was not in the correct place. To finish I have attached a video which in my opinion is a perfect example of humane stunning with the benefit of heart stop imediately after the stun.

    Why use CO2? Use CO or Nitrogen.

    • @odesangel
      @odesangel ปีที่แล้ว

      CO2 is heavier than air, so it's easier to contain using gravity. This allows for an open chamber into which a continuous conveyor of pigs can be lowered. CO or nitrogen are lighter than air and would need a sealed chamber, which would be more costly and process much fewer pigs at a time. Also, producing nitrogen at scale for this purpose would be costly as well. Might as well do electric stunning.

    I don't understand, Temple. Why won't you mention that a lot of the pigs going down under CO2 scream to the top of their lungs to the highest pitch anyone will ever experience hearing? Why are you saying that they simply might kick and throw a fit to escape the gondola? Why are you understating the extent of distress and discomfort some of these animals may experience during CO2 stunning? The people of the internet age have seen way too many videos and footages of this process around the world for you to brush the gravity of potential cruelty associated with CO2 stunning under the rug like that.

    • @cherylmiller2124
      @cherylmiller2124 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dear Miss Lee - There are definite welfare concerns with CO2. I have observed that there are genetic differences on how pigs react to CO2. Some pigs have a very bad reaction and others are calm. The industry has avoided looking at this problem. I had a study set up to determine if pig breeding could be used to reduce bad reactions. One big company cancelled my study and others refused to participate because they do not want to look inside the box. Sincerely, Temple Grandin
