    I applaud Dan Issel's right to call a fan (Bobbie Bowman) or anyone he wants - "a Mexican piece of shit" because - if he says it - it's probably correct. I am a fan of Dan Issel's, not some drunken loser of a fan. Go Dan go!

      Well the fact that he insulted his race by calling him a Mexican was considered to be a slur, and was why the thing blew up, and proved to be Issel's undoing in the end.

      No, Issel called him a Mexican POS. Who knows- maybe the fan was a POS? You can’t pour a beer on somebody, but Issel was the head coach. You have to control your emotions. Go have a beer w the guy & move on. The Nuggets did suck then, though.

      It was the words "Mexican" (which was bleeped as it was used as a racial slur towards the fan's ethnicity), along with "shit" at the end of the sentence that were censored to be exact.

      Yeah, and it was mainly them bleeping out the word "Mexican" (since it was used as a racial slur towards the fan's ethnicity) that confused everyone for days about what exactly Issel said when he spouted off at that fan who insulted him first.

      @@stever1791 Issel is definitely a good man I'm sure, which I'll never dare say otherwise. He was a Denver icon for many years, which nothing can ever take away. He made one bad mistake, which he should also never forever be crucified for. That being even if we all said things we shouldn't have in the heat of the moment, and immediately regretted like he clearly did shortly thereafter.

      @@stever1791 And I do 100% guarantee that this incident wouldn't have come even close to being the debacle it was for him, and his career, had if the fan not had been a minority of any kind (though am sure that Issel wouldn't have said anything like that to an African American, since his players, and part of his coaching staff were obviously a good part of that race), and/or if he just simply didn't mention the fan's ethnicity when he went off on him for that matter either. That of which was what caused the blowup over what he said much more than anything when he got into it with him at the moment.

      Yeah, but he still shouldn't have used that ethnic slur, especially for his sake though. The whole thing wouldn't have blown up the way it did if the fan was either white, or if Issel simply didn't refer to him as what his race was when he fought back and yelled at him.

    I remember the fan saying afterwards that he shouldn't get fired for the slur. He said Issel should get fired for what he's done to the team. The Nuggets were a joke then.
