The Church and Ai, Part 2 with Christopher Teeter | The Good Citizen Podcast #344
Good Citizen Podcast Episode #344 The Church and Artificial Intelligence, Part 2: Opportunities with Christopher Teeter
Artificial Intelligence is quickly changing how we we work, create, lead, and even govern. What does this mean for church leaders and other committed Christians? Where is this technology headed, and what are the challenges and opportunities for the church? In part 1 of this 2-episode discussion with Christopher Teeter (a technology futurist), we walked through current trends and challenges concerning AI. And, in this episode, we discuss opportunities created by this technology (part 2).
Key Takeaways:
- Where this technology is headed and why church leaders and other committed Christians should care about it.
- A discussion about Bible translation opportunities and an example of a church using AI to live translate its services into numerous languages.
- How AI can assist in sermon prep and spiritual formation.
- The future of education, as assisted by tools like Khan Academy.
- A discussion about digital twinning and using AI to process grief. Are there limits to this?
- How AI can be used for the purpose of evangelism.
- How Christians can influence the AI revolution for good by advocating for human dignity, preventing model poisoning, and responding to the crisis of meaning.

    Not believing in a God is due to the activation of distinct higher-order brain networks. The results demonstrated that religious believers are more likely to use more intuitive and heuristic reasoning and that religious non-believers are more likely to use more deliberative and analytic reasoning. For example, non-believers are more likely to process sensory information, such as something they see, in a more deliberative manner that involves higher cortical areas, called top-down processing, involved in reasoning. In contrast, religious believers are more likely to interpret visual information in a more emotional or intuitive manner, called bottom-up processing, that involves more ancient brain systems. Religious believers share this bottom-up processing bias with people who believe in the supernatural or paranormal activity, such as telekinesis or clairvoyance.

    Great interview! I’ve used Wayne Grudem’s book as a reference for creating a course for churches called “Christian Citizenship- A Biblical View Of Politics”. His outline points on God’s Purpose for the United States (starting at 43:13 ) is powerful evidence to encourage those of us who believe we are called to be Ambassadors for the Kingdom on earth. Flawed as she is, no other nation has been a conduit of God’s blessing to the world. And that has been accomplished through the Church influencing government. If one is not moved by Wayne’s own emotion as he reflects upon the sacrifices of those who gave us this country, it shows a lack of education and gratitude. Thank you both!

    Also when you are just saying that this is not right or a sin just cause God said it and there is no sensible logic behind it then there no scope for a person to argue farther and simply say it doesn't make sense.

    And also stop reducing gay couples relationship to only sex temptation and lust. Obviously these are there but there is much more to a relationship like any other heterosexual relationship.

  • @ayanmajumder4009
    @ayanmajumder4009 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    So ultimately if you have opposite sex attraction it's holy if it's monogamous but it's not holy if it's monogamous and same sex attraction ,on the top of that it's a sin. ... It's discrimination.... If a man lusts over his wife is not a sin but if a gay in a monogamous relationship and lust over his partner it's sin... So lust is sin unless you're in a monogamous opposite sex relationship.... It doesn't make sense if lust is sin then it should be for everyone... And if you say because heterosexual couple can reproduce it is justified then ban condoms cause anything outside procreative sex would be sinful that's lust... But no as long as it's a heterosexual couple sex is enhancing their relationship , it's holy, it's more than lust but if it's a homosexual couple it's only lust nothing more to it.... And all these declared by god and guess what god did not gave supporting statement it's like I'm god i said so and you have to follow it cause I'm god.... I personally do not want to follow this kind of god who will dictate me what to do rather that give me solid reason why i should do it.... I cannot believe in a narrow minded god. And we all know the reality of heterosexual marriage also... Divorce is a reality and that proves that what you think as a holy sexuality (1 man 1woman) collapse horribly sometime ❤🙏🏻.

    Even as a pastor, I grow weary with Christians looking for the Lord Jesus Christ equivalency in a political candidate. To me, it is the most ludicrous thing I’ve ever known as a Christian. Point being, when it comes to "human" candidates, I always see the choice as the lesser of two evils between said candidates. The vast majority of earthly candidates have violated some ethic, some law, some moral principle in their lives. Secondly, I was US Army soldier for near 30 years, 10 of it as a basic infantrymen. My allegiance to our US Constitution is secondary to the Bible. But, that does not lay aside my commitment, even though Retired, to protect our constitution "from all enemies foreign and domestic." We certainly have our domestic enemies and those enemies are in our White House and in our Congress. I am very passionate about what’s taking place in these United States against those who are attacking our God-given principles. Thirdly, there are sources, valid sources, that say that the adultery never occurred between Donald Trump and stormy Daniels . We know that people will purposely go out of the way to take advantage of Public figures; characters like a Stormy Daniels are too easy to predict such persons would seek to take advantage of a leader like President Donald Trump here in America.

      I know there are some efforts to allow for more expungements or to not treat low-level, non-violent felonies so harshly in employment and public service contexts. I simply set out the legal standards as I understand them, and this is a fair point.

    I appreciate this discussion. I agree with the Jethro narrative for leadership. However does it apply to unbelievers? Also, the conviction may not change the equation in some people's minds but shouldn't it? If we are considering a Christian perspective we should question if there's genuine repentance. Where's the evidence of true spiritual transformation in said person?

