Odd question but would there be a chance of me playing the pipe organ you guys have there? I’m currently up in Michigan for summer with my father and I’ve played the organs at two of the Catholic Churches here in my town. But when I come back to St. Augustine I’d love to maybe try out the organ you guys have there? I’ve wanted to ask before but I decided not to, I’ve been playing for a while after switching from piano. I go to the highschool so

Great Homily! Thank you for the blessings and for your commitment to our Lord.❤❤
Thank you Fr Ignatius! Thank you Deacon Jim! Happy Anniversary! God bless you all! 🙏🌹🕊
Really enjoyed this Mass today, and especially the Gospel reading, and so have to comment! 🙂 "Behold, this child is destined for the fall and rise of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be contradicted (and you yourself a sword will pierce) so that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed" (Luke 2:34-35). Today’s Gospel reading from Luke is a poignant reminder that Jesus is “the purveyor of Covenant” in the Gospel tradition. In ancient Israel, the principal role of the prophet was to call into question “matters at hand” under the light of covenant. Thus, the prophet shines covenant light on covenant infidelity, calls it out (indictment/judgment), and then announces sanctions (punishment) - a pattern easily traced throughout the prophetic tradition of the Old Testament. Such indictment was typically rejected by those at whom it was aimed. An easy example of this is the story of how the 8th-century prophet Amos was kicked out of the sanctuary at Bethel by the priest Amaziah (Amos 7:10-13) after the prophet utters some poetry describing sanctions coming upon Israel for covenant infidelity (Amos 7:1-9). “Get out!... Flee!... never again prophesy at Bethel, for it is the king’s sanctuary, and it is a temple of the kingdom” (Amos 7:12-13). The prophetic utterance of Simeon (Luke 2:29-32) - one favored by God and so, consoled by the announcement of the coming One - recalls Isaiah’s prophecy of the Servant of the Lord (Isa 42:6; 46:13; 49:6). As it shakes down in Luke’s narrative, Jesus is the coming Servant who will, like a stone of stumbling (Isa 8:14-15), cause many to fall and to rise, and so, like the prophets of old (and Amos!) be “opposed.” Why? Because Jesus is the coming one who - in word and deed - shows Israel how to live a life of covenant fidelity (see Luke 10:27 and compare with Exodus 20:1-11, 12-17), that is, how to construe life and living in a way that provides for orphans, widows, strangers, immigrants, the poor, the outcasts (formulaic throughout the prophetic tradition), which is the kind of living that makes Israel’s worship acceptable to Yahweh (compare Amos 5:21-24). So, Simeon’s prophecy and blessing in today’s Gospel reading is a summary of Luke’s gospel. Jesus’ life - words and deeds - not only shows us how to live life in covenant fidelity but also prepares us for the likely rejection of such covenant fidelity by those who benefit the most from the status quo. Pax!
