How to connect a Mitsubishi PLC to an SQL Database
In this tutorial video we're setting up a connection between a Mitsubishi R04CPU PLC, a Microsoft Access database and Microsoft SQL Server database.
To make the connection we're using the SQL4automation Connector, which you can download from our website.
The SQL4automation Connector is a software solution for the industrial usage. It connects PLC and robotic controls directly with SQL databases. You can test it completely free of cost, by activating a test license which runs for 2 hours. After that you can reactivate the license for another 2 hours.

Hi. I want to connect about 50 PLCs with MSQL. Read and write to database. So, is this system stability? Because i use for industrial.
Hi! We haven't tested this many links with Mitsubishi on one connector, but it should work. You would need at least 50 links. It probably depends a lot on how much data you need to send and receive. If you do get performance problems you could always distribute the links on multiple connectors on different devices. The connections are very stable if configured correctly.
@@sql4automation584 Thanks for your information. I took your sample to load the PLC FX5UC-32MT. But it shows an error so it can't be loaded. Lots of errors in that sample program. Do you have any way to correct those errors? GXW3 ver 1.105K.

@@sql4automation584 Dear Sir. I tried again with the PLC having new firmware and queried with SQL. When executing the commands for the first time, everything went smoothly. But when I tried to execute the command again, an issue occurred. SA4cofig: Test of connection plc failed. GXW3: error code H3401. Cause: Data that cannot be converted was input in an applied instruction. I have contacted you via email, please respond.

Yes you need to write a program in the PLC which continuously reads out / "SELECT"s values from the database. So when the value in the database changes, the PLC will read that new value. If you're using Siemens you'll find examples on how to do that in our example project. It comes included with the SQL4automation download on our website.
I checked out grafana today. Is it not possible to add data anymore by choosing the data visually? It seems I have to type queries in the current version.

Hi, yes if you want to connect a PLC to the connector you would need the IP of the interface which is in the same network as the PLC. Maybe you could check your network adapter settings. Please write us at info@inasoft.ch if you need more help. :)

Chris, THANK YOU so much for this video. It is EXACTLY what I was looking for building a dashboard for IoT sensors and Solar System switches and data feeds I have in my home. In your video around 20:13 you mention response time reading from a MySQL database and upgrading to Prometheus. If you still plan to do that video, have you got an idea when you will be doing that, and if not, would you mind perhaps providing a very high-level list of pointers I should follow to do that? I can then use that list of pointers and search further on google/youtube for more detail. Thanks again for this very good video
Hi! Thank you for the nice words! :) I'm afraid we are currently not doing more tutorials and I also haven't really set up an example like in this video with a time-series database. So I don't know that much about it. Personally I would maybe check out "home assistant" in your case. I use it myself and it already handles a lot of the things you would probably need to do. You should also find many other people who extended it using grafana when you search for something like "home assistant solar dashboard". Other than that some relevant terms might be: InfluxDB, TimescaleDB, Time-series database, Data retention, Grafana, Solar, Dashboard, Sensor data. I hope that helps a bit, even if it's probably not what you were hoping for.

Can the NUC be bypassed? Or is it necessary for the connection to work?
Hi Mihai, you don't need the NUC. I just used it as an example in this video. You do need however some place (Linux or Windows) to install the S4A connector. Sometimes you can install it directly on the same computer, where the database is running.

Hi, when using our software, the S4A Connector and S4A Config Tool are enough. The S4A Query Tool and S4A Debugger are just usefool tools when developing the application.
