Welcome to @iheartpinyin, where the world of Mandarin Chinese unfolds through the magic of storytelling and comprehensible input, all guided through pinyin!
Are you tired of tedious grammar explanations and rote memorization? This is how we are taught in school, and it's no wonder that many of us study for years and can barely communicate.
Natural language acquisition happens by listening, especially to stories. Children relate stories to their own experiences. This personal connection deepens their understanding and makes language learning more meaningful. Adults can do this too!
汉字 Hànzì (characters) is a very big barrier to overcome for new language learners. Pinyin is a great remedy for this, but there's a real lack of resources to practice with. That’s where we come in!
Let the magical method of Teaching Proficiency Through Reading and Storytelling (TPRS) with the aid of Pinyin guide your learning journey at the comfortable pace of Comprehensible Input. Subscribe now!

We believe that language comes alive through stories, be it fiction or non-fiction. Having bite sized content relevant to subjects you enjoy is the best way to learn. Children don't learn language by rote memorization or grammar, they learn it by listening to comprehensible ideas, often through stories. However, teens and adults at the beginner level don't necessarily want to consume materials made for infants. We create resources for you to enjoy that are aligned to the official Mandarin Chinese HSK examination materials.

Our Mission
To promote natural language acquisition of Mandarin Chinese through the method of (TPRS) Teaching Proficiency Through Reading and Storytelling, using the natural pacing of Comprehensible Input.
In other words:
Learn Mandarin by reading and listening in a fun and natural way!
Notes on our Pīnyīn usage:
Proper use of Pīnyīn is still a debatable in many ways, but we are generally using the structure set forth by Zhou Youguang, the creator of Pīnyīn, in his book The Historical Evolution of Chinese Languages and Scripts.
One thing to remember, Pīnyīn is primarily used as a phonetic representation system for Mandarin Chinese (Pǔtōnghuà).
- Since Chinese characters do not use capitalization, some omit the use of capitalization rules when using Pīnyīn. Additionally, some vary their usage based on the original guidelines, and also when representing Western literature.
- Spacing words for Pīnyīn can be complicated. Many just put a single space after each character to represent a 1:1 phonetic expression, which is especially helpful when learning to write Chinese characters. However, grouping can help improve pronunciation and speaking flow, which is our focus.
- In the end, our goal is to help learners speak and listen to Mandarin Chinese by creating new and interesting content, not write or read Pīnyīn. We hope our materials aid you on your learning journey!
