    Was the original location of the thermometer selected to give a reading of the temperature of the stone? Just wondering if it was an air temp or cook surface temp measurement they wanted to show you.

    • @barbecuebuild2642
      @barbecuebuild2642 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'm not sure but either is not ideal. The most accurate way is to use an infrared gun to see the temp of the stone. In the lower location, it was about 50 or 60 degrees lower than the stone. In the upper location, it is about 50 or 60 degrees higher than the stone, which is a close temp for the top of the oven.

    I bought a used one that was manufactured in 2015. The bowl's interior wasn't that dirty but the nuts and washers are rusted. The gas burner tube was caked on with grease and ash but I managed to clean them off with heavy duty degreaser. The front-end of the burner tube facing the center of the kettle looks rusty even with a lot of scrubbing. I am not sure if that is baked on grease. Will try Easy Off oven cleaner. If that doesn't work, I will soak it in Evapo Rust. Where do you get stainless-steel bolts, washers and nuts to replace the original ones? Thanks!

    I use my ryobi leaf blower a lot of the time to speed up the chimney. I just blow it through the holes on the sides. It definitely speeds it up considerably. I can get a whole chimney lit in about 4 or 5 minutes. The problem is... or at least its my perception anyway..is that the coals at the bottom are just about depleted to ash by the time I am ready to dump it in the kettle. So I feel like it wastes about 15% or so of the fuel, as opposed to just lighting the chimney, doing some other prep, and coming back in 15 minutes. Do you notice with this prototype that the level of charcoal left in the chimney after the top is ashed over, is way lower than if you do nothing to speed it up?

    • @barbecuebuild2642
      @barbecuebuild2642 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, I didn't lose any volume. I think because mine is not as powerful as a blower. All though it takes a little longer I think I hit the sweet spot between fuel loss and time.