    • @TheGoodCitizenProject
      @TheGoodCitizenProject 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for your thoughtful comment here. Concerning Jethro's voting guide, I view it as a helpful but not exhaustive guide that can assist Christians in choosing elected officials. As the context is Jethro (not a Jew or part of the covenant nation of Israel) setting out qualifications for civi leadership, I do not see it as limited in application to candidates that are believers. I, of course, support the Constitutional prohibition on a religious test for office. Jethro's Voting Guide (the passage in Exodus) is for Christians as they analyze who they will vote for. I discuss how this works out in our increasingly plural culture in this post: www.goodcitizen.us/jethros-voting-guide-ancient-wisdom-for-a-key-decision/. My main point here is that I don't see the conviction as substantively changing the situation. I have not seen Trump repent or change his behavior concerning sexual integrity, and I noted that his lack of character. A conviction on a novel and questionable legal theory just does not, in my opinion, substantively change the moral equation here.

    I don't know about you, but I've always thought that sensuality, love and affection between men was completely natural and normal for some men. Following a recent revelation, I'm absolutely sure that Jesus too was gay - the one that Jesus loved in the garden of Gethsemane and the young man running away naked and all that. The absolute bottom line for my gay and bisexual readers has to be that you have complete freedom of thought and freedom of conscience to make up your own mind on these issues and so don't be led astray by homophobic priests, clergy, ministers, pastors, imams, rabbis and all the rest of it! Your relationship with God and the Divine is yours alone and so take it and enjoy it and develop it in your own way and leave the religious homophobes to stew in their own juice! They're not spiritual people anyway and they don't want to grow so just walk away with your spirit and your dignity intact and leave them exactly where they are!

      Respectfully, we recognize that God has given all of us freedom to choose our own way in life. But He has not given us freedom to change His Word. This episode is simply an analysis of what Scripture states about this issue. Some people do not believe in God, and some may choose to ignore Scripture's statements, but we endeavor to understand Scripture and to view God and especially Jesus as He has revealed Himself in the Bible. Thanks for your comment.

    As a man that dwells with homosexuality and my Christian beliefs, I can clearly see nowadays that homosexuality, or any sort of fornication, is definitely not part of the divine design for humanity. God is perfect on his plans for us, we are the ones rejecting nature, and going after lust. We live at a time where the world is constantly telling us to be whatever we want to be, a world that celebrate lust, and the focus on "self", forgetting what God created us to be. Nowadays I decide to live according to the plans of God for me, to be defined by my spirituality, not my sexuality. Im not here to please myself and my flesh, but my creator. And I believe that by doing so, Im doing what I'm meant to do.

    Would it be better to never be born or burn eternally in hell? Hell is the most horrific thing that could ever happen to a soul and if real the most moral thing a person could ever do is keep somone from hell in the first place. Christian support of forced birth shows the true hypocrisy of the Christian cult and lack of empathy. For the vast majority of human beings...billions upon billions according to Christianity...eternally burning and suffering in hell will be their fate! In fact if hell is real...the majority of human beings should curse their mothers who were selfish enough to risk extreme eternal suffering for them! Abortion is the most humane thing a mother could ever do...the risk of eternal torture far outweighs any life even eternal life. So yes while I may believe hell isn't real the vast majority of Christians do and that is what I am trying to understand!! Why force birth? Why place more human beings on the path of eternal torture? There are 2.3 billion Christians on the planet out of 8 billion people so forcing birth and thus eventual hell upon the majority of those born is something I can't really comprehend if Christians do really believe in hell???!!!! Christians have the most dangerous minds because no rational human being could ever embrace this monsterous dichotomy! How insane is a belief that makes human extinction the best option for the majority of humanity? What about this truth?

It made me understand a little deeper why God calls all types of people and creates Christians with different backgrounds. That was what Heather needed. I grew up in a conservative church that I know would not have been as understanding as the church that Heather attended but God saw that was what I needed. Neither is the wrong church. Actually, if you go back to the first SOCE ban (for minors) in California in 2012, it was never about abusive forms of therapy, but always about therapy in general to change same-sex attractions and/or behavior and identity (self-concept). The way the bans have broadened over time (pretty much soon after the first one) was to include banning efforts to change transgender identity.

      The conversion therapy itself is cruel, there is no discussion about this.

      @@avavienneceleste965 no, there's plenty to discuss. A rational society understands this.

      @@PsychoBible how about a sensitive society? Rationality in matters of affection and love is highly overrated. Having worked with individuals that have undergone this kind of therapy in their church families, I have seen first hand how this put their emotional as well as physical life at risk. One in three Canadians that endured this treatment actually committed suicide. How can this be a good thing ? It is nobodies business if two people love each other. If they both are mature enough to consent to consummate this union, it is NOBODY’s business. And never was. Just look at king David and Joshua.

    Looks like I am the second viewer.... Praying for our Nation. Praying for our Pastors and Biblical Counselors as they minister God's Word and God's will concerning Christ-honoring sexual behavior.

    Good thoughts. Epistemology is important to the pagan world.

    Lead them with the problems of today and tomorrow. We don't like social media, we just don't have any other real option. Everyone kind of knows how much better life could be without soul crushing internet reliance, and most would've liked to live in a time without it. If you want to learn how to engage Gen Z, you should just ask us instead of older folk.
